  1. Last I checked Benning and Gillis have the same number of cups as acting Canucks GM's and both left the franchise in disarray and completely barren of prospects. They're more alike than people want to admit sadly.
  2. That would be the natural fit, wouldn't it. It's enlightening to see how some teams have organizational succession plans while we have, well.....
  3. I have my doubts about how Rathbone will adapt to the next level but I'm perfectly fine giving him the opportunity to learn and develop and find out. The other guys are, at best in my view, lower depth/call-up players if they even make it that far. This organization needs 'quality' defensive prospects that are legitimate NHL players in the making, not guys that we 'hope' can turn into regulars if everything goes right. I look at an organization like LA, no surprise led by a former defenceman, and it's absurd the quality of young defensive depth they have and they're beginning to utilize those assets accordingly. Build from the net out - and we already have a franchise goalie, so....
  4. We're about to trade the best power forward this franchise has ever had other than maybe Bert - because we have ZERO defensive depth in the system and nobody to play with who's already on the roster - maybe we should consider a d-man this draft?
  5. This worries me. He's already acquired him on two separate occasions - I hope it's not 3x. I don't see Kap/Marino as our answer. I definitely don't see what others do in Marino, especially not the Tanev comparisons. I watched every minute of the Pens PO this year and while Marino was definitely serviceable, he wasn't a standout in any respect - and I know that's not his game, but still, Miller should get us a WAY better pkg than that.
  6. How about: Sign Malkin for 2yrs/8mil then immediately place him on LTIR. Ride Demko's back all season then activate Malkin the day before PO......amirite?
  7. Anyone's 'movable' if you have the necessary assets to do so - which we don't unfortunately.
  8. Don't get me wrong, it'd be a blow, but more beloved players have been traded from this organization before and we survived, if barely.
  9. I know this is a little simplistic analysis, and in reality it's a bit more involved, but what this roster tells me is that it's virtually the same as last season, and last season's roster simply wasn't good enough. Kuzmenko is an unknown but benefit of the doubt and say he's a 15pt or so upgrade on Chaisson. Rathbone is going to need time but again, benefit of the doubt and say he fills Hunt's spot. Then Martin replaces Halak and that's hopefully a slight upgrade too. As I said, virtually the same roster and we are banking on Miller equalling a career year and Demko bailing us out every night to stay competitive. I understand people will point to the 2nd half record and say we're a playoff team, and there'll be improvements from within (Pids/Hog) and such? Haven't even mentioned the lack of any meaningful prospects in the system or the succession plan to upgrade the d. I see significant changes forthcoming (Miller trade) which address both size/skill/youth on d and forward.
  10. Boeser, Demko, Huggy, Petey, Miller.... Benning must've had 'some' clue at least.
  11. I hear you and I'm not panicking . But what does concern me is that we were WAY too reliant on Demko night in/night out. That's simply unsustainable and needs to be addressed. If he has even an 'average' season next year we're done for without substantial changes elsewhere in personnel and/or team structure. Signing Boeser is great, but in the big picture it doesn't improve us it 'maintains' us to a point.
  12. Clearly this is the prelude to a mega Miller deal. It's quite obvious.
  13. Exactly, these guys know nothing more than the average fan. They're not insiders to any 'real' information. The only thing they're 'inside' is gullible fans heads.
  14. Give and take from both sides clearly. If he could Crack 30 g's Allvin did well.
  15. I'd do it in a heartbeat because we'd be robbing them blind. Laffer played well, very well in PO and showed, in my view, why he was a 1st overall. Schneider, given his age/inexperience still didn't look out of place and will get a lot better. I suspect they're open to parting wt Kakko because his development has flattened a bit and they're selling before everyone figures out he's another Puljujarvi. Question is - is he?
  16. Kakko, Schneider, 2nd. I'd do it, unless another team can get us into top 5 position this year plus young assets.
  17. This guy had a career year on a team where almost every top 9 forward had career numbers - he's s free agent 'cautionary tale' waiting for a desperate GM......be wary, very wary in my view.
  18. How long should an NHL franchise 'rebuild' take you ask:

@Coconuts So our farm system isn't in that great a shape after 7 years.  Much like what it was like after Gillis was canned.  And even the home run hits were trending/developing the wrong direction prior to JR being the GM (and hiring coach Bruce) save Hughes.

We never did a rebuild in the JB era. Now new management is in a tough position. Rebuild properly or re-tool and try to become competitive in a couple of years. They going with option 2 which I think will be a mistake. Unless we can flip Miller for something good like a 2nd OA, Kakko+Schenider/Chytil+Krav, etc.

  19. Some GM wants to give us the equivalent of Forsberg + I'd be Ok wt that
  20. Miller >>>>Fiala in pretty much every way. Age factor to me is negated by his PO experience and intangibles. The only ??? for any team interested is dollar/term and when is his decline going to onset?
  21. Not sure I'd do it either, but imagine JR contemplating the potential of getting the next 'Crosby' for this organization? That would be tempting.
