Worked out pretty well in the end...I guess we'll see if Tua is "recovered" enough to play next week..... Very happy to see the Bengals win as well....the whole "coin toss" thing was stupid....

[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread
RUPERTKBD replied to The Stork's topic in Off-Topic General
The Red Sox have added Justin Turner's bat, apparently to replace JD Martinez who elected to become a Free Agent. Turner is expected to DH and occasionally fill in at 1st, since the Bosox already have Rafael Devers manning 3rd.... https://theathletic.com/4065729/2023/01/06/justin-turner-familiar-red-sox/ -
Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson has great idea for the Bengals tomorrow.... ....their TD celly against the Ravens should be a mock coin flip..... I hope they do it....

No good place for this, (AFAIK, we don't have a World Cup Skiing thread) but it's been a while since Canada was relevant on the WC circuit and this is a great result: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/cycling/it-s-a-dream-come-true-canada-s-valérie-grenier-wins-giant-slalom-gold-in-slovenia/ar-AA164wxv?cvid=c83090687e8f4f5098faed99ddcc653d

I think this is probably the best they could have done....the only big problem I have with it is the "coin flip" if the Ravens beat the Bengals...hopefully Cincy takes care of business tomorrow (and I think they will) and it becomes a moot point... I also hope the "neutral site" idea becomes moot as well....even if it means KC gets the #1 seed.... Apparently Detroit and Indy have already taken themselves out of the running for that potential game. Thinking waayyyy outside the box, I wonder if Toronto is a possibility... They'd have to modify the field and it would be considered a "home" game, if the Bills were involved, but right now it doesn't look like there are a lot of options....

It makes it a bit tricky when you live 900 miles away as well. I have a nephew in Kelowna. I'll probably end up asking him to try and get me one.

I was also looking at one of those packs with three different ones, but in smaller bottles. About $200....but I still have to enter that lottery system apparently....

[Poll] Who would you trade for the 1st OA pick?
RUPERTKBD replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I would trade either for that pick. It would probably have to be a situation where we had a lottery pick already and we threw in one of them to get the lottery winners to swap picks with us.... -
The Jameson's stands out like a sore thumb.... Nice to see they've got the full Laird lineup there. I was hoping to get lucky and pick up the cask strength when I was there last summer, but no dice....

Some good news on the Damar Hamlin front: As far as the game itself goes, it's looking more and more like the league is going to cancel it altogether and use winning percentage to determine playoff seeding. There's still a week 18 slate of games to be played, but this decision pretty much gives the Chiefs the #1 seed. Both the Bill and the Bengals lose out on a chance at the top spot, but from what I've read, both franchises are onboard with the decision. Joe Burrow was quoted as saying he wants to do whatever the Bills want to do. Can't say enough about the class demonstrated by the Bengals all the way through this situation. As a Bills fan, I had high hopes for my team this seasons, but TBH, whatever happens from here on in is fine....so long as DH is okay....

I stand corrected.....

It was. My response was a line that Ricky used in an episode.....IIRC, the line was "And they're not even a real country, like Calgary or Texas".... I have to confess that I sometimes take part in the prairie province bashing, (specifically Alberta and Saskatchewan) but I come by it honestly. I spent the bulk of the 80s traveling around those two provinces with a band. I've seen the attitude first hand.... Gotta say....the irony isn't lost on me that we're discussing TPB here in the Science thread.

We have the most famous Trailer Park....but not as many as some of those other countries, like Calgary and Texas.....

....and speaking of suspensions:

Forgettable college FB season for me....my Sooners finished under .500 (for the first time I can remember in ages) after losing the "Cheez-It" Bowl to Florida State.... .....and then today, I see this: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/ncaafb/cfb-world-reacts-to-nc-state-announcer-s-horrific-comments/ar-AA15Pka8?cvid=de72a28684ba4aad8ae6cce1b43b3e8c

One of my heroes, Brian May will soon be Sir Brian May..... https://www.msn.com/en-ca/entertainment/news/queen-guitarist-brian-may-thrilled-to-become-sir-bri-after-king-charles-first-new-year-honours-list-revealed/ar-AA15QCuC?cvid=3ec3d54f80e34d30b18986fa1fbbf6f1 If King Chuck keeps this up, I might even start to like him....

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murders of four college students in Idaho last November.... https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/idaho-university-student-murders-update-12-30-22/index.html No details on what led police to the suspect, but hopefully they have the right person.

Three anti-vax (former) nurses has had their Defamation lawsuit dismissed: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/ontario-judge-dismisses-puzzling-1m-libel-action-by-anti-vaxx-nurses/ar-AA15LFCX?cvid=21159954b4154901a5425db6a8ab1c0d The article that prompted the lawsuit was from a small publication in Comox and it's a bit of an eye opener: https://comoxvalley.news/quack-quack-these-pro-virus-nurses-have-dangerous-ideas/

I don't think I was one of the negative people, but since you mentioned it, I use the "Beer" emoji more than any other and it's waaayyyyyyy over on the left......at my age, the cursor tends to slip before I get to it and I end up clicking on Vintage, just to get the damn upvote done.... I vote for moving Beer, LOL and Thanks to the right and moving Huggy, Slava and Paper Bag to the left. If you want to paper bag someone, you should have to earn it....

Speaking of healthy, I see that Tua has been placed in concussion protocol......again....And (once again) the spotters missed the play that caused it.... So I suppose the question is, with Miami trying to make the playoffs, will they ignore the danger again and let Tua play? RGIII doesn't think they should.......for the rest of the season....

I'm with Ghosts.....bring 'em on. The more choices the better....

Getting back to the game itself, I felt a bit bad for the Lions yesterday, but OTOH, the Panthers have given themselves a chance to win out and make the playoffs. This would be good news for a couple of reasons.... Firstly, it would mean Canadian RB Chuba Hubbard makes the playoffs.....and second, it would mean that Tom Brady would miss the playoffs....

Every once in a while, something happens off the field that makes you proud to be part of a fanbase.... https://www.msn.com/en-ca/travel/news/10-south-korean-tourists-were-stranded-in-a-blizzard-near-buffalo-they-spent-2-nights-in-a-stranger-s-home-cooking-and-watching-football/ar-AA15EUnU?cvid=5946ce4b8012483d80b2694b00f969fc . Now, I admit that there is no mention of this guy being a Bills fan, but c'mon....everyone in Buffalo is a Bills fan..... Then, on the same day, I read about this despicable act from and Eagles fan: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/nfl/look-eagles-fan-getting-crushed-for-despicable-act/ar-AA15GxcD?cvid=5946ce4b8012483d80b2694b00f969fc To be fair, several Eagles' fans weighed in and disavowed the posters' comments, but wow....that's taking a rivalry way too far....
