A couple of questions: 1 - Since I don't bother paying attention to contract rules, someone who does can answer this....if we take him on for the balance of this season, we can just not qualify him next year and he becomes a FA, correct? 2 - Does adding him for the balance of the season push us lower in the standings? If the answer to both of those questions is "yes", then I say, "git 'er done!"

Quite aptly, it's been raining here all day...RIP Burt....

It's hard to believe, but 2 millennia ago, the Romans were making better concrete than we produce today. It's been the subject of many studies and scientists think they've finally figured out the secret..... https://www.wired.com/story/secret-roman-self-repairing-concrete/?utm_source=pocket-newtab This has huge implication, since (as noted in the article) concrete structures tend to cost several times their original cost, thanks to repairs and replacements. Not only would this be a benefit to the environment, it would (theoretically) lower construction costs..... Just incredible that we've discovered such a significant "innovation".....2,000 years after it was invented.... EDIT: It's also worth noting that it's likely the damage from earthquakes like we just saw in Turkiye would be less devastating with better quality concrete.

Sorry, any team based out of Canberra must be called the "Cudas".....

But just think G....the Canucks season could go down the drain in the opposite direction.....

In the article I read, some people thought that it was, but it turned out not to be. Apparently, they are "investigating"..... -
I'm a bit surprised that there isn't a thread on this, but there was a terrible incident in Laval yesterday. An obviously mentally disturbed bus driver crashed his bus into a Daycare at the time of morning when parents are typically dropping off their kids. 2 children were killed and 6 injured..... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/bus-hit-daycare-laval-1.6740987

So....this happened on Monday night in Sunrise, where the Panthers were taking on the Bolts.... Of the top of my head, I'd suggest a lifetime ban and maybe even assault charges....but I have to wonder WTF Security was doing while this was happening? -
Had no idea that this was even happening.....the Whitecaps are currently playing in the Coachella Valley Invitational preseason tournament. The Caps beat Toronto FC 3-nil today, after drawing 1-1 with both Charlotte and DC United, earlier in the tournament. https://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/article/dajome-scores-twice-as-whitecaps-blank-toronto-fc-in-pre-season-play/ Link to the tournament site: https://coachellavalleyinvitational.com/

Canuck Goaltending: What gives and where to from here?
RUPERTKBD replied to JamesB's topic in Canucks Talk
I think Canucks' management has long held this belief that the fanbase won't accept a true rebuild and that the team would take a huge financial hit.....and they may have been correct. That being said, I think the Horvat - Miller situation and the Boudreau fiasco, (combined with awful defensive play and a historically bad PK) may have finally pushed Canuck fans into the "anything is preferable to perpetually striving for mediocrity" camp. I was ready to do it in 2014. Now, almost a decade later, I am once again hoping for a do-over, rather than a do-again..... -
[Official] Canada's Men National Football Team (Soccer)

Completely forgot that a couple of our national team members play professionally in Turkiye. Atiba Hutchison was safe in Istanbul when the quake hit, but Sam Adekugbe was in the earthquake zone in Antakya, the city where he plays football for club Hatayspor. (You may have read about SA's teammate, Christian Atsu being found alive in the rubble. Atsu is a Ghanaian International) Luckily, Adekugbe was able to get to safety and is now in Istanbul with Hutchison: https://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/article/canadas-sam-adekugbe-describes-the-horror-of-the-earthquake-in-turkey/ -

I'm ready for a true rebuild. We've been trying the "retool" thing forever and it's not working. That being said, I wouldn't move Demmer unless there was a legit offer in return. It would have to be something that impacts the future significantly. We can ride the Martin - Delia tandem for a while, or sign a FA to take some of those games until Silovs is ready for prime time. -

Rumor: Rutherford Believed To Want Out Of Vancouver

Lets not forget that this is the same Steve Simmons who fabricated a story about Phil Kessel going for a hot dog at exactly the same time every day. Any "sportswriter" who would post an outright lie about a player he doesn't like doesn't belong in the business. -
The way they set up their roads up there is a bit different. There were no towns along the way, like a regular highway. The road bypasses all the inhabited villages along the way. (You turn off the highway and drive in a mile or so) Also, no pavement. Just hard packed dirt. We drove up in early September, so it was very dusty. Even with the door firmly closed on the box truck, our gear was covered in a layer of dust. As far as scenery goes, it isn't much to speak of. A lot of flat, rocky ground with the occasion bush.....There is one stretch where you drive right beside Great Slave Lake for a bit, which is kind of cool, because it's so big it feels like you're right beside an ocean.... The other thing was the night sky. Because there are no towns along the way, it gets about as dark as you've ever seen on that road. You see the stars in fantastic detail. Same for the northern lights. I've seen them several times, but never as vivid as that trip to YK

I've driven the road to Yellowknife, so I feel like I've covered that one....

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember the "Crazy Canucks" era of Ken Read, Steve Podborski and the two Daves (Murray and Irwin).....back when it was all about speed. I fully admit that i don't pay a lot of attention to the newer X games events....at least, not until the Olympics roll around....

^^^^ I have it on good authority that the balloon is question was made from the same material that KFC uses for it's cutlery.... ....no wonder they couldn't damage it....

It's always a risk. The deal above is more about getting out from under Boes' contract. I doubt Anthony Mantha or Lars Eller would be in the long term plans for the Canucks. Still your point has merit. If you want to move on from Bo and free up Cap space, it's best to pull the trigger. Conversely, if you're looking for a deal that impacts the long-term prospects of the team, you probably look elsewhere....preferably somewhere where the Cap isn't an issue and they have Draft/Prospect capital to spend. Not sure where that might be though....
