  1. Yeah, you're not supposed to be allowed to do it, but everyone knows those "behind the scenes" conversations happen all the time. It wouldn't even surprise me if PA told Lou the number Bo's camp were asking for.
  2. I was pretty sure this would get done. Lou has been around too long to make a deal without being sure he could sign Bo to a long term deal.
  3. Just read an article from a writer who covers the Caps and he advocates a Boeser for Anthony Mantha deal. In his words, a swap of two players who need a fresh start. The players are making similar money, but the advantage here for the Canucks is that Mantha has one less year before his contract is up. He also mentioned Lars Eller, which makes more sense for the Canucks (if a pick or prospect is included) but Washington would likely ask the Canucks to retain salary on that one. Thoughts?
  4. Those of us who are into Science Fiction have been reading about the "Slingshot" method of launching objects into space for quite a while.... This company in California is close to making it a reality: They expect to be launching satellites by 2026.
  5. Jeez, Bishop..... Sure, maybe we'd live longer, but would life be worth living without beer and whiskey? (and steaks)
  6. You're reading way too much into what I said....all I asked is who people think is our best Canadian born player....
  7. A bit of a nit pick here, but I'm pretty sure TL wasn't Captain any more by the time he was traded to the Isles....
  8. Somewhat off topic, now that Bo is gone, who is the best Canadian player on the Canucks? It might be the Beau they got from the Isles....
  9. I think there's a bit of confusion regarding the reported offer that was tendered to Bo... However, my understanding is that once talks with Bo's camp stalled, management made the decision to pivot to negotiations with Miller's group. That suggests to me that there was never a plan to re-sign them both. It was always going to be one or the other. As far as moving the Isle's pick for a defenseman....I certainly hope that is not the plan....This team needs a rebuild...not another defender who might drop our GA by a few percentage points and see us finish outside the bottom 10.....
  10. I've already spoken at length about the Rome suspension. IMO, it had more to do with the optics of the hit (the image of an obviously concussed Horton lying on the ice) than it did some personal vendetta against the Canucks. (or trying to help his son's team win) We can agree to disagree on that. That being said, I don't see how Campbell would have been able to influence the officials in that series. AFAIK, the director of DoPS has no such influence over on-ice officials....certainly no more than Terry Gregson who was NHL Director of Officiating in 2011 and did not have any children playing for the B's....
  11. I've had this debate several times over the past decade (and longer) and my POV is always an unpopular one with Canuck fans.... I don't believe there is any sort of "fix" in to ensure "favored" markets do well at the expense of Canadian teams. People point to 2011 and the example usually given is that of Marchand punching Daniel repeatedly and the zebra waiting for Danny to say something so he could take both of them. In my mind, that's "game management". (something many of us dislike, but it isn't favoritism) In a close game in a playoff series, refs a reluctant to give manpower advantages. We can debate whether it's a good thing or a bad thing, but it isn't what we're talking about now. The fact is, the Canucks finished that series with a clear advantage in powerplay opportunities. Unfortunately, (unlike the regular season) they were unable to capitalize. That being said, if you want an example of how the "favoritism" complaint is over done, I would point to a series between the Habs and Capitals. (Sorry, can't recall the year off the top of my head, only the situation) In that series, Washington had a goal disallowed on an extremely questionable Goaltender Interference call in game 7....a game (and a series) they would go on to lose by a goal.. This was the President's Trophy winning Capitals team. A team without a Stanley Cup, playing in a major American city and with one of the league's most marketable superstars.....yet in this case, apparently, the league was fine with the upset by an original six team that would draw fans and remain viable no matter what their record. All of that aside, consider what would happen if such a conspiracy came to light. People like Bettman and Daly wouldn't just be fired....they'd go to jail. AFAIK, Gary makes several million per year, yet people believe he's willing to screw their team over.....All for the dubious benefit of "helping" teams he prefers..... Sorry, I just can't buy it. Is the officiating sometimes incompetent and decisions by DoPS, etc, inconsistent? Absolutely. Is it biased against the Canucks / Canadian markets? No.
  12. I haven't read all the posts ITT, so I'll take your word for it that some are hating him.... For me personally, I don't have any problem with his wanting to get the best deal he can....however, to suggest that he was "blindsided" and/or that he is "gutted", (both words that I have seen used to describe his reaction to the deal) seems like a case of wanting it both ways. According to the reports I've seen, the Canucks made a competitive offer, which Bo's camp decided wasn't good enough. That's fine, if that's how you feel, but I don't think being traded should be surprising considering those factors.
  13. TBH, I like Cheech for that reason.....color guys are color guys and there's only so many ways to say "activate the defense", and "make the smart play".....it gets kind of boring after a while, no matter who it is. Then you have stories like the one from early in Cheech's career....(I'm telling the story from memory and I read it a long time ago, so apologies if it's not dead accurate) I think he was in Hartford at the time, but the story goes, he was backing up that night. Since the starter had been on fire for the past few games, Cheech was sure that he wasn't going in, so he had one of the assistant equipment guys grab him a hot dog from the vendor.... Of course, just as he's ready to dig in, the starter goes down with an injury. Knowing that all of a sudden, all eyes are on him, Cheech panics and hides the hot dog in his pants....Having no way to get rid of it, without alerting the coach, he heads out onto the ice with the hot dog firmly nestled in his goalie gear and finishes out the game that way.... Other than the equipment guy, no-one was the wiser, although I imagine they must have wondered about the mess his Long Johns were after stripping off the gear.... That's just the kind of thing you'll never hear from a "regular" color guy.....
  14. I don't pay a lot of attention to other teams' announcers, but he'd have to be pretty extreme to "out-homer" Cheech.... Funny thing is, the one guy who probably was a bigger homer is Tom Larscheid and Canuck fans seem to absolutely love him......and he wasn't even a hockey guy....
  15. A couple of "apropos of nothing" observations ('cause it's slow at work and I'm bored)...... 1 - People are upset with the way Miller treated Delia and I agree, it was kind of harsh.....but....If you were watching Delia in that situation and not yelling "WTF are you doing!" at the TV, I have to question your hockey knowledge..... 2 - Bo is "gutted" or "blindsided", etc by the trade....That honestly confuses me. My understanding is that the 'Nucks pivoted to negotiations with Miller after talks with Bo's camp were unproductive. Is that wrong?
  16. To be clear, I doubt that Canucks move him, but if they did, I think the Kings, Pens and maybe even the Sabres would be kicking the tires.
  17. This season is one thing, but Demmer is signed for multiple years at a decent Cap rate. If the Kings did go that route, I expect they'd see him as a long-term solution.....
  18. Bert's nickname on the Canucks was "Grumpy"... There's a great story that one of the 'Nucks beat writers told about Bert getting on the team plane and dishing out abuse to every player he went past on his way to the back of the plane....As he passed Mo, he said, "And you're 23 years old and you're bald!".... As he settled into his seat a minute later, a voice was heard from several rows in front of him, "I'm 26, a$$hole!".....
  19. The "reason" was that two high draft picks didn't immediately start lighting it up in the first NHL season. Just more clueless, so-called "fans".
