  1. Good points being brought up for the various options. Not that I think they are on the same level skill-wise, but I wonder if Dahlens development can, loosely, be compared to Nylanders development with the Marlies/Leafs organizations? Nylander spent parts of 2 years in the SEL and parts of 2 years with the Marlies/Leafs before being a full time NHL regular. The kid looks like his development definitely benefitted him.
  2. Well, they could just ship Joulevi back to his homeland tomorrow and see how it works out !
  3. Just for clarification then, there's no speculation in my own mind. I can't/don't speak for others and hold no ill feelings if their opinion differs.
  4. Pretty much agree with you, but to me there's no speculation - it was Aquaman who made the call to keep the kids in Vancouver. Admittedly there's no proof of this nor will there ever likely be but it's a move that in its own way mimics the Linden hiring - Local legend/local kid brought in to draw interest in a team flailing on and off the ice ect.... I think your right, but switch that theory from 'marketing dept' to ownership and you're bang on imo. All this aside, Jake's playing where he belongs at the moment fortunately and being mentored by a pretty knowledgeable coach who's giving him the awareness/skills/experience he would never been able to get while being a 4th liner/healthy scratch in Vancouver. Now let's just hope Utica can get into the post season.
  5. HUGE three game series for Boeser and UND hockey. If they don't defeat St. Cloud State their season is pretty much done. http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=105845
  6. What an odd coincidence of the schedule.
  7. Put this kid on a line with Virt in Utica and get their mojo going right now. Nikolay is supposedly a phenomenal playmaker and Virt has the shot to compliment that!
  8. Boucher/Goldobin reunited - offensive juggernaut here we come!
  9. Welcome to the franchise Nikolay! Reunited with Boucher - plan the parade!

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

No need for WD to justify anything. Rodin should already know that when a team is playing well - like winning 6 in a row - they're not going to be making many changes to the line-up unless someone gets injured among the forward group. Bad timing for Rodin right now - he gets relatively healthy just as the team gets on a hot streak. For those wondering if he's going to quit on the team and leave......think about it - if he did that would we really want him on the team anyway?
  11. To me, Alzner fits the role of a physical, stay - at - home defenceman who clears the net on a nightly basis whereas we were sold, imo, on OJ being a great skating, mobile puck moving defender. Time will tell.
  12. Yes and no. Look at Burr - giving his coaches reasons to play him every night instead of sulking in the bottom 6. You can blame coaches or you can make the look foolish for not playing you more when you get an opportunity. But I agree, you don't give up on talent like OJ/Virt from a tournament that means more to the teams/fans than it means to individual careers.
  13. Being upset shows he cares, but I'd rather of seen him get furious during the game and do something to affect the outcome for his team - that would've been better than being mad in the dressing room during post game interviews. But I understand he's not necessarily the 'game breaking' type of player. So JB should be looking for those types of players.... because as it is now, well...... 3-4 seasons of increasing scoring no doubt.
  14. My 'homerism' wants to agree with you, but my realism can see he's not overrated, at least not by much anyway.
  15. I've never really subscribed to the 'tank' theory whatsoever, but this year, if we're out of contention at the TDL - I wouldn't mind seeing some turnover on the roster. Edler, Tanev, Burr, Hansen, Miller, Sbisa - all of these guys will have varying degrees of usefulness to contending teams and management should be actively engaged in discussions with said contending teams. Get what you can for these guys - exactly what they're each worth is a discussion for another time/thread. Heck, if Loui is open to waiving his NTC - JB should be listening to offers for him as well - I think the Swedish connection experiment has proven to be mediocre at best unfortunately.
  16. My understanding is that BB, at this point, is day-to-day. He could have played his last two games but was held out for 'precautionary' measures. USA Hockey would be absolutely foolish not to include him on their preliminary roster given that his injury is not that severe at this point.

That would be even better that I would expect imo. The reality is, even if Rodin comes in after Christmas sometime and shows he can produce moderate to low-level numbers (that's all I expect), who's gonna give up anything of value for a guy with zero track record in the NHL and an MVP title from a watered-down no contact Euro league?

That's plausible given the circumstances. If he was able to play pre-season but then shut-down to skate by himself for a while now - that does indeed sound like things weren't exactly as the team was letting on.

For cripes sakes JB, this isn't round 4 of the playoffs, you can give your fan-base a little more info.........
  20. Agreed. Olson was a LONG-SHOT from the get-go. For that matter, this article should be required reading on CDC: http://www.tsn.ca/playing-the-percentages-in-the-nhl-draft-1.206144 Every player thinks/hopes they will be the one to break the odds. Every fan thinks/hope their prospects will be the ones to break the odds. The odds say that every player and every fan can't be right unfortunately.
  21. Shinkaruk/Virt comparisons are irrelevant to this discussion. McDavid is a year younger than Virt - should we trade Virt because of that too?
  22. People need to temper their expectations for this kid. He lit it up on an absolute powerhouse team last year and people think he'll come in next season right from school and snipe 30g's or something. I hope he'll step in and contribute, but if he earns a spot, plays regularly each night, contributes where he can and makes improvements throughout the season I'll be happy about that.
  23. You have no idea whom I regard as "higher" so I'd appreciate it if you don't make assumptions on that.
  24. I don't care how you want to justify it - you take the two best/most experienced d off any team in this league and the level of play for that team is eventually going to suffer, likely resulting in losses where there may not have been before the injuries. Say what you want, but sadly Elder/Tanev were our version of Keith/Seabrook or Muzzin/Doughty and their injuries will negatively impact this club.
  25. I think we have to understand that 'hitting' or being a physical presence isn't exactly Edler's game, but since you asked: Edler ranks 3rd overall (tied with Sbisa) on the team in HITS/GP. Edler ranks 4th overall on the team in total hits. Edler ranks 1st on the team in blocked shots (but 2nd on the team in Blocked shots/games played behind Tanev). Edler ranks 69th in the league for HITS/GP by defencemen. Edler ranks 49th in the league for total hits by defencemen. In any event, I think the team did a great job dealing with his absence last night - time will tell if they can sustain that level of play long-term?
