Not to mention a fully funded, and regulated, child-care system. Not having that in place exposed a huge issue within society as soon as covid hit us.

Agreed H&P. Coaches and player's have said since the beginning they're not just in it for the 'experience' and that's EXACTLY what they should be saying and believing. But you have to believe that management is loving this situation - underdog group over performing (to some) with the best to come in the future when the core is truly battle tested and reinforced with some tweaks to the supporting cast. Imo it's a win/win situation right now for management/ownership.

[Speculation] Finnish sniper Laine on the board
Fanuck replied to NHL'er's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You're probably right, hard working character people, I've found, typically don't get along with, well...... Not to mention: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/jets-laine-chirps-canucks-decision-ban-fortnite-video-games/sn-amp/ -
The real question is how many other businesses have/are doing the same thing - either not publicly reporting and/or taking their sweet time doing so?

I didn't say it would be convenient - just more effective in stopping transmission. Let me ask a fair question - how much more inconvenient is the ministry or Ed's expectation that parents quarantine their children at even the mildest symptoms heading into cold/flu season? My nephew has cold/flu-like symptoms several times per month during the high season meaning his parents would be expected to take a week-to-ten days off per month if they were honest ppl (thay are) and quarantine him from school. Is that realistic for parents because that is the ministry's/school districts expectation right now.

[Discussion] Under the radar UFAs & Minor Signings
Fanuck replied to Ilya Mikheyev's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Would like JB to just focus on getting our own guys signed first. -
You should put your membership on hold deb. You shouldn't have to pay for a service you aren't using due to circumstances beyond your control - we could be talking many, many years of this. When my gym closed they put all memberships on indefinite hold and didn't charge anyone during that time period.

Gyms and nightclubs/bars are places I've read that are spreading the virus more so than other businesses. These places have, typically speaking, a younger clientele (20-30yo)? My gym is supposed to be open tomorrow for the first time since March - I used to be a 5 times/per wk lifter and now I'm on the fence about going bk.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again, the total dollar figure is often the headline whenever there's negotiations and/or signings, however the total contract dollar number isn't, imo, as significant as the overall percentage of team cap available allocated to any one player or group of core players. Too much percentage of cap allocated to a small number of players will prevent a GM from building the requisite depth necessary to construct a championship caliber team. JB shouldn't be focussing on dollars exclusively (I'm sure he isn't) but rather how much percentage of his available cap is being spent on particular assets. The issue with a covid influenced cap is that some players will expect raises due to performance/experience/entitlement/ect but the cap isn't going up as it normally would.

Good idea in theory but just because a doctor could dispense the drugs doesn't mean people will have the money to afford them - there will still be drug addiction related crime - lots of it - you are just changing out the street dealer with a physician. Then what you are really talking about if I'm hearing you right is a national, public, pharma-care system with a pretty wide open selection of government supplied narcotics and I'm not so sure people would want to be directly subsidizing drug addicts dependencies. I'm not arguing here, I just think it's far more complicated than it seems.

They said that about Edmonton too though.

Imo it's not even the cheapest option, but it is most definitely the option that appeases the largest portion of parents that much I'm certain of. The number of teachers and school staff in general who already have or who will ultimately end up going on leave (or calling in sick regularly) will be huge - this will end up costing districts (and therefore the government) a lot of money in the end - but that said, full-time attendance appeases the largest portion of parents so you know the government was going to go that route in September regardless of cases escalating provincialy or not...at this point it's not about safety as much as its about restoring the school system's role in supporting the economy at large.
-
My understanding was that was true in the 80's/90's but that in today's era TV revenues made up a far larger percentage of league revenue than they used to. Not saying it's more than tickets just much much more than it used to be.

Logical Cap Squeeze Suggestion(for league)

Keep the current hub-city/ bubble model for next season and allow NHL teams to carry a 'practice squad ' (essentially their AHL farm team rosters) in separate bubbles in their home NHL cities. Teams may call up guys after they pass medical clearances. Not perfect but what is?
-
If we could move on from LE for a 'reasonable' price I'm all for it, but at this point I don't see it happening since he's about as negative-value as you can find in the league. Better to look at moving two of: Sutter, Baer, Benn, Beagle or Rooster as these guys still have respectable trade value and it would have a similar(not same) effect on the cap as moving LE. Remember, I'm not saying we don't need these guys or they each aren't contributing greatly right now, just that at this point it's more realistic than dreaming someone takes LE off our hands without gutting our pics/prospects.

Small group alternate day attendance wt mandatory daily health checks and thorough cleaning between cohorts being in building/classrooms. Not 100% foolproof nor convenient for some I realize, but FAR safer for students and staff than simply throwing everyone into full-time attendance with essentially no other meaningful measures in place as is the plan right now. There are several things the PHO/MoE should and could be doing but they, for reasons unknown, refuse.
-
This is essentially what I was thinking as well. Some kind of model like the NFL which doesn't have farm teams but rather practice squads.

The double standard, and possible repercussions of it, are absolutely staggering. First the elderly of the province paid the price, now the government is forsaking the children by sending them back to school under poorly thought out circumstances. Unconscionable!
