  1. If we weren't mired in a decade of futility brought on by nothing other than total mis-management - I'd be more inclined to give this management group a longer leash, but as a life-long fan, this cycle of mediocrity is getting harder and harder to put up with - especially since the current management has shown ZERO signs of doing business differently.
  2. This GROSS misjudgment, along with his complete inability to adequately gauge the financial landscape of the NHL in order to move on from some of these horrendous contracts should worry everyone. These are not minor oversights, they drastically affect the entire organization in a multitude of ways and have huge financial as well as personnel implications both short and long-term. These two issues are two of the main reasons (not the only ones mind you) that make me question the competence of this group.
  3. I'm disappointed in that I don't find JR to be a straight shooter at all - there are so many contradictions between what management has said versus what they've actually done in their short time here, they don't look trustworthy whatsoever anymore. Instead, he seems like a 'suit' who's learned to tell people exactly what they want to hear at that particular time without letting on what his real motive/intent is. He's really, really good at holding pressers where the media/fans go away thinking yeah, he's not hiding anything and he has a plan....then he'll make a move(s) that totally contradict what he said he was going to do or what concern he was addressing. The list is so long - I've documented it several times in several different threads here: -said the team needs more structure and discipline and they'd be fine - absolutely nothing changed. -said this team lacks picks/prospects in the organization then traded a 2nd for a fringe NHL'er. -said they didn't have enough high end young defenceman in the organization and then drafted another winger -said they wanted to get cap flexibility - the re-signed Boeser and gave JTM an untradeable career-defining contract. -said they needed to address the defence last offseason and came back with the exact same group expecting different results -acknowledged they needed to improve the PK yet we sit dead last in the league in this area -publicly went on record saying if things didn't turn around 'hard decisions' would need to be made - then they sent a couple peripheral guys to the AHL. -backed themselves into a corner with their Captain who's having a career season and is unlikely to be re-signed leaving a potential gaping hole in the lineup How can anyone, media or fans, actually take anything JR says seriously after all these glaring contradictions in their actions?
  4. I would do this, but I suspect management's plan is do do........nothing.
  5. Thousands of people chanting 'sell' isn't the right message. Silence from a near empty area will be deafening though.
  6. I agree and disagree. NFL will always be #1 south of the border - period. Hockey will likely not even be top 5 overall. But there are pockets in the US where hockey has a strong, long -term fan base. Over one hundred thousand attendance for the battle of Michigan outdoor game proves that. One thing the US does, not unlike anywhere else, is support a new novelty team or a winning product, and Bettman knows this. If Carolina is a novelty right now (cuz they're winning, like Vegas and Seattle), Bettman will be there to exploit it, that's a guarantee.
  7. But people still have to go to the games even if tickets are free. We're not arguing profits here, but there ARE people in the stands regardless of where tickets came from.
  8. And yet they've still averaged 94% attendance capacity this season and will certainly finish top 10 in attendance at the end of the season. I'm not arguing their the most popular attraction in the area, but the numbers don't support that nobody is interested.
  9. So your saying that 50%, 30% or whatever of the entire nightly attendance didn't pay? Come on, I get that attendance there has been bad in the past, but the on-ice product has been very good for years and they're known to have one of the most creative marketing departments in the league, it's not unrealistic to think people have come around to the product there. Remember, winning sells!
  10. Actually, the fact that they can draw equal attendance to us despite hockey being the 3, 4, 5th most popular sport there says something, no? As I said, it's not the whole picture but you can't say nobody cares about hockey there anymore, at least not lately.
  11. Actually, people in Carolina have been caring about hockey for some time now. I know it's not the 'whole' story, but their attendance isn't far off ours: https://www.google.com/amp/s/theathletic.com/3973879/2022/12/07/nhl-attendance-stadium-tickets/%3famp=1
  12. Username notwithstanding, I just want to be on record that I'm NOT one of those fans!
  13. I hear you. I had numerous back & forths wt several posters here - in a mostly respectful way - I had 2 big concerns then: 1. If our defence personnel didn't change our record likely wouldn't change either. 2. We were WAY too reliant on Demko playing at an unsustainable level and if his level changed and/or injury occurred, we were done for. Their point was that we supposedly had one of the best top 6 units in the entire league and finished the season with one of the best records after winter break. Here we are now...... This isn't a 'told you so' post as much as it is a 'I hope management/ownership learned something' from this post....but I have doubts about that unfortunately.
  14. I refuse to believe, that in the entire global professional hockey community, there isn't a better option than Tocchet, Babcock, Quennville, ect..... great coach, good fit for the team and decent human being are not all mutually exclusive character traits are they?
  15. I wouldn't be against that, but I don't see it happening for 3 reasons: 1. Right or wrong, that's never been the style of play ownership likes to see their team play. Doesn't matter if it's successful or not Aquaman likes high scoring, end to end action - Trotz I don't think prefers that. 2. Trotz seems much too intelligent a hockey person, with way to many options, to agree to come here and step into this sh!$ storm ownership calls their team. 3. Word is that a coaching change would already have happened but ownership didn't want to be on the hook for paying 3 sets of coaches at the same time, and with Trotz's pedigree he likely wouldn't come cheap or short-term.
  16. You basically just described Trotz, no? Except Trotz isn't a convicted criminal douche.
  17. So your franchise is floundering in mediocrity and your move is to hire a convicted criminal with a losing record?

  18. My biggest fear with this latest development is that a coaching change will happen, the proverbial 'new coaching surge' will occur (JR himself spoke of this in the past) and we'll rise up a few places in the standings making ownership decide to yet again, make a push for PO at all costs, then the Neverending cycle of mediocrity continues....
  19. I would take that chance over remaining on the present course of indefinite mediocrity which we've been on over a decade now. At least if they make a clear move and sell off key assets for prospects/picks then fans will understand the direction. I don't think anyone knows exactly what's going on right now with this disaster they're calling a franchise?
  20. Can't tell if you're serious or not, but if that's their plan then they can't even do that right. If you're gonna tank then do it right. BoHo, Schenn, Kuz....anyone else of value goes also. You build your team around a player like Bedard, you don't just add Bedard to a 'meh' squad and hope for the best.
  21. Here's my thoughts on current management: -said the team needs more structure and discipline and they'd be fine - absolutely nothing changed. -backed themselves into a corner with their Captain who's having a career season and is unlikely to be re-signed leaving a potential gaping hole in the lineup Needless to say, my confidence in this current management group is not high.
  22. I know the author of the article is thinking this is an overpayment: Lysell, Lauko, Beecher, Craig Smith and the 2023 first-round pick for Horvat - but I'm not so sure. Seems like 'quantity over quality' to me. There's not a single young RHD in the package and the 1st is surely going to be the last in the round and one could argue it's essentially the equivalent of a high 2nd? That package doesn't really interest me. Lafrenier, Schneider, Othmann for BoHo/Schenn/Rathbone - now that's what I call an overpayment and a deal I'd take in a heartbeat.
  23. OMG, how would people feel if they managed to trade OEL................. but the sweetener was BoHo?
