Typical Treliving signing, that team couldn't win with skill so let's do this instead. -

[Report] Full list of players not given Qualifying Offers
Fanuck replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is like the annual list of high picks that busted...... -
Team reportedly isn't qualifying Dermott. Believe he will become UFA if so - but I'm not sure his status as IR affects becoming UFA or not?
-
Agreed. Hamhuis is/was underrated - if Willander comes close to developing into the type of player Hammer was (nevermind becoming a better player potentially), Allvin should be very, very pleased with that.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Noah Juulsen
Fanuck replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Using what limited, and I do mean limited, options Tocchet had available is a doesn't mean that's the best option out there - he's just the one the team can afford at the moment. You actually think if we intend on making PO - which is what coaching/management/ownership publicly say continuously - that Juulsen should be playing regular minutes on defense let alone paired consistently with Hughes? -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Noah Juulsen
Fanuck replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Juulsen has no business being paired with Hughes outside of an absolute emergency situation where multiple other options are unavailable. It would be the approximate equivalent to playing Petey with DiGuiseppe/Dries on a regular basis. -

I get it, everybody likes the local kid who gives 100% and fills in admirably when needed. But the truth is, if Juulsen is playing regular minutes outside of IR situation for the Canucks next year it means management has NOT done its job and assembled a legitimate NHL calibre defense like they said they would when the new regime took over. -
I completely agree/disagree with you at the same time. In a 'free market' if a team can't maintain fiscal viability then ergo they shouldn't exist - period. Law of the jungle, only the strong survive, eat or be eaten....yadayadayada.....Wall Street kind of stuff. By those measures you make money and exist or you don't make money and cease to exist. But the NHL doesn't operate in a 'free market system' though - they're a 'league' and therefore members of their 'league' must agree to abide by a certain set of rules/expectations that are there for the betterment of the collective. Case in point - Arizona. They have absolutely no business existing in a 'free market' but here we are.....how many years later, and they're still living off the good graces of Bettman and any BOG member he can convince to keep them in the league. I've said it numerous times before but it bears repeating - the NHL exists despite some of it's own executives/members sometimes, not because of them.

I hear you, the system flies in the face of 'free market economy' that we're supposed to be about. That said, if we didn't have an amateur draft, or something like it, the NHL would've lost about 6 or 8 franchises in the past 10 years or so and that's on top of the teams that relocated. Small market teams wouldn't stand a chance in today's economy. The NHLPA also understand that they'd lose hundreds of obscenely high paying jobs for their members if franchises folded, so they're Ok with the draft I'm guessing.

Let's remember, he's absolutely revelling in the fact people are talking about him on this platform. He's said it before on the air - any press is good press.

I think the only consensus on this kid was that he was one of the fastest risers in the draft. His second half was stellar!

Not offended my friend, I just don't see what other ppl see in the prospect pool I guess. I also don't see any d-man from Abby making the team next year if we had an actual NHL PO level defense unit under contract. Barring a drastic turn of events, we need to take a d-man imo.
