  1. JR has publicly said he has total autonomy, but now you're suggesting FA influenced the decision to keep BB as long as they did?
  2. To Det: Demko, BoHo, Rathbone To Vancouver: Cossa, Edvinsson, Hronek, Nedeljovick (cap dump), 2nd Just spitballin'....
  3. Agreed, Justice served on the ice would be far better than anything the NHL would hand out. Does it though, there are literally dozens of scrums every game and you don't often hear about guys 'crossing the line'. There's definitely a code that's followed, and either this punk was never taught it or doesn't care about it until the time comes that someone on the ice makes him care about it.
  4. Again, it keeps coming back to mixed messages, JR has said he has total autonomy, yet then he alluded to the fact the organization didn't want to be paying 2 coaches at the same time for one reason BB wasn't let go sooner - now the organization is paying 3 head coaches.
  5. And then he left the entire coaching staff responsible for that lack of structure in place for essentially a season and a half and retained one of the main assistants also responsible when he finally decided to address his initial concerns????
  6. It's quite difficult to see management's vision for this organization when their actions regularly contradict their words. This has been the case since day one. Not to mention they lost a lot of my confidence in their ability to lead and assess when they did the about face from 'this can be a playoff team with the right structure/system ' to 'this club requires major surgery '. Again, total contradiction of their initial assessment.
  7. I'm sure that works b/c I do the same thing for TSN when I want to watch F1, but for how much I pay to have SN so I can watch Canucks, I don't think I should have to jump through hoops to do so.
  8. The sad reality is that guys like Pederson, Studinka, Dries, Stillman, Burroughs, PDG, Juulsen, Brisbois, ect...likely never see an NHL game (or very limited action if they do) on a legitimate contending team in the NHL, yet we're playing some of these guys 10-14min/night in some cases. This is why we're in the bottom third of the league sadly.
  9. I'm on board with the 'finish as low as possible' strategy to get the highest % chance possible - but realistically, we are probably going to end up with around a .500 record the rest of the way or just under that - meaning we're likely going to stay at or around position 5-10 which does NOT give us favourable odds unfortunately. Sadly, I just ran the sim and believe it or not - Montreal got #1 AND #2 : https://www.tankathon.com/nhl
  10. I feel like the guy saying - don't buy more house/car than you need and everyone around me is like:
  11. How about instead of retaining on contracts - management doesn't offer the type of contracts to guys that will inevitably end in a buyout/retention? Yes, I know a couple weren't current management's own doing, but a buyout, for any player on any team - is that not a cautionary tale to ALL NHL GM's?
  12. Lockwood was never destined for a long career. He plays with total reckless abandonment. He was either going to throw his body at someone and get hurt that way or vice versa. Unfortunately for him, there likely was no other path to the NHL other than to play that way.
  13. Minny getting slaughtered by that cap-buyout on Suter/Parise - let that be a cautionary tale to Allvin/JR!
  14. Only one direction the PK can go, right? That said, historically speaking Tocchet's PK units have been better than average. Not only do they keep goals against down, but they're active on the short-handed chances side of the puck as well. I'm not a statistician, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that if we had even a 'league average' PK, we could easily be in a WC position right now. As it is, the only thing winning does for us at this point is worsen our lottery odds sadly.
  15. During the presser I clearly recall Allvin saying that in his view only about half the roster was being utilized. I couldn't help but think, that if Allvin had provided Bruce with 'actual' NHL players, he would've used them. Dries, Studinka, Pederson, Stillman, Brisebois, Juulsen, maybe even Burroughs...these guys don't see the light of day in an NHL rink on a contending team - yet Bruce had no choice but to play them to the tune of over 100 combined games. I thought that was a very negligent thing of Allvin to say considering he's the one providing the players to Bruce.
  16. Going out on a huge limb - predict we play a fraction under .500 and there's a major injury to one key player....... This era of mediocrity isn't going away anytime soon folks - brace your expectations......
  17. Well, one positive of not making a coaching change sooner is that our odds for #1 OA went from 6.0% to 7.5% and climbing......
  18. Call them lies or whatever you want, but there have been clear inconsistencies since JR got here: -from day one said the team needs more structure and discipline and they'd be fine - absolutely nothing changed for a season and a half meaning essentially 2 FULL wasted seasons (let's face it folks, this season's done already for this club). -said this team lacks picks/prospects in the organization then traded a 2nd for a fringe NHL'er. -said they didn't have enough high end young defenceman in the organization and then drafted another redundant, average-sized winger -said they wanted to get cap flexibility - then re-signed Boeser and gave JTM an untradeable career-defining contract; not to mention they're trying to sign Kuz who won't be cheap either. -said they needed to address the defence last offseason and came back with the exact same group expecting different results -acknowledged they needed to improve the PK yet we sit dead last in the league in this area - this will likely be a key contributing factor as to why we miss PO yet again -publicly went on record saying if things didn't turn around 'hard decisions' would need to be made - then they sent a couple peripheral guys to the AHL (this was months before coaching change). -said one of the reasons they didn't make a coaching move sooner is that they didn't want to be paying 2 coaches at the same time - now they're paying THREE and the latest is the most expensive with a career losing record! -backed themselves into a corner with their Captain who's having a career season and is unlikely to be re-signed leaving a potential gaping hole in the lineup
  19. Didn't Tocchet and OEL have 'issues' in AZ which Tocchet tried really hard to downplay at the presser? Tocchet's systems are well known. He wants the defensive side of the puck taken care of first and anything else second. He said at his presser he doesn't mind his players being creative and trying to score, but in the past he's been highly restrictive of those types of players and what he will allow them to get away with on the ice. I see offensive output of these guys decreasing to varying degrees: Petey, Huggy (less so maybe b/c he gets lots of looks on PP), Kuz, Mik, Miller. BoHo's numbers, not that he'll be around long, will likely go down as well somewhat. You look at guys like St. Louis/Vinny in TB when Tocchet was there, they had some of their lowest outputs during his time.
  20. Wasn't Torts supposed to be that kind of coach? His style didn't work out here and it's certainly not working in Philly either. One wonders if that style of coaching works on today's modern athlete or if another type of method is more effective in motivating these guys? Do any of the elite teams in the league employ that type of coach who has that philosophy? I'm not saying it hasn't worked in the past, your example of your own team obviously backed up the method, but in today's NHL is that still applicable?
  21. To be fair, he's not helping his own cause when he's the one leaking some of the juiciest stuff in his own pressers for heavens sake!
