  1. FWIW, Kvitova and Safarova (the top two Czech players) aren't on the roster either. However, the Czechs are a much superior squad considering the players left available to both countries.
  2. I don't blame Genie for losing to someone like Maria or Serena, but that loss to Kvitova was certainly a huge opportunity squandered.
  3. At this point in her career, for Genie to beat a top flight player like Sharapova or Serena, she has to be at her very best and hope that her opponent isn't. The exact opposite happened last night.
  4. Hard to say. Maybe a bit of both. What was apparent is that the Jays wanted Duquette and Duquette wanted the Jays, but the O's were just asking for too much. What seems clear to me is that Beeston will be gone after this season, one way or another. Duquette will stay in Baltimore, which will obviously be awkward, since it's clear that he wanted to leave. (Kind of like the John Farrell situation) T.O. will continue to search for PB's replacement, although I suppose it's not out of the realm of possibility that the situation with the Orioles becomes untenable enough that negotiations with the Jays are reopened.
  5. Not that I care about deflate gate, but I find it interesting that Pats fans would try and discredit Bill Nye, because "he's a Seahawks fan", but an opinion from a guy at MIT is all good. You know what the "M" in MIT stands for, right?
  6. Apparently, the Jays' pursuit of Baltimore's Dan Duquette (to replace Paul Beeston) is over. The O's were reportedly asking for one of Toronto's top young prospect in compensation, which was a non-starter for the Jays. The search continues...
  7. Nice win for Milos. The quarters are going to be tough for Canada. Milos gets Joker and Genie has to take on Sharapova. Anything can happen, but it's not looking too good....
  8. @Mak: Even Pats fans gotta admit that one was pretty funny....
  9. Semis? Shouldn't that be the quarters?
  10. I'm impressed that he did this so quickly.... Of course, I'll appeal.
  11. I cheer for the Bills, which naturally means that when Superbowl time comes around I have to find a new team to cheer for. Since the Pats are an AFC East rival, this year is easy... Go Hawks! Are you really surprised? This is Roger Goodell we're talking about. The guy does more waffling than IHOP.
  12. I watched the post match coverage a bit afterwards (didn't recognize them, except one looked a lot like Mary Jo) and they were talking about how Seppi was able to attack Fed's forehand with pace. Roger, usually able to step around those shots and hit them with pace, was a bit slow and ended up fighting them off a lot of the time. A case of a great player just starting to show his age and not having a great match (by his standards) and Seppi playing the match of his career. That's how upsets happen. I didn't think Genie played all that well last night. (despite the 6-0 2nd set) But luckily after she gutted it out the first set, Garcia basically fell apart. The positive thing for me is that good players find ways to win when they aren't at the top of their game and Genie looks like a good player on her way to being a great player.
  13. I think the Jays are doing their annual tour of the country. Maybe they can have one of them teach Travis how to slide....
  14. Meh. I think he's trying too hard to be the victim. Most people (even Pats haters like me) realize that deflate gate is nothing more than something for sports media to talk about in the 2 week football vaccum leading up to the SB. No-one with half a brain thinks that it had anything to do with the outcome.
  15. Yeah, that's a bit excessive. Slap him on the wrist and tell him he can't wear hoodies for all of next season... That'll learn 'im...
  16. I think it was because there were even less people watching than there are now. The decision to move it was ostensibly to give football fans something to watch on the Sunday between the Conference Championships and the Super Bowl, but I think it's also a case of nobody being interested after Super Bowl Sunday.
  17. Okay, WTF is with the courtside interviewers at the Aussie open? Give us a twirl? Last year it was "who would you like to date?" How about sticking to tennis questions, FFS. Buddha, I blame you.
  18. Some of us don't need another reason to hate the Pats. And I agree. Ball-gate is much ado about nothing.
  19. Stupid non-story. The way the Colts D was playing, Brady would have thumped them with a Nerf football...
  20. Who cares about "deflated" footballs. I fail to see how that's an advantage for the Pats and both teams were using them anyways... BTW: My favorite tweet (so far) about the Seahawks - Packers game: Ryan Fabro @RYANFABRO590 Follow This is ridiculous. Thank god I'm not a packers fan. Although I'm a leafs fan, so really, this is nothing 3:10 PM - 18 Jan 2015
  21. Disagree. Most football fans with any class whatsoever don't like to see teams running up the score. Not only that but it's just asking for a frustrated defender to take an unnecessary shot at one of your best players. The Pats got away with it, but it wasn't a smart move, IMHO. I'm going to assume that you understand the difference between a 2 score game and a 5 score game....
  22. It was a bizarre reaction. Almost like he was mesmerized by the throw. Maybe he lost it in the sun. (It was high enough )
  23. As I said earlier, Bostick is going to be stuck with the goat horns for this loss, but that brutal effort on the 2 pointer was far worse, IMHO.
  24. Yeah. At least the ones who stayed for the whole game...
