  1. Really? So you deny saying this:
  2. Who cares? The protest was already made. No-one said it was going to be an ongoing thing. The real question is, has there been a "rule" put in place, as you suggested? Will there be any action taken if someone decides to kneel in the future? I'll bet there won't.
  3. Not arbitrarily. They have to adhere to the CBA, which may or may not give the league the leeway to impose such rules. My guess is that any suspensions or fines imposed on players for kneeling during the anthem, or staying in the dressing room would be immediately challenged by the players' union, most likely successfully, unless there were provisions already in place in the CBA, prhibiting such protest. Goodell and several of the team owners have already come out against Trump on this matter, so one has to wonder how much effort the league will expend in imposing a "rule" that doesn't exist. BTW: NFL players are employed by their respective teams, not by the NFL, so your analogy doesn't really apply.
  4. Jays picked a fine time to start playing solid baseball. Just after they were assured of a sub-.500 season... Silver lining: If the Jays had still been in contention at the deadline, they wouldn't have traded Liriano and we wouldn't have Teoscar. You never judge a player on his September call-up play, but right now, that trade looks like an absolute steal.
  5. Jeff Blair wrote a good article about this: http://www.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/nfl-perfect-easy-target-donald-trump/ In a nutshell, it's Trump being Trump and pandering to the lowbrows who show up to his rallies and chant "Build that Wall!"....
  6. Agree on 'Bama. Any day they lose is a good day, although they had an easy time of it against Vandy on Saturday. Meanwhile, my Sooners were given a run for their money against Baylor in WACO, but hung on for the win. Home date coming up against Iowa State and then the RRR against the Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl.
  7. It was. Bottom line though, the Texans' defense didn't get the job done. The D line looked tired on the winning drive. At a time when you know Brady is throwing and you can just pin your ears back, they couldn't generate much pressure at all. The fumble came on a blitz. It was just unfortunate for Houston that the ball bounced to the wrong guy.
  8. Granted, I only saw one replay, but I'd have to disagree with that assessment....
  9. I only caught the end on NFL Gameday. Can someone explain why that wasn't a TD? Also, as much as dislike the Pats, that was an impressive drive. The TD throw was especially impressive, as Brady got hit as he threw. he important thing is, the Bills knocked of the Broncos and the Phish lost....
  10. Sorry? Who is making such a demand? As far as the election goes, I'm glad to see Merkel re-elected. The world needs intelligent leaders who don't say or do the first stupid thing that pops into their head....
  11. Can't agree with this. The Jays have really missed Travis since he went down and a healthy Sanchez. That being said, the real issue lies with an aging roster with diminishing skills and nothing done to address the lack of speed and poor outfield defense.
  12. I think that will be today. I fully expect a long ovation on his final AB. (Hopefully he does something Bautista-esque with it)
  13. Yep. It took him a couple of matches to round into form, but he's looking like a great pick up. Really happy with the way Tchani has fit in as well. Nice to get the full three points last night, but can I say: Parker? WTF? I guess he kind of made up for it with the block late in the game, but that was brutal. Much better performance from Techera last night as well. I was starting to worry about him. DeJong is looking good too. I think the competition between him and Harvey can only be good for the team as a whole. Even though they're sitting atop the table, the 'Caps really need to take care of business against the slumping Sounders. Both Portland and Sporting have what look to be easy match-ups today, home to Orlando City and LA Galaxy respectively. KC actually have a game in hand on Vancouver. (although the 'Caps have a game in hand over the Timbers and the Sounders, who have the same point total as Sporting with 44) It looks like next Satuday's visit to Kansas might just decide who finishes in first place in the West, although with our Cascadia rivals only four points back and RSL still within striking distance, the 'Caps could conceivably finish well down the table, especially with 4 or their 5 remaining matches away from BC Place.
  14. This is very cool: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2734062-the-unforgettable-inspirational-cfb-gameday-inside-iowas-childrens-hospital?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial Props to the Iowa football program and it's fans....
  15. BTW: I strongly recommend that everyone delve a little deeper into the Forbes "article" linked to by a certain member of Team Denial. Click on the author's Bio for some insight into his position....
  16. This is what really makes me shake my head about CC deniers: The idea that professional scientists, many of whom have spent decades to acquire their expertise, would risk everything to promote a false narrative, for the dubious benefit of keeping their funding. In a different thread, I posted statements from both NOAA and NASA that stated unequivocally, that Climate Change is real and that anthropogenic forces have accelerated both it's pace and it's severity. The positions of both of those organizations was written off by a certain CC denier who frequents these boards, because they receive their funding from the government. Of course, now that Orange is the new Black, their sudden reversal of position is strangely absent.... You know, Stephen Hawking, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Michio Kaku....the "CC crowd"....
  17. So, from Harvey to Maria in the space of a few weeks....are people still denying Climate Change? Gotta hand it to the Chinese....they sure know how to sell a hoax....
  18. Big test coming up on Saturday. 'Caps host Columbus, who are sitting in 4th place in the East. The Crew don't have a good away record, so this is definitely a winnable match for Vancity. Meanwhile, both Portland and Seattle are traveling, (RSL and Dallas respectively) so this is a chance for the 'Caps to put a bit of distance between themselves and their closest rivals. After this weekend, the closest rival could very well be Sporting KC. Sporting, who have not lost at home this season, host New England, who have not won on the road this season. Like the Whitecaps, Sporting have games in hand over the bulk of the Western clubs, although the Red Bulls will be in KC next Wednesday to account for one of those.
  19. Pretty impressive showing with a lot of second stringers in the lineup tonight. Teibert and Nerwinski were solid at the back and even before he scored the third goal, I thought this was the best performance I'd ever seen from Brek Shea.
  20. I watched that inning and was just shaking my head.... Bats works the count to 3-1 and then swings at a high inside pitch. He had zero chance of doing anything with that ball, but wanted to be the man instead of just taking his base and passing the baton to Kendrys. Morales then proceeds to strike out in an AB where not a single pitch was in the strike zone.... Jose's struggles aren't really all that surprising. We knew his skills were diminishing and that his ego wouldn't let him admit it. The one thing he always had is a great eye, but it seems like he's swinging at far too many bad pitches these days. Completely out of character for the player we've come to know. Morales, OTOH, seems to be surprised every time an opposing pitcher throws a breaking ball, which is odd, because it happens about 90% of the time. For such a veteran hitter, I'm baffled at why he doesn't just forget about the fastball and sit on a breaking ball that's up enough in the zone for him to do some damage with.
  21. It's an automatic penalty now... ...unless you hit Cam Newton...
  22. Yep. Bears-Falcons went down to the wire as well. (With the Bears finishing like the Bears, not da Bears) Anyone else catch Chuck Pagano giving credit to the 49ers after getting roasted by the Rams?
