  1. I think we have to include Kuzmenko in that group now.... Management could have gotten an excellent return had they traded him at the TDL rather than signing him to an extension. Time will tell whether is was a smart move or not, but I think it has to mean he's included in that group with Petey and Hughes....
  2. Yeah, the coaching change is a bit of a head scratcher...especially when you consider how bad it made the franchise look... The only explanation I can think of is that they decided Tocchet was their guy and were afraid they'd lose him if they didn't pull the trigger right away. That being said, if you're correct and tanking hasn't entered into the equation, then I'd have to count myself among the ranks of people who believe this management group has completely botched things....
  3. I think Demko getting hurt (and being a shadow of his previous self before getting hurt) has a lot to do with that... My guess is they pivoted to tank mode once it became obvious this season is a write off. Personally, I think this is probably the ideal season to do so....
  4. I don't comment on these threads often, but this is the most boring time of year for sports, so here goes.... I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't think there's a chance in hell that the Canucks could trade Miller.....not without retaining a big chunk, or taking on a bad contract in return....If PA can pull it off, I'll be impressed. Second, I don't GAF who plays 2C if they somehow do manage to move him. All of this angst about "ruining player development" if they play on a crap team is hugely overblown, IMO. There are lots of examples over the years who managed to turn into good NHL players in spite of suffering through losing seasons. I saw someone mention that they believe the "plan" is to bottom out next year. Really? The plan is to bottom out the year after one of the deepest drafts in recent memory? A draft with a generational talent available? I sure hope that is not the plan....
  5. Most people will remember Tim McCarver as a broadcaster, but I'm old enough to remember his as a member of the Montreal Expos, Cardinals and Phillies..... https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/tim-mccarver-mlb-catcher-and-broadcaster-dies-at-81/ RIP, Tim...
  6. Looks like Oakland might lose another team that eventually ends up in Vegas..... https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/mlb/manfred-athletics-owner-focusing-on-move-to-las-vegas/ar-AA17xoY7?cvid=5457d5c5f4b148e885b3c50b25324b58
  7. A goalkeeper for a Belgian amateur football side, died on the pitch, right after saving a penalty: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/goalkeeper-dies-suddenly-after-saving-penalty/ar-AA17sYYX?cvid=a452263594be4f81bc71dba1ff6b5903 Of course, it's only a matter of time before the anti-vax crowd blame it on the vaccine....
  8. The sad thing is, I thought the zebras did a decent job, right up until that holding call.... I'm seeing a lot of articles and tweets saying that since Bradberry admitted to tugging Juju's jersey, it puts the whole "bad call" narrative tor rest....but I disagree.... In my view, it's very reminiscent of the recent Canucks game against New Jersey. The call that went against the Canucks that led to the Devils' goal in OT was technically a penalty, however, the same call had been let go earlier in the game, when it was one of the Devils with the hook in... That doesn't mean that I can point to a play where the Chiefs got away with a hold, but I've played and reffed hundreds of games and that kind of play happens all the time. I have a hard time believing that the grab by Bradberry was the only time it had happened all game. What I do know is that it was the only time it was called. I didn't have a dog in the fight, but I was really looking forward to watching the Eagles try and tie it up.....and then a possible OT. Too bad one ref didn't get the memo....
  9. I think this Chiefs fan says it best: He's happy that they won, but bummed about how they won.... The thing is, KC would have still been in the driver's seat. Hurts would have had to pick up around 50 yards in just over a minute, just for a tie.... ....but instead of the excitement of watching him try, the officials decide to make a borderline call, that somehow wasn't called all game before that.
  10. Technically, I suppose that was a penalty, but if ever there was a time to "let them play", that was it.... Overzealous zebra just ruined what would have been a very entertaining last minute and a half....
  11. First of all, I'll be surprised if this thread lasts..... I watched the video and I think the guy makes some decent points, however I don't share his optimism that the divide can be bridged.....
  12. I think it's safe to say that the QB for whichever team wins will get the MVP...
  13. I can see them sticking with the call on the field, but I don't think that was complete.... Edit: That being said, I thought there was PI on the play as well....
  14. I never wish injury on anyone, but when you're a QB recovering from an ankle sprain, you can't risk a run like that....
  15. This is why you never underestimate a former Sooner QB.... ....unless, of course, his last name starts with "M"....
  16. Well, at least the Habs did us a solid and picked up 2 points....Gotta cheer for the Jackets, 'Yotes and Hawks now.... I think we have a legitimate shot at dropping past the Sharks, Coyotes and Ducks, especially if we move more veterans for picks/prospects.....Chicago and Columbus are going to be a tall order, though...no matter who stays or goes... One thing that worries me a bit is the fact that when you look at goal differential, the Canucks' (although lousy) is far better than any of the teams tied with, or below them in the standings. This could be a product of all those blown leads that turned into late game losses in the first half, but it suggests to me that it might be difficult to drop further in the standings unless the goaltending continues to be sub-par....
  17. Once again Soccer Canada is screwing over the national Team...this time the Women's team who are supposed to be training for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, seen as a tune up for this summer's Women's World Cup: https://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/article/canadian-womens-national-team-players-demand-change-at-canada-soccer/ In an interview on Sportsnet today, Sinclair said that they had sent a letter outlining their concerns to Soccer Canada, but hadn't even gotten a response....
  18. i hope nobody is lumping me in with this group. I don't really have a big problem with Miller....it's just that I want a full rebuild around Petey, Huggy and Kuz. I'd like to see as many vets moved for picks and prospects as possible.
  19. OTOH, I've heard that Miller is an excellent cook.....when he wants to be.... The problem is that sometimes he's too lazy to get back to the stove and the food gets burnt.....
  20. I hope you're right, J..... because I don't think there's a chance in Hades that PA will be able to trade JTM.....not unless he retains a big chunk of that contract.
  21. Just my opinion, but I think that if PA got even a halfway decent offer for JT, he'd pull the trigger. Miller is a good player right now, but that contract is going to be an anchor in a few years. I have to believe that there aren't teams who could use him in a playoff push. (If there's anyone in that position with the Cap room) Take the lesser deal, if it means freeing up that money. WE're going to need it for Petey's next deal.
