Would it not look a bit suspect on the Swedish coaching staff if they didn't take an eligible kid leading their best professional hockey league in points per game to the Olympics?

Can someone clarify how the new bus will shorten the time spent on the road? Still the same distance from Victoria to PG to Brandon, no? Is this bus somehow faster than the old one? Were they walking from game to game before this bus or what? Or is it because this bus has so many amenities on it no one's allowed off of it once they leave the rink?

He'll likely sign. The fact is, despite a very small number of higher profile NCAA guys opting for UFA status, that MOST drafted NCAA players that end up in the NHL do in fact sign with their draft club. I'm not worried whatsoever about Gaudette not signing here.

My own quote directly from the other Hutton Proposal thread going on right now. He's shown much greater motivation recently after his benching indicating he's getting the message so.....

This would be a best case scenario I agree, but does the club have enough depth (considering the inevitable injuries which will occur) to shelter him in this fashion? Generally speaking, less depth combined with injuries = guys playing above their ability/experience levels which is what we've seen a lot of the past couple seasons unfortunately. I think we're approaching this depth level in the organization but all it takes is a couple key injuries and we're in the position we're in right now again? Guess you just sent him to Utica if necessary though.

Hi Aquaman, this is Gary. I don't care who you know because I own the center of the hockey universe, plus NYC, plus Chi town, LA plus anywhere else that matters in hockey and all those places got my back. So your cousins can stuff it. You and your franchise don't matter to us - capiche?

Not necessarily disagreeing, but otoh if he ends up leading his team and/or his league in scoring as a rookie then realistically is he going to fully benefit from staying over there another season? Sure he could work on the finer details of his game and overall defense and what not but if the only real glaring question mark of his game is whether or not he can play in a more physical league - does playing in Sweden help him with this? I'm not certain it does? I'm also cognizant of the theory that supports the idea of him staying in Sweden so he can more fully mature physically before exposing him to the rigors of NA style pro hockey. I trust JB will make a sound choice either way.

You must not visit this site much if any of this surprises you.

Surprised he didn't just spear his Swedish teammate and say screw you and the bet!

I'm as happy for BB as anyone else who follows the Canucks, but I've heard GM's/Coaches/Players say it many, many times - it's not how you start it's how you finish. Here's to a STRONG finish from BB!! (I would've said the team as well but if we finish strong and still miss the playoffs does it really matter:)?

I've wondered about this myself. Every time I've watched him play he seemingly lacks that 'intensity' and 'drive' that should be present in meaningful games especially when you're considered a leader on your team. I kept telling myself that no athlete can achieve what he has without a high degree of motivation/drive/intensity/focus and that it's just his nature/playing style to be calm and not show outwards signs of emotion - but I've yet to see him raise his game to that next superior level over and above his competition and take the game to his opponents so to speak - this concerns me. The true greats over the years have been able to impose their will/game onto their competition and literally take over games when it counted - I haven't seen him do this, or maybe he does it in much more subtle ways, or maybe that won't ever be an element of his game? What if he becomes 'bored' as you say when he gets to the NHL, then what?

Agreed, and going beyond just the contract situation of the franchise, people can have high expectations and be optimistic, but the statistical odds are that at least a couple of these guys won't actually ever end up being regular NHL'ers let alone impact players. It would be fantastic if they all panned out, trust me I wish they would, but looking at the odds of draft choices making the NHL people need to be realistic. https://www.thoughtco.com/nhl-draft-picks-2779293 https://www.milehighhockey.com/2014/7/23/5931789/draft-percentages

Rather have Dahlin than any Tkackfuk.

This kid just keeps producing when he's got reasons others would use not to - that's character and commitment. Really looking forward to what he'll do in the playoffs this season.
-
Jensen, Shredder, White, ect...= mistakes. No one could realistically argue otherwise. OJ = WAY, WAY too early to be calling that pick a mistake even considering his peers' respective accomplishments.

Yes it's online. Probably due to the fact TSN assumes it'll be a blowout game and virtually no one wants to watch Belarus get destroyed by Sweden except a few Canucks fans (which we all know TSN doesn't care about anyway) who are desperate to watch their saviour play any kind of meaningful game in NA.

This fact has been on my mind for a while now. Didn't say anything for fear of the CDC EP Hype-Train absolutely steam rolling me for suggesting anything but EP total domination when he arrives here lol. Personally not saying he will or won't be hugely successful in the NHL - just that the organization and fan-base should, (not referring to any particular prospect here), just let this kid do his thing. Learn / grow / develop as a player and person and contribute to the organization when he is ready and able to. Brock more or less developed with little outside pressure from the team/fan base and look what happened. But For every Brock there's way more duds sadly - it's fact. EP has great potential - let's enjoy his development and be patient.
-
Ridiculous is right. One mildly notable kid from the US holds out for FA now ppl think every other kids going to do so as well. Absolutely zero reason to think EP doesn't want to come to Van.

I remember Mike Peca vividly from his days in junior, when we drafted him, when he played for Canada at the WJC and when he briefly played here. I can, to this day, remember Bob Mackenzie from TSN during one of his commentaries questioning why Peca wasn't absolutely dominating the WJC because he was THAT dominant in the OHL the year he went to the WJC. I also remember watching the game live on tv when Peca absolutely CRUSHED Teemu Salami in Vancouver. He had a stellar Jr. career and then became an elite defensive forward in the NHL. That is a very lofty comparison Peca/Lockwood - let's hope Lockwood is anywhere near as good - if he is JB's got another gem.
-
I really haven't followed this kid so someone help me out here - if in fact he makes it onto the US squad he's going to be either a checker and/or an energy guy (bottom 6 type guy) no? He's certainly not going to be relied upon to score or play top 6 minutes - am I wrong? Not that there's anything wrong with those roles - I just want to know where he fits into the US team/system/structure.
-
How is this an interesting decision? MDZ,Hutton,Edler,Tanev,Stecher,Quads, Pouliot - Biega 8th.

LOL - sorry about that 48MPH....I know it's a bit unfair digging those up but you have to admit they are good ones to look back on, no?

Couple moments of free time at work. These gems are just from the first couple pages of this thread - pure comedy......enjoy folks.

This should be pinned to every prospect thread.
