  1. I have to confess that I don't pay particularly close attention to Caps' corners, but do they usually bring Waston up for them? It seems to me that having more size in the box would go a long ways towards improving those set pieces. They could always drop someone with some wheels like Tiebert back to cover.... Barring that, what's Peter Crouch doing these days?
  2. Tough one to lose last night, especially after Dickey had such a strong start. Hopefully last night's performance by the bullpen lefties was an anomaly. Castro looks great, but you need a southpaw who can get hitters out to be successful in this league.
  3. Zaun made a good point about that. Even though you'd ideally like to have a lefty-righty balance throughout the lineup, it isn't as big a deal having a primarily right-handed lineup. Righties are used to hitting right handed pitchers. It's not a situation like when the Jays had guys like Plesac, specifically to bring in to face tough lefties. I'd be a lot more concerned if the Jays had a predominantly lefty lineup like team Canada...
  4. Didn't get to see the game, but after watching some highlights, Edwin's back looked pretty good on that gopher ball. Taking the parrot for a walk in game 1 of the season... Also loved seeing Travis get the silent treatment after his dinger... I have to say, I was a bit surprised at Hutch getting the opening day start, but apparently he owned both the Yanks and the O's last season and this means he'll pitch in both series. Props to Gibby for making the move.
  5. Yeah. That play in the box when he controlled the ball in the air for three touches shows the skill level he has.
  6. I was somewhat surprised to see near the end of the match, a graphic that showed possession for the 'Caps at less than 60%. It certainly looked to me as though the absolutely dominated time of possession. This would be borne out by the shots (18-6 Vancouver) and shots on target, which were 9-1. The Whitecaps were pulling out wins up to this point, but they were clearly the better side last night and could easily have scored a couple more.
  7. The funny thing is, I don't remember clutch being all that "anti-Burrows". I'd have to go back and look at the OP, but to the best of my memory, it was more a case of "Do we really need this guy? I don't see what he adds to the lineup"... Of course, he was proven dead wrong on that, but at the time, it was a fairly legitimate question. Burrows had been up and down and had been "called into the office" for a discussion with the coaching staff and management, where they explained to him what he needed to do, if he wanted to remain with the big club. I see far worse displays of "hate" directed at current Canucks (Kassian, Bieksa, etc.) than what clutch said about Burr.
  8. Gotta agree with Ron on this one. Fact is, most refs are at the very least acquainted and the Francophone angle is overblown, IMO. Quebec is a pretty big province....
  9. I still haven't seen an angle that shows Bieksa contacting the head of Stalberg. (Could those two still have a running feud from VS' Chicago days?) Burrows will almost certainly be suspended. The Canucks last night were embarrassing. Undisciplined penalties all over the place. I still don't believe Juice contacted Stalberg's head, but it was unnecessary and it was dumb. He put the zebra in a position to make a call and he did. The hit by Burrows, Bieksa chirping Gaustad, Kenins' antics at the end of the second...just so many dumb penalties... I'm glad they won, but they probably won't win many others if they continue to be that undisciplined.
  10. Empty netter? Hank must be going, WTF???!!!
  11. So is Osuna. And you're correct. The way these guys have been throwing in the spring definitely gives cause for optimism. However, we have to bear in mind how young they are. We have to hope they can continue to be effective over the entire 162 game season. Otherwise, AA might have to try and fix things on the fly, something he hasn't been great at so far, IMHO.
  12. I'd agree. I would expect a goal scored on a penalty shot to be treated like a power play goal.
  13. Looks like it might be Brandon Reid...
  14. It says Josh Green at the bottom of the jpeg, so I'll go with Josh Green.
  15. I think I have it figured out. Dana Murzyn was a Canuck who won the Cup later that year with the Flames....
  16. Well, Tanti was on the Penguins team as well...
  17. I guess another possibility would be Barry Pederson. He won with the Pens, IIRC.
  18. I think Larry Melnyk won with the Oilers, but that was before '89. Is that what you mean?
  19. I assumed that he meant after the '89 season. Besides, I don't think Bridgman was with the Flyers when they won the Cup.
  20. Was it Lidster in '94 with the Rags?
  21. Look at the time stamp. Obviously they go alphabetically. You're just lucky I don't live in Abbotsford. (Actually, so am I, I guess.... )
  22. He isn`t, (yet) but his injury leaves a huge hole in the starting rotation. One the Jays have neither the time, nor the money to address...
  23. I agree that they didn't have it all that easy in the regular season, but we both know that loss to the Bills should have come with an asterisk. (and I'm a Bills fan)
