  1. Good point. This organization is a shadow of its former self. How ownership has allowed this club to get to this point, with the resources and community support they have is beyond any of us I suspect?
  2. LA is deep in RHD, if there's a deal to be made it should include that piece +.
  3. Is his career actually in jeopardy or is this just Carolina making people (NHL) think that so he can stay 'injured' and not count directly against the cap, then miraculously joint the team just in time for PO not unlike TB?
  4. Obvious choice is Demko - that worked great last time.
  5. Let's not paint the entire organization with the same brush. There's a lot of quality people that, I'm sure, would've handled the BB/BoHo situations differently if it were their call - Smyl, Sedins, Jonhson, ect....
  6. Or what.....do we actually expect the 'masses' to stop financially supporting this team. We all know there are die-hards that will take a stand (including myself) who refuse to give more money to this organization, but there are so many other people out there who blindly support this team by buying tickets, food/drink, merchandise, ect....the people who refuse make little to no difference sadly.
  7. Lots of injuries to key guys on contending teams right now.

Got to think a GM might want to get a jump on the trade market and get things rolling.....

@Fanuck I'm not laughing at you, FYI. I have zero confidence that this management group knows what it's doing. They are doctors claiming that we need major surgery, but they have so far, identified the wrong parts to do surgery on. It's pretty damning too that as "surgeons" that they had, at the beginning of the season, opted to invest in the wrong equipment for this team.

I hear you Dazzle, I was only half-heartedly thinking it might be our own GM who was involved in getting the trade-ball rolling so to speak.  I'm giving this management group even odds as to whether they do something big, or absolutely nothing meaningful - sad as that is.

I think you are assuming our management group knows what it's doing. I'm not sure about that.

  8. BoHo/Schenn for Mercer, Bahl + 1st. We're not getting Nemec unless we give them Huggy folks, accept it.
  9. I'd definitely buy this jersey, if I were still financially supporting this team. They won't get a direct dollar of mine until they make meaningful moves toward a direction other than 'mediocrity at all costs indefinitely. The cycle of mediocrity is just going to continue if you spend money folks. Rant over, sorry for that, maybe I'll have cause to look into this jersey after the TDL, or the draft .
  10. It might be his choice, but there is actually a rule in the CBA that say all players must wear the same uniforms (not exactly sure if that applies specifically to warm-up, but why wouldn't it? I've literally never seen a player wear a different uniform than his teammates ever in the modern era of hockey during warm-up) and the punishment if he refused to wear it would be that he didn't play and didn't get paid for refusing to wear it. What would be interesting is if the NHL decided to put a patch on ALL team jersey's that had a pride flag for example for a day or week or a month - then would he refuse to wear his team jersey and then subsequently get disciplined/punished for that?
  11. LGBTQ issues aside for a moment, these players are 'forced' to do things every single day. According to their contracts they 'must' participate in team activities unless otherwise specified by coaches/management which means they are 'forced' to go to practice, go on road trips, go to training camp, stay in team hotels, eat team meals at the same time, participate in pre-game warm-up, attend team meetings, ect....there's numerous examples of players being disciplined for not doing these 'forced' expectations. The Flyers could've easily disciplined Provo (with cause imo) but chose not to enforce this instance simply because they don't want to touch this issue with a 10ft pole. Both the Flyers/NHL are in a tough situation here - force Provo and it'll become an NHLPA grievance almost immediately, not force him and they look like they're tolerant of anti-rights stances.
  12. To Col: BoHo (50% retained on expiring deal), Schenn, Rathbone To Van: Newhook, Byram, Compher (last year of expiring deal)
  13. Contracts are definitely getting out of hand - have been for some time. Especially with the recent trend of jumping directly to 'career' contracts from ELC and skipping this 'bridge' entirely. That said, it's a no-win issue imo with reference to the CBA. The NHLPA will oppose any changes to the CBA that weaken player salary/contract positions and the NHL will drop that word nobody wants to hear 'lockout'. Sadly, it's management/ownership that created this contact issue imo - you can't blame players/agents for signing these ridiculous contracts that are being offered around the league.
  14. Maybe it's happened, but certainly not in this market, where a serving president of Hockey comes out publicly and tells everyone that he's been actively talking to other coaches during the season while the current coach is on the last year of a deal and struggling with his team? Would I call that 'deplorable', maybe not, but I also wouldn't call it completely professional either. How would JR like it if Aquaman came out in a presser and said he's looking for both a new president and a new GM? Something tells me that JR wouldn't appreciate that very much.
  15. Great point. It would give this management group plenty of time to figure out a real direction and also address the cap-issue - even if their solution is to simply wait out the contract expiry dates. I've said it in another thread, if JR insists on young roster players in return for BoHo for example, they could be creating a huge issue for themselves because the trend in the NHL right now for the good young players coming off ELC is to sign massive dollar/term and NOT do the 'bridge' type deals anymore. We simply couldn't afford that.
  16. Well, if someone offer sheet's Petey in 2024, would that be the worst thing for this franchise at this stage in our rebuild retool? It might force management/ownership to admit what they won't, and acknowledge we need a full rebuild. The right management group could do a lot with 4 1st round picks, which is surely what the level of offer would need to be for us not to match. I know some would believe he's 'untouchable' but unless you're a 'generational' player (debate over what exactly that means notwithstanding), nobody imo is untouchable.
  17. I'm hoping all those guys can be traded, plus more, but they've supposedly been trying to get this elusive 'cap flexibility' since day 1 and haven't been able to achieve anything except make our cap-situation even tighter. Why should we expect them to all of a sudden be able to trade all these guys now when they couldn't before?
  18. This is exactly what concerns me when JR is saying they want to get younger players back in any trade. Let's say you get a 'Boldy' level player or hit a home-run and get a Byram on trade for BoHo for example. That type of player is going to want to come off of their ELC right into a hefty contract with dollar/term (this isn't a debate whether they deserve it or not, it's simply the trend in the NHL right now - to pay huge contracts to players right off their ELC) - we simply can't afford that and have no long-range cap-structure plan in place as far as I can tell other than to simply 'wait out the bad contracts' as JR himself admitted today.
  19. The problem with this strategy is that it only works imo if you have your financial picture sorted out and have an actual cap-structure in place moving forward. If they do trade assets for 'younger players' then presumably those younger players are already on ELC and playing in the league. If they're already in the league, they've by definition burned at least one, or perhaps up to almost 3 years of their ELC. Good young players coming off ELC are demanding some hefty contracts recently - Boldy, Stutzle, Samuelsson, Dach, ect....we don't have the space for this simply put because management has not created the cap-flexibility they've been talking about so often. So yeah, on paper it sounds great to get younger, but if you get the kind of player you want in a BoHo trade they could be looking for a big pay-day coming off their ELC and we don't have that kind of cap-room, and won't for some time as JR himself finally acknowledged. A pick is a gamble, I understand that, but a pick could be a meaningful roster player in 2-3 years when some these other horrendous contracts are off the books and the financial picture of the organization is a lot clearer.
  20. No, I was specifically referring to the fact that JR mentioned one of his top priorities for the franchise was to create cap-flexibility, and most of us assumed that meant dealing several of the existing contracts that existed here before he arrived (assumed he was talking about other contracts, since he made that public statement several times before Boeser/Miller were signed). He made a critical error in judgment regarding his ability to move on from these contracts, and then he inexplicably exacerbated the cap issues by authorizing the Boeser/Miller deals thereby all but ensuring there would be zero cap-flexibility in the near future. Once he realized his error in reading the financial landscape of the league, and understood he was stuck with the contracts that were already on the books, he should have done the next logical step and NOT re-signed Brock or extended Miller imo. But he did the exact opposite to everyone's astonishment.
