  1. Read a report today that Navarro has asked for a trade. He likely doesn't like the idea of backing up Martin, or just being a DH. Maybe there's a deal to be made with the Cubbies. They were supposedly hard after Russel, so Dioner might make a good consolation prize.
  2. Generally, I agree with you and Grapefruits. Benny and Jones made many mistakes this season. However, I would give them one more shot with a healthy lineup. Especially at QB. Cleaning house at this point seems unfair to me. YMMV.
  3. I'm wondering if you even read my post, Heffy. I'm cutting Wally and Benny some slack, because they had to try and win with KG behind center. Yes, maybe they should have given Beck or Partridge more of a look, but that guarantees nothing. It could easily have been worse. I'm cutting the offense some slack because they had to deal with injuries to so many starters. Harris especially. I'm not blaming the defense for running out of gas. I realize it's because they spent so much time on the field. Sure, there's always room for improvement. But unlike some, I'm not ready to crucify a team that played the entire season without their #1 QB.
  4. Personally, I give this year's team a mulligan. I don't expect any team to challenge for the Grey Cup when spending the entire season without their #1 QB and significant time without starting receivers and their best running back. I think the defense ran out of gas and it showed in the 2nd half of the season. Remember when Bazzie and Yell both looked like sure fire all-stars? The only member of the D who maintained his play all year was Sol. If the Leos can't turn it around with a healthy squad next season, then decisions might be needed on Wally and Benny...
  5. Even though Gose has Major league playing time, I still see this as a prospect for prospect trade. The Jays were relatively deep in outfield prospects, so they moved one of them for a player who might be able to fill a need in the infield.
  6. I didn't forget it. I just decided to stick with movies about WWI and II....
  7. My Top 10 war movies: Schindler's List Saving Private Ryan Das Boot All Quiet on the Western Front The Dirty Dozen The Boy in Striped Pyjamas Letters From Iwo Jima Enemy at the Gates Defiance Windtalkers
  8. Sooners fan. This goes way back to the day that cable television arrived in Prince George. (Before that, it was CBC and CTV only) My very first Saturday with cable was spent watching Oklahoma beat Nebraska, behind the running of a guy named Elvis Peacock. (seriously) I've been a Sooner supporter ever since and have cheered for the 'Huskers to lose for just as long....
  9. It was more about freeing up Cap space than anything. They picked up Smoak off waivers to give themselves flexibility at first. I think they also plan on having Edwin play there as well. The bigger news, IMHO, is that they're reported to be "far apart" in negotiations with Melky. If he opts for free agency, (which looks more and more likely) the Jays will only have Joey Bats as a proven, everyday outfielder. I have to believe that AA is planning on using the money saved in trading Lind to address the lack of depth in the outfield and bullpen.
  10. In the spirit of the season: Good Friday the 13th Night of the Living Grateful Dead The Sun's Shining Children of the Candy Corn The Fog Horn Drew Carrie Mississippi Bra Burning (Now that's scary!)
  11. Judging by the comments over the past couple of days, I have to guess that De Vos was defending the call? (or at least playing the Devil's advocate?) I'd be interested to hear what Kristian Jack had to say about it. Did he comment? FWIW, Paul Dolan said it was 100% a bad call.
  12. I was only able to watch the first half last night and honestly, outside of the first few minutes, I thought they looked terrible. Giveaway after giveaway. I'm guessing they were much better in the 2nd half?
  13. Worst thing about a Broncos - Patriots match up is that someone has to win. Best thing is that someone has to lose. (I know, it could be a tie, but I doubt it)
  14. This is one of the things that really bothered me about both the Halloween and Friday the 13th franchises. It seemed like nothing could kill these guys. Freakishly strong? Okay, I guess, (even though a young Michael Myers looked like an average sized kid, as did his parents and then he spent the rest of his formative years in the nut house, where I don't imagine hitting the weight room is part of the programme) Able to move around virtually unseen and unheard, despite being roughly the size of Rhode Island? Sure, why not? But, somehow morphing into Superman pushes it too far.
  15. I think for the play to be run properly, Harvin has to make that lateral (or not) before exiting the endzone. The other player should be at the very back of the endzone, while PH is near the goal line. That way, anything that isn't picked off, is still a touchback and results in the Jets having the ball at the 20. Personally, I think it's dumb having the player "hide" like that. As a former player myself, it's hard for me to imagine something that would make me take notice more than a player lying down on the weak side of the play. The Jets would have been better off to have him and Harvin close to each other as the ball was kicked and then have him split out (and back) when it became clear that Harvin was going to field it.
  16. I didn't get to see the game live, but I've seen the replay several times and I think people are wrong to blame Harvin on this one. I think he was ready to throw the ball to whoever that was, that was trying to look invisible, but he saw the Bills' onrushing defender and decided (correctly, IMO) that throwing the ball was going to result in a pick 6. They should be blaming whoever came up with such a poorly designed gadget play in the first place. My guess would be the special teams coach. BTW: As someone who's reffed a few hundred football games in my day, I believe that the correct call was made in the Bengals-Ravens game. The Bengals defender had established position and was likely to knock the ball away, if not pick it off. Smith grabbed the front of his jersey and threw him aside. That gets a flag from me every time.
  17. He was only in the starting 11 because Hurtado was under the weather. Nothing he did yesterday is going to make Robinson think that he should start him again on Wednesday. The big question is whether Manneh starts, or if his pace more effective after an hour and the opposing defenders a bit tired. If it was up to me, I'd keep yesterday's starters, but have Hurtado in, instead of Mattocks.
  18. My top 10 Horror list: 13 Ghosts House on Haunted Hill (1999) The Changeling The Evil Dead (1981) The Cabin in the Woods The Exorcist An American Werewolf in London Hellraiser The Thing (1982) and for pure weirdness, Phantasm
  19. I don't think the play of the Leos' defensive backs can be understated in this. The pass rush was good and I liked the decision from the coaching staff to put extra pressure on Willy, but there were a bunch of those sacks that were the result of him hanging on to the ball too long, because he couldn't find an open receiver.
  20. Holy spoilers Batman! I thought we had a "spoiler friendly" thread somewhere around here....
  21. How can you possibly "guarantee" something that you have absolutely no proof of?
  22. Yes, I do. But it has nothing to do with Bettman, or the TV deal. It's more a case of those two teams not being legitimate contenders...
  23. So I just came across this really difficult GoT trivia game: http://www.sporcle.com/games/mr_sparkle/hodors-most-spoken-words-in-got Don't feel bad if you don't get them all....
  24. Schindler's List comes to mind. They played it on History Channel last night. Amazing film, IMHO....
  25. Completely agree. I was trying to watch the Canucks game at the same time, so I missed some of the action, but from what I saw, the 'Caps played a very casual game, with the exception of the first 10 minutes. I can't remember how many times I saw them try half-assed little touch passes, instead of bearing down and making sure. It's like they figured the Quakes were going to roll over and play dead. Also agree on the substitutions. Taking Laba off the pitch while leaving Tiebert on, is a head scratcher to me.
