Word on the mean streets of Växjö Sweden is that he's somewhere between 150lbs and 250lbs. Trainers have him on a strict diet of Knäckebröd, gammaldags mjölk and inlagd sill!
-
My guess is that they really wanted to interview EP regarding the twins Sweden connection and the influence (if any) they had on him and hockey in Sweden in general so that the CBC could incorporate that into their broadcast. I understand and appreciate his focus - but it would've been interesting to hear his comments on the twins legacy/influence - I'm sure we'll hear it but not until he's finished taking care of 'business'.

An ongoing injury situation would explain a lot. Line matching or no line matching, playoff defence tightening up or not - injury is pretty much the only explanation for a regular season ppg player of his experience/skill to literally drop off the map in the playoffs.

Brown had his 'C' stripped a few seasons ago in a very humiliating and public fashion.
-
My understanding was that these players can still be sent down to Utica after the Canucks' season ends: Sautner, Boucher, Goldobin, Motte Admittedly, I stand to be corrected if the information isn't correct.

Blown coverages happen in every single league - the trick is, only skilled players with high hockey IQ's are able to exploit those situations.

Did I miss something while I was mourning the Sedin loss.......has Dahlen been assigned: https://www.scoreboard.com/en/player/dahlen-jonathan/6ZezDv33/

Cheers SID - I figured a player of his calibre would be contributing on the ice somehow if not the scoreboard. Are you watching this series - is it available somewhere?

One word Retro - ADRENALINE!

Noticed OS swept London. Every game decided by one goal. JG held pointless. I'm not necessarily concerned by lack of points but curious as to why a well over ppg player in the reg season hasn't scored a single point in 4 playoff games yet with his team winning every game? Injury, tighter checking games, different deployment by coaching staff, sheer bad puck-luck so far....? Again, not concerned, just curious?

To my knowledge those comments about DP were directed at the circimstances that saw him see very little meaningful game action prior to joining us and that he simply needed to get into mid-season conditioning. Nothing more than that.

Don't get me wrong, 100pts in the WHL is an accomplishment any player should be proud of. That said, plenty of players that are not considered 'elite' as far as pro-potential get 100pts each year. I think a far better milestone (if just judging by points which scouts will tell you is often misleading to do) is the 100pt mark in your draft year - now that is a far less achievable milestone and more befitting of 'elite' consideration imo.

Word. People need to understand how much hockey this kid's played in the past 2 years. A night off now and then for whatever reason isn't going to hurt him imo. He has an entire career ahead of him in the world's best/toughest league - rest isn't going to stunt his development.
-
Why are you surprised? A SHL MVP couldn't even make one of the worst clubs in the NHL. There's no rush - this teams going nowhere fast for the time being - JB and his staff will make the right decision for his development.

Generally I'd agree with you, but watching Anaheim the past couple rounds in the post-season tells me there is still some 'old-school' hockey to be played if you have both the coach and personnel to do so. They have absolutely no problem making the other team pay a price (both the clean way and the questionable way) to get a win out of them in the playoffs. Is this style of play trending down as the kids say - probably, but it's not completely dead yet.

Henrik and Daniel say whaaaaaaa!

Agreed. As someone who's lived and insured multiple vehicles under both systems (private & public) I can say that my experience tells me the grass is definitely not greener on the other side. This wouldn't even register as news if the Lieberals hadn't been using ICBC like their personal bank machine for over a decade.
-
JB has said it since day one - he wants players in this franchise with character - this interview does nothing if not support that. "Other teams passed on me through 5 rounds - this team saw something in me and had faith in me." That's character.
-
Agree on long-shot. Would add a very, very long-shot actually. Difference is that BG played a high skill game mixed with tenacity and absolute S#*% Disturbing qualities throughout his WHL days. I don't see Palmu being that type of player at the pro-level imo whereas you couldn't envision BG being anything but a S-Disturber if he was ever going to make the NHL.

Who needs prospect recognition when you're getting all the alumni boosting?

Exactly. Rest and recuperation at the right time and for the right duration is never a bad thing for a pro-athlete. Especially one who is playing a lot of minutes in his first season at that particular level. If in fact EP is undersized as many people here suggest, playing against men in a competitive league has to be taxing on his body. Yes, he's a kid and they often seem like they have endless amounts of energy and can recuperate/recover from fatigue/injury with superhuman speed, but EP is, hopefully, going to be playing a LOT of hockey for the Canucks in the near future so let the kid rest and just play his regular league games. If he indeed gets added to the SWE roster at a later date then great - I'll be cheering for him as much as the next Canucks fan. For now however, it might be a blessing in disguise for him not to be selected - or am I fabricating a silver-lining for him being snubbed?

They (CHL) are aware of this. Several months ago I was listening to an OHL podcast from a radio station based out of London (sorry, I forgot the exact station) and they were interviewing CHL commissioner David Branch. In his interview he says that NHL teams have been asking the CHL to homologate both the way in which statistics are recorded and the way in which the stats are made accessible to the public/scouts/pro-teams/ect.... He cited several obvious difficulties in doing so including cost/time/personnel/ect.... mentioning that you are working with teams that are (paraphrasing here) essentially run like small NHL organizations with HUGE operating budgets and some teams barely operating on shoe-string budgets and on the backs of volunteers. There is definitely progress being made though, as now when you go to each of the 3 league websites you actually have a lot of continuity all the way from the web-design to the stats page. Now they have to address the actual stats that are being recorded. I think it's worth mentioning that this isn't exclusively a CHL problem as I've heard for years from various different Canucks commentators/analysts that depending on where the team is playing - they see VASTLY different statistics being recorded; and we're not just talking about differences in advanced statistics, but rather in dirt simple stats like shots on net where in one rink the a shot would be recorded while in another rink the exact same shot by the same player wouldn't be recorded as a shot on net.

At this point in time, I'd be happy if he showed signs of being able to bounce back from bad goals, let alone bad games. Don't get me wrong, I'm in Marky's corner and support sticking with him through this tough phase, but those softies are literally sinking this team's season sadly.
-
Surprisingly our PP is already top 10 in the league without a legit powerplay QB defenceman running the blueline so if we get that in the near future and EP can translate his skill to the NHL then yeah......drool......

Don't get me wrong, Gaudette has shown to be a promising prospect indeed and I really hope he succeeds with the Canucks. However, let's understand that a very small number of 5th rounders ever make a career in the NHL let alone become impact players of any significance (approximately 5-15% chance a 5th rounder even plays two seasons in the NHL). Yes, I understand that some players fall victim to the statistics and some defy them as if they don't apply to them at all. People thinking Gaudette will have a 'Brock-like' impact may be placing unreal expectations on the kid (I know, that NEVER happens around here). Realistically, if he plays 1-2 years in the AHL then becomes a serviceable player for the team after that I'd still be happy and he'd still be defying the odds of where he was drafted. As I said, don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled if he amounted to half of what some people here are claiming he'll become in the time they're indicating - but I'm just a pessimist by nature perhaps?
