  1. Please name one GM who hasn't? For all we know in the past Gradin could've been selling other guys who never panned out and that sent Benning in a different direction this time. It's all conjecture despite what people think they know (you, me, and everyone else that is).
  2. People forget Quads just turned 25yo in January of this year. Mitchell didn't even have his first full season in the NHL until he was 24 - Quads already has 340gms under his belt and will get better with quality coaching and competition. Not saying Quads is going to attain any particular level of proficiency but anyone thinking this kid is done developing isn't seeing the big picture. NHL defencemen take longer to fully mature/develop - this is a commonly known fact. If Quads was drafted into a system with depth at the defensive position, it's not unrealistic to think that he'd only have entered the league on a regular basis a year or two ago and then started developing at the NHL level then - that puts his development into some perspective in my view.
  3. I'm cautiously optimistic about his potential. That said, let's be perfectly honest - he's had success on a 'farm-team' of a second rate league - a league where it's not uncommon for skilled teenagers to have success. I've heard the caliber of Swedish 1st Div compared to ECHL with no contact.....so yeah, not saying he's bust but also not saying he's getting 20 goals on our roster next season....... cautiously optimistic.
  4. Don't get your hopes up either way - a couple guys blogging from their moms basement isn't any more reliable info than CDC conjecture. Who really knows which way JB's leaning at this point?
  5. I'll admit the jury is till out on JV - and his fate/career is ultimately in his own hands, but there's a reason why Button isn't directly employed by an NHL team anymore so I'd take anything he says or analyzes with a grain of salt so to speak.
  6. Neither Virt nor McCann were completely ready yet they were thrown into the mix. But I get it, Aquaman isn't in denial anymore and it's finally 'rebuild' time.
  7. Hunter is indeed an experienced coach who could easily be in the NHL right now, but that doesn't necessarily mean that developing OJ for the NHL is his primary objective for this player. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there's anything funny going on with OJ's development. Dozens of very high-end prospects have come out of London and done well in the NHL so in the long-term I'm completely satisfied that OJ is in the right place. But realistically, if it serves OJ's long-term development to be running the PP and getting other sorts of looks during games - but this doesn't coincide with Hunter's own plan for his overall team development in London - then I don't doubt for a second Hunter would put his team needs ahead of a single player's needs if you understand what I'm saying.
  8. Sorry, not sure if I understood you JR, are you suggesting there's essentially no separation between #1-8 this year?
  9. I agree, keep kids developing at the right level whether that be in Europe, CHL or AHL - don't rush them, and let them mature both physically and mentally until they're fully ready to make the jump. That said, we know that won't happen. This ownership needs to sell something to the fans and if all they have to sell is hope, they'll do it by having kids up in Vancouver when they really shouldn't be in a desperate attempt at appeasing their revenue source. Seriously, in the past 5 years - what prospect has been fully developed in this franchise from the draft to being an NHL regular and is still with this club? I know the term 'properly developed' is not exactly exact and is open to debate, but I think we can agree - we've only had 1 excellent prospect be drafted by this club and become an NHL regular which is BoHo (and maybe Hutton as well). Other than that, we have a spotty track record recently of drafting/developing and we are in the situation we are in partially because of it unfortunately.
  10. One heart and soul performance by the boys - one game absolutely stolen by a rookie goalie - and one game for someone to step up to glory - faith people, faith.
  11. While I don't necessarily disagree with you, it's ironic (or maybe it isn't) that the architect of the Bruins cup team went out and immediately sought out size for his new team - Gryba, Kassian, Maroon, Lucic....
  12. My co-worker had two WHL billet kids living with him. They had a registered dietitian, sports psychologists, sleep advisor, and certified individual conditioning/strength trainer working regularly with their team over the course of the season. Heck, even my nephew's bantam rep-team had a dietitian speak to them during one training session and the team all enrolled (of their own choosing mind you) into an off-season dryland training program instructed by a certified personal trainer - and that's bantam hockey. Don't try to lessen their accountability - these kids know what they're supposed to be doing as far as diet/training - but they're kids, and how many kids do exactly what they're supposed to do all the time? I'm not judging Virt or any other prospect - but they know what to do and not to do off the ice before they get anywhere near an NHL jersey. It's just that the NHL stepps it up to a whole new level and they need to learn that level somehow - seems like Jake's getting there.
  13. Why exactly can't he get stronger practicing and playing against men in the AHL? I realize strength doesn't come overnight, but it'd be a start and an opportunity to show the kid where he needs to get to.
  14. Knights announcer specifically singled out OJ as having a quote, "Very strong game' this afternoon!
  15. If Utica actually made the playoffs they'd likely be facing a top seed and a quick exit. Under those circumstances, I could easily see JB essentially directing Green to give OJ some ice time. Not saying this will happen, but I could easily see that going on behind the scenes.
  16. I'm very conflicted over this series. I want OJ to have a great playoff and long run to get as much experience as he can. OTOH, I despise the Knights organization and would quite enjoy them being eliminated in the 1st round to one of their rivals. Best case scenario as far as I can tell, Knights eliminated today and OJ signs a PTO with Utica - they make the post-season so OJ can get pro-experience in the playoffs.
  17. Come'on guys, someone's gotta have that working link for us!
  18. Not gonna lie, concerns over lack of grit in that top 9. Nobody there has a remotely heavy game, and the west isn't getting any smaller.
  19. Specifically SN360 if anyone's wondering what channel to set their PVR!
  20. I think their whole team misses Quads!
  21. I think he can still be a positive presence around the team without putting him at risk of further/additional injury by throwing him in against competition that is in prime conditioning/game shape when clearly he won't be himself. The last thing he needs is some goof like Ferlando taking runs at him when he's just getting his game conditioning back.
  22. I knew Nurse wasn't top 5 but he's close enough, I just threw him on the list for reference sake. As I said, defensive specialists don't get picked high every year, but it happens regularly enough imo that it's not absolutely absurd. Not that I think OJ will be a d-specialist myself. And yeah, Gudbranson = 44 = Quads!
  23. Nurse, Reinhart, Schenn, Quads, Alzner - it doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I truly believe OJs offensive stats this year are being significantly affected by his deployment by Hunter. If Hunter didn't have other options we'd likely see OJ being utilized in a far more offensive role and people around here could calm down. Oh, who am I kidding, no one's ever calm around here.
  24. Seriously, do you need to know anything about quantum physics to make crap up about it? I don't blame these radio idiots, I blame the listeners taking anything they say seriously.
