If he indeed becomes the 'real deal' as you say (and I hope he does as well) you can bet he will be a target night-in-night-out so yeah....he can expect to be hit and he'd better prepare himself both mentally and physically for that to be a common occurrence. There literally is no player out there in today's NHL that 'never gets hit' anymore.
-
I never had issue with how hard he worked last season - rather the issue imo was how 'smart' he was working. At times, it was clear he was out of his element trying to figure out where to be on the defensive side of the puck. Quite obviously, his offensive instincts/ability are there and are at the NHL level (or pretty much there anyway), he just needs some quality coaching at the AHL level to round out his game.
-
Why does he have no number on his jersey?
-
Nice snipe for sure - but that is some WEAKSAUCE defending by that backchecker.
-
The consummate pro, Salo knows exactly what it'll take to get OJ to the next level. I'm confident in his tutelage of this prospect.

Exactly Rob. There's literally no one on the team or in the system that brings Quads combination of assets to the rink each night - yet all some people think of is flipping him for what - another pick/prospect? We don't have a single experienced, physical defenceman on the team yet somehow people think he's expendable? Down the road, if Pedan pans out (still a big if imo) and it looks like contract discussions aren't favorable then by all means reassess - but right now Quads is the type of player many, many teams are looking for (including us if he wasn't here already ) so why be selling what you need?
-
At this point in time this scenario is looking more and more plausible.
-
When the season ended last year I had him penciled in for roughly 20-25 goals and 30-35 assists this year. That imo is completely realistic with any production over and above that a bonus.
-
In a strange way - isn't it better that this happens in that league where he's going to have that split second more reaction time (bigger ice surface) and the opponents will be a notch below NHL caliber, rather than this happening in the NHL where certain guys make a living out of this type of behavior/play on a nightly basis?
-
My suspicion is that his comfort level with Green is showing in his on-ice play. He knows exactly what Green expects from him and exactly how to translate that onto the ice. He also knows that with the history he has with Green he's not going to be judged on one shift or one pre-season game. In the past, his style of play - as you pointed out - hasn't exactly matched how he was playing in the AHL (that's even taking into consideration that most all 'role' players have a diminished role in the next higher league).
-
Agree mostly, but the franchise, in my view, still also holds some responsibility for developing this player properly (which they didn't at first and I don't think anyone can argue that). Let's remember he's still a very young kid even though he's got some pro-experience under his belt he's got a LOT of learning/developing yet to do and the Canucks organization needs to recognize this and give him the coaching/mentorship that he needs to be successful.

I agree and this is a concept that a lot of people don't fully understand. In my past life I was a certified personal trainer - now since moved onto another career but so many people new to lifting/weight training don't fully understand the time it takes for not only your muscles but your ligaments and tendons to develop properly to any real long-term strength you hope to acquire. Younger people in their teens/20's rarely have that fully developed muscle/ligament/tendon strength combination that some people call 'man strength' because it takes years to fully develop. OJ may indeed have put on sheer size in terms of weight but I can virtually guarantee you he doesn't yet have the overall strength of the 25 or 30yo guys in the league that are his exact same size or even many guys that are older but somewhat smaller. Good thing is that there's no doubt, with the right diet, training and recovery - he'll definitely get there. You can maximize physical development with training but you simply can't teach OJ's elite hockey sense imo. Same can be said of Elias.
-
Just generalizing, but the only thing I realistically expect from Quads on the ice is to make any opposing player instantly regret crossing our blueline and attempting to go near our net (by being physical and relentless on them - not by fighting necessarily), and to move the puck out of our zone in a reasonably efficient manner. Anything else he does to help this team on top of that is a bonus.

The deadly WIlde/Woo PP combination lol.

SID you make a lot of sense. I'm not for crucifying this kid nor am I for giving him a pass based on age. However I'm an avid fishermen myself and regularly take my 2 nephews fishing with me (aged 8 and 12). Each one of them, in their own way, can already tell you if you ask them, why it's important to follow the 'rules' as they like to call them regarding fishing. The older one can already look up the regulations online for each region in BC if I ask him. Citing 'neuroscience' as an excuse bothers me in this case.

Huh? Lind was better than or was outplayed by Glass? I didn't get to see the game, please explain?

I understand the carry-over statisic however I don't think it's as simple as that. That was Dahlens second full season in that league on the same team(his 3rd experience with them if you consider he played games with Timra as a 16yo). He was obviously comfortable with the coaches/systems/teammates/travel/lifestyle/ect... Furthermore, Timra - whilst not an elite team in their league - was much better in their league than Utica was in the AHL. Not saying Dahlen, or any other European prospect, can't be successful in NA, just that there are many more factors to consider than just carry-over points statistics.

Entitlement vs humbleness, is there a clearer example? Let's hope it's just youthful exuberance overwhelming Goldy for now as entitlement is literally rampant in all the kids I personally know and interact with these days.
-
I would hesitantly say no, he won't be a PP guy. I see him as a #3 or #4 d-man at the very best which isn't knocking him, as every team needs those guys to be successful. CDC needs to be realistic with this prospect. Be as unrealistic as you want with Subban, but we need guys like Breeze-by to develop properly and make it to the NHL in order to be successful as a franchise.

That was crazy, he lined up for the face off at left D then blew by everyone when they were standing still! Nice set play right there.

You on CDC boy, you in da wrong place for patience.......

So essentially hope ownership/management learned their lessons from Virt/McCann.

Remember Tate Olson people - temper your expectations and you won't be disappointed.

JB said yesterday he was gunning for forwards in 2nd round so one would imagine he got exactly who he wanted. Welcome to the franchise Kole.

Welcome to the franchise Michael. Love this kids compete level. Never gives up on a play. He makes his size irrelevant with his athleticism. Solid pick to invest in a goalie.
