  1. Having personally spent quite a bit of time in Ottawa, this is a pretty big deal for their hockey community and the general community at large. People like to criticize Aquaman and his family for this and that, but they've never been shy to invest in the infrastructure of the Canucks' organization when they needed to, and have ensured they keep community ties open and positive - that's not the way it is in every NHL city.
  2. Allvin/JR can, and should be able to do better than this. We need young blue-chip roster players (a center and/or a RHD) and high picks in return for Miller. I still say there's deals to be made with a team like LA. They have virtually all of their picks (or someone else's) in every high round for the next three drafts and the have a log-jam of blue-chip RHD that won't all be able to play at the next level because there's no natural roster spot for them. I'm not against retaining on Miller since it's only for 1 year, especially if it facilitates us getting exactly what we need - but a hard no on retaining on players with any 'term' left.
  3. I'm not saying don't kick tires on this guy, but I'd be careful, very careful. He had a career year (literally tripled his goal production from his previous best) on a team where every player in the top 9 had career years offensively - this doesn't happen often - his numbers are likely going to be greatly inflated. He made what, $1.6 and change last couple seasons and he's in his prime earning years for his type of player - I'm guessing he's going to want to cash in on his 21g season with a team who thinks he's going to improve on that number - and I just don't see it myself. Like I said, kick tires for sure, but be wary of the 'outlier' statistics.
  4. JR's consistent message since completing his evaluation period is that this organization needs to get more picks/prospects into the system. I see Miller getting those picks and/or young roster players on ELC or close to it (because nobody is going to give you the equivalent roster player in a trade for Miller) while other assets (Boeser/Garland/Myers/etc) are the straight up hockey trades.
  5. More possibilities to contemplate: https://www.sportsnet.ca/article/analyzing-potential-trade-partners-if-canucks-decide-to-deal-jt-miller/?fbclid=IwAR0TI4tNSdgosLI7C4fmGuDLyvl946omaj88hHSBhLouwJWR9ejv84KGAcA
  6. Let's be realistic with our expectations with this player people. Let's see him in camp and go from there. A lot can be determined by the shape he shows up in camp.
  7. Would be nice, but no guaranteesout there. It could easily go: Wright Slapshotsky Nemec Jiricec Cooley Remember when we were almost certainly ensured to get PLD?
  8. Shame that the NHL and its BOG would entertain welcoming an individual with a questionable history into their organization when other leagues like the NBA have said good riddance with people like Sterling.
  9. Call me old skool, but I'm against 'promising' guys anything other than a fair shot to earn a spot.
  10. Depends.... Definitely no to any retention on OEL whose contract runs for 36 more years seemingly. But if a team said we needed to retain 1.5 or 2mil for 1 season on Miller in order for a deal to happen where we get exactly what we need back - I'd make that work if I was Allvin.
  11. If Allvin/JR can get value like we did out of Schenn then great. If we get suckered like Dickenson/Poolman, then we'll.....
  12. I'm not ruling this possibility out myself. I don't think it's likely, but I'm not saying it couldn't happen. If he re-signs here then two things have probably happened and a third thing will occur after that. First, Rutherford has decided that the years you get value from his contract will be worth suffering through the years where there will be inevitable decline (despite a certain number of people here trying to convince us all otherwise - there WILL be decline in performance during Miller's next contract at some point). Second, Miller has decided that playing in Canada, with the same team he's been with for the past 3 seasons will be a good place to raise his family and continue (perhaps finish) his career despite taking a lower value then he could've earned through UFA. Third, at least one (if not two) of BoHo, Boeser or Garland are not here much longer as there would be zero cap-flexibility - something JR has emphasized since day one.
  13. To me your scenario isn't that likely Alf. At this stage in his career, with his competitiveness level, I don't see him taking the money and wasting the remaining years of his career on a bottom feeding team being a non-relevant player. Way more likely in my view is that he gets traded to a team that's close already and needs him to complete their roster and who intend to re-sign him. A team that has an abundance of picks in the minors who will not likely contribute to the window that is opening for them now, and/or who are buried under guys that aren't going anywhere anytime soon. That's why the more I think about it the more I see LA as being a pretty good fit. They're on the rise, if Doughty wasn't injured it's arguable they could've beaten the Coil and with Brown retiring they've got a gaping hole (and cap-space) in the forward ranks. One could argue they've got Byfield ready to step in, but is he that ready? He's certainly not at the Miller level that's for sure, and they've got several RHD prospects that are stuck behind Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Spence, Walker, ect....
  14. So he's better than Gallant/DeBoer? What's going on there McCrimmon?
  15. Not sure I'd go for that package - at least not before exhausting any other options. It looks like a bit of a 'quantity over quality' scenario. I'm thinking a team like LA could better that package if we were looking at something like: to LA: Miller/Rathbone to Van: Clarke/Turcotte
  16. There will be teams who view him as the piece they need to complete their contending roster and they will be motivated to sign him. Look at Vegas when they targeted Pietrangelo - regardless of how that scenario worked out it demonstrated how a team can target a need and acquire it despite existing cap limitations. Hundreds of comments in this thread about this team can't do this or can't do that because of whatever reason but did anyone see Vegas as a legit landing spot for Pietrangelo given their cap situation at that time?
  17. Miller's next contract will potentially be his last - his agent is going to be advising him to get 'paid'. He might take a bit less than market value if it's to a legit contender that has (or can make room) for him so he has a chance to win. He might sign for market value with a team that's not a legit contender but is trending in the right direction and could contend within the term of his next deal. He likely won't sign with a team that's not a contender nor has shown anything but 'flat lining' as an organization for a decade. People can guess which category certain teams fall into.....
  18. He's gonna be the Swedish Lidstrom.....wait a second......
  19. I'm not certain why it's been pre-determined already, but Allvin said he'd be playing in Sweden next season.
  20. No, the PGA cannot determine who can/can't play in the 'majors' as they are not owned or operated by the PGA, they are separate entities wholly owned by independent organizations who can do as they please in this regard. That said, you can bet that the 'old boys club' aka the PGA is lobbying hard to get their fellow 'old boys' clubs aka the 'majors' organizations to see things their way and ban the LIV players from their respective tournaments. Unfortunately, in the case of the Masters for example, this will be difficult as any previous winner (Mick, DJ, Reed who are already under LIV contracts) has a lifetime entry into the tournament. I've found the PGA stance on the LIV organization and their human rights issues quite hypocritical as for decades the PGA has aligned itself closely with the Masters tournament and essentially supported them as one of their own, yet the entire entity that is the Masters tournament is rooted deeply in racism and sexism to it's very core, one could argue the Masters were founded on these principals, this is well documented and common knowledge in the golf world yet conveniently overlooked as the wielding of a green jacket seems to override any past mistakes.
