[Report] Kyle Clifford to test free agency

MacEwen.......just saying. -
Or we just trade Sutter and re-sign Marky, Toffoli & Tanev. Done.

This is false. The BCTF was not given a choice so its not correct to say they 'opted to take part in return to work'. Anyone who's informed knows the BCTF opposed the government plan from day 1 and still has issues with it. Like nurses, paramedics, firefighters ect they were never given a choice. I've not personally spoken to a single teacher that wants to be working in schools under the current conditions - most want to work yes, but not under the joke conditions the government set-up which do NOTHING to protect students or those that work with them.
-
Good question. I know at my nephews school the PAC is a joke in the sense that they're given a fair amount of say in some matters around the school which directly affect staff/students but in reality they are a tiny percentage of parents (5 people) who are supposedly representing over 1000 parents in total. Are they really representing all parents? Provincialy the ministry's of health & education were thrilled to publicly state that the provincial PAC group was on board with the re-start plan but again, a minuscule number of parents on that committee were speaking for over 2million parents province-wide and was there meaningful consultation made before the PAC endorsed the government?

[Report] Washington name Peter Laviolette as head coach

Wut? You've seen how many coaches have been fired in the past 5 years, right? -
Buying a new TV is 4K worth dropping 4K?!
Fanuck replied to Bruce Boudreau's topic in Off-Topic General
My father-in-law has a 4k capable TV, but as you said the channels are extremely limited. Bottom line, he said he would never have paid the regular price for a 4k tv (he got a deal for his TV and paid the same as a regular HD tv so that's why he got it). So no, imo, just wait it out until 4K is the standard (which it isn't now). -
While I 100% agree with you, I also 100% believe that there aren't enough people who feel this way and/or not enough people will actually do anything about it for the government to change the direction they have gone - which is to say, doing NOTHING to meaningfully protect children in BC and those that work with them every single day. This isn't directed at w.hippy, but NOTHING will change the government's mind unless the vast majority of all parents in BC take meaningful action towards this government - and no, forums/facebook/ect....won't do anything, sorry folks and it didn't sway the government the least bit from their ill-advised plan.

[Report] Washington name Peter Laviolette as head coach
Fanuck replied to mll's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I don't find it insane whatsoever myself. By itself yeah it's a lot of money, but comparatively speaking it isn't high for coaches in major pro sports. Even many NCAA football coaches get more than a lot of NHL coaches. -
Let's be honest kos, because the government certainly isn't, they absolutely know that covid will be present in schools - and they are 100% ok with that. They know that their measures are pitiful and virtually useless against the way which this virus transmits but at this point, the majority of parents are fine with it as well and the government has little pressure on them to do anything except exactly what they are doing right now which, as I mentioned, is virtually nothing. They are placing the youth of BC and those that work with them DIRECTLY into harms way and, like generals in a military conflict, they seem perfectly ok with the impending inevitable casualties which will result. I recently spoke with a neighbor of mine while doing some yard work and both of his kids are in high school. As parents, they have been informed by school administration that when an outbreak occurs, they will not be notified unless their kids sat beside someone who tested positive. Neither the class of the student who tested positive, nor the cohort of the infected person would be required to stay home. As said, the government, including the ministry of health and ministry of education, KNOW that covid will be present in schools soon, and they are ok with it.

[Discussion] Slava Voynov (Discussion)
Fanuck replied to Toews's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Benning from day 1, "We want to build a championship caliber team with personal character being one of the cornerstones of every player we bring here." Tiny tone deaf part of CDC, "How do you feel about domestic violence Jim"? -
VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality
Fanuck replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Canucks Talk
Let's not get too high (or too low) regarding these rankings and remember that these writers/bloggers have often seen not a single one of these prospects play live let alone many times like pro-scouts do before 'evaluating' players. Most of the time these articles/rankings are based off of published statistics and/or short video clips posted by people who are actually at games. -
Not agreeing with their actions, but it's quite easy for me to fathom the level of stupidity this would require - I have low expectations of large parts of society with regards to making decisions in life.

[Rumour] Oilers interested in Penquins G Matt Murray
Fanuck replied to Mackcanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
How do they expect to sign Murray who I believe is rfa and likely looking for a substantial raise? Is it going to be salary in = salary out wt a follow up trade ? -
[Rumour] Oilers interested in Penquins G Matt Murray

Why wouldn't coilers just wait for UFA's ? Holtby, Crawford, Lehner, Marky, Greiss, ect....someone's going to be available eventually. -
There are no teachers to hire kos, even if they were motivated to reduce class sizes - which they aren't. A decade and a half of full out war on teachers in this province by Campbell/Clark made sure nobody wanted to enter that profession. Ask the few teachers on CDC (I think Stawn is in a classroom) and they'll confirm - with the exception of s few districts there is a province-wide TTOC/Teacher shortage. The only way to reduce class size at this point, as I've mentioned before, with the limited resources in education right now, would be alternate day attendance which is a non-starter for government because of the parent pushback which would ensue - and with recent talk of an election we know Horgan is gonna do everything to appease parents.
-
Well, when the entire school (and often the entire district) is sent home newsletters after a case of measles is discovered but it's kept hush-hush if covid is discovered there seems to be a politically motivated and frighteningly negligent protocol that is being followed by government and school officials. I mean theres even more done to notify families when there's lice outbreaks.
-
https://www.popsci.com/story/health/school-coronavirus-outbreak-tracker/ Ok, this sounds downright criminally negligent, schools found to be purposely not publicly reporting cases.....
-
This is what so many people simply don't or refuse to understand - when other countries take stringent, meaningful measures in their school systems, and still students and staff are becoming infected - what do people expect will happen in BC with our governments half-a$$ measures and escalating cases all over the province?
-
Pretty much agreed. Sadly, in this case (school), I have little faith that most parents (not all mind you, just most) will do anything except what is most convenient for themselves - which in this situation means sending their children back to school full-time. Its perfectly clear the government's return to school plan is shaped wholly by political intention and doesn't even remotely protect those working on the front lines of education. You can't have one set of measures required for the rest of the province and simply throw said measures out when it comes to education and still claim safety is the #1 priority. It doesn't add up and that is, imo, why some parents and probably most educators feel anxious that the government has not acted in their best interests this time.
-
My nephews district did it's own local survey and got 85% of parents indicating they are sending their children back this week . I asked my rec hockey buddy about this (he's a VP in the district) and he says the district is expecting 85-90% enrollment. I personally think provincialy we're looking at at least 75% in-person attendance on average. Guess we'll find out soon.

September 9th, 2004. I feel like I've been contributing as consistently as anyone for a long, long time and have experienced many changes around here over the years. Here's to another 16 years!

Love what Tony Stretcher brings to the rink every night - but unless JB gets very creative and/or is lucky to be able to unload a few contracts, I don't see how we can't have at least another defenceman on the regular roster next season playing on an ELC other than Hughes (who we know is going to from ELC to massive, massive raise). Meaning there's an odd man out somewhere on defence sadly....
