  1. The NHL entered into a binding agreement with Rogers Sportsnet for broadcast rights in Canada. I subsequently entered into an agreement with my cable provider based on this existing agreement. NO WAY would I pay extra for PPV - in fact I would be asking my cable provider for a significant discount off my monthly bill if they did go this route. Not to mention the last time Sportsnet tried to broadcast Canucks games on PPV many years ago I distinctly remember it was a complete disaster in every respect.
  2. Horgan giving daily update at 3pm today. Media expect him to reveal plans to re-open province including loosening social restrictions and restarting economy. On a related note, my old hockey teammate told me his wife (a teacher) is being told to report back to work next week - there would be no reason for this other than they expect schools to re-open (to some degree). Not sure how I would feel about this as a teacher (or parent of a school aged child) but logically, the economy cannot fully re-open without the provinces single largest child-care provider (that's not how I feel personally about school or teachers - but I know it's what a lot of society feel) being reopened also?
  3. Weak judges or simply weak laws? Society could demand that the lawmakers create hugely punitive minimum sentences for specific crimes and take it out of 'weak judges' hands.......But who are we kidding, it's Canada........
  4. Ryan Johnson says he's happy with OJ's development this season. Quite frankly, I'd take his assessment over ANYONE on CDC no mater how closely they say they watch the prospects. https://www.sportsnet.ca/650/canucks-central-at-noon/ryan-johnson-talks-lind-juolevi-development-baertschi-goldobins-positive-attitude-remaining-patient/
  5. If there's not going to be fans, and all you need is an NHL size ice surface, with some other amenities, why not play games at locations where communities have been hit hard by various events such as Fort McMurray or Portapique? Sure fans won't directly benefit by watching, but it would still bring a financial boost to the community and offer something positive for those places to focus on. Just a thought.
  6. Happy to see this kid signed. Now I'll have to be a realist for a moment and hope he develops into a contributing regular at some point, all while understanding that he's an average sized (some might say undersized for NHL) 19yo, and never played in a NA pro-style system before and there may be a huge learning curve combined with ups and downs along the way. Let's hope for the best, but be realistic.
  7. Fear mongering to a highly reactive fan-base sure does drum up hits tho........pathetic on his part sadly imo.
  8. So a team like EDM would say, McJesus, you're so exceptional you're too good for our cap so you don't count while we would be saying LE, you're so bloody exceptionally average we're not going to count you on our cap.....lol.... Doesn't the GM's giving themselves CBO's do the same thing (circumvent the cap) - not to mention the random 'mutually voiding' of contracts or the not suspicious in any way 'skin disorder' bs........
  9. According to the frozenpool shift tracker website Hughes played less than 4% of his even strength shifts with Stecher, which is basically none - apparently Green and his staff don't like that combination very much for some reason? If we can manage some peripheral moves here/there (as well hope for a cbo - or two) and if JB offers Tanev a reasonable hometown deal (like he did Edler), I don't see a career Canuck like Tanev playing hardball and refusing a deal which works for both sides current situation. As mentioned earlier, there are so many variables in play......it's anyone's guess how this all plays out.
  10. I've heard this argument from various points of view several times now in the past couple months. One not insignificant factor which I feel is being greatly undervalued when people suggest Toffoli/Marky are priorities over Tanev is the role that Tanev played in Hughes' development this season. Hughes partner for the majority of his regular shifts was Tanev and that was not by accident, nor was Hughes Calder calibre season. Imagine Tanev riding shotgun for Hughes next season to help elevate his game even more or better yet, imagine Tanev being paired with OJ and having a similar effect on his development? What would that be worth to our franchise? I'm not saying Tanev is a must sign over anyone else, just that nobody ever seems to mention the importance of having an asset in place to assist in the development of young defenceman coming up in the system and the long-term value in that - all they focus on is his age and injury history. But there's way more value in Tanev than that imo.
  11. Ok then Mr. Caldwell.....get back to us when games are actually scheduled.
  12. That's a pretty good signing. Young, 6'3" 200lbs+ Centerman with scoring potential just entering his prime. He could be a steal with the cap going down.
  13. It's not 'unheard of' (Polytechnique massacre), but I hear what you're saying - it's very, very, very rare and a tragedy regardless of precedent or not.
  14. Between league revenue sharing, expansion fees, wage roll-backs, and possible bonus compliance buy-outs I feel they'll find a way to keep all current franchises financially viable. One thing that's not discussed much, but I overheard on some financial podcast I was listening to a few weeks ago (but can't find now) is that some of these owners have their franchises insured for these types of eventualities - but it's not being discussed much because the season is just on pause, not totally cancelled yet so nobody is in a position to collect insurance. If the league moved heaven and earth for over a decade to keep Arizona viable, surely they're not going to just cut franchises loose over one partially cancelled season.
  15. This is a key point in how our leadership has been responding to the pandemic and I agree completely coho, it is why in my view we've had more buy-in because of it - you just need to look to the south of us to see the backlash starting to escalate. There are a few pockets in a couple states right now (Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, ect....) that have held public pro-trump rallies that are against any rules/measures but who are we kidding - this will continue to escalate as long as their rules/measures stay in place. These people are looking at it from the point of view that not following the social distancing/established measures is actually exercising their 'liberty' - not saving their loved ones lives. I wouldn't even know where to begin a discussion with someone who held that point of view......but I'm sure some of you would know where to begin:). https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/us-trump-supporters-coronavirus-1.5535585
  16. Maybe so, but he was in an upper management position off and on with an NHL team and/or the league from 1987- 2018. He's been through numerous work stoppages (caused by various non-pandemic reasons of course), so he'd at least have actual first-hand knowledge of what all sides (league/players/owners) concerns would be after coming off an unwanted stop to the season. Not saying he's right or wrong, just that it's not some guy off the street trying to get hits for his blog.
  17. Sadly, I think we know the answer to this......
  18. Are we really at the stage where we can ease off measures: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/covid-19-bc-modelling-data-1.5535716 Our leadership has done a reasonable job thus far imo, I hope talk of easing measures isn't a result of political/social pressure. If medical science says so then fine, but if it's other reasons.....well.....
