  1. He got to see his son live out his dream, as a father I can say that would be my own dream to see my son succeed. Best wishes to the entire Boeser family during this tough time.
  2. Sad, he was in some iconic movies from my generation.
  3. Let's see this kid in Abbotsford for a season before we project anything.
  4. Jagr can't seem to stay out of the news, got T-Boned in his EV:

I don't think anyone looks at getting into a crash to generate publicity.

Glad he's alright according to that article.

Kia EV6 did a great job protecting him!

  5. I can't see that happening because of the implications of the legality of the games he has been playing with Edmonton in the meantime. Both LA & CGY would immediately launch grievances against the NHL/EDM for ineligible player use in the playoffs. What could potentially happen is an arbitrated buy-out where if it's determined Kane was unjustifiably terminated SJ would owe him a portion of his contracted salary but he would still have been considered a UFA when he signed with Edmonton. Otherwise every game Kane played with Edmonton could potentially be under dispute. The question if Kane was unjustifiably terminated and owed salary would be whether the NHL applies that money to SJ's past and/or future cap?
  6. Heaven forbid you try to contradict somebody around here who has some kind of social media post backing up a completely fabricated rumor from some supposed insider lol, they can become irate....it's laughable how gullible some people are and how seriously they take these people who's primary job it is to simply generate 'hits and clicks' for their sites.
  7. JR did say 'non-emotional' difficult decisions may need to be made. That would definitely be in that category - not that I would support or favor that whatsoever.
  8. I think people need to be reminded (not speaking to you flick), that if a Miller deal goes down, it doesn't need to be a RHD coming back. That area is obviously of immediate concern, granted, but this organization is void of blue chip prospects at virtually every position including, believe it or not, goal. Centers - we need them. Wingers - we need some especially if BB/Garland are traded. Defenceman - definitely need more quality assets: despite people's hopes there's no guarantee Bone pans out at the next level. Goal, Considering Demko himself took 5 or 6 years to fully develop it would be wise to look for a quality young prospect now rather than later in my view. Would a Schneider or a Clarke be a great add, no doubt, but this organization needs assets everywhere meaning many, many teams are potential trading partners.
  9. The problem with studies like the one you mentioned is that they all work on statistical averages where they design some sort of formula that equates draft position to games played and on-ice performance. Where it falls apart is that they're saying 10th to 6th is equal to both 4 Thatcher Demko's (who was a 2nd round pick) or 4 Kole Lind's who was also a 2nd. I'd take the equivalent of 4 franchise goalies in a heartbeat whereas you'd have to pay me extra to take 4 Lind's. Those 'studies' are interesting for sure, but often fall short in reality when real players are involved I find.
  10. I'm all for adding 'sandpaper' and all, but if you're telling me that this player is a questionable human being - ill pass. You can't tell me that there aren't 'truculent' players who are also stand-up people both on and off the ice.
  11. People put, imo, far, far too much weight on what these supposed 'insiders' post. The overwhelming majority of what they post is total speculation, and that's fine, except that many people take it as 'truth' and use what they post as supporting evidence on whatever argument they are making - that's my biggest issue with the 'bloggers/insiders'.
  12. There's no reason whatsoever to think there'll be a poor return imo. Giroux, a pure rental and a lesser player at this stage of his career than Miller, returned Tippet, a first and a third. Tippet was a top 10 pick so the trade was essentially two firsts and a third which I think most people would take in any Miller deal, at least I would anyway. Again, find me anyone who can argue that Miller isn't superior yo Giroux? The only likelihood in this scenario is that no matter what happens people will complain one way or another.
  13. I'd typically agree but there's always deals that materialize which nobody foresaw - not unlike the Hamonic/Ott deal. And yeah, there's almost certainly talks going on that no one is privilege to as you mention. To me, JR has already let the news out when he announced to the hockey world that if Miller doesn't come in at a number he likes then hard decisions will be made - that essentially means sign our offer or you will be traded.
  14. Why does a team, or a specific player, need to be 'linked' to Miller in order for a deal to happen?
  15. Even Giroux who was a pure rental and a far lesser player at this stage of his career than Miller got more than what you're suggesting, way more. We're not getting Lafrenier, plus a 1st plus a blue-chip prospect like people thought a few months ago, but we're certainly not going to settle for a second pairing d-man in a one-for-one, that's a joke Alf and you know it.
  16. I've been saying LA for a while now as a logical landing place for Miller for many of the same reasons you mention - except I'd be targeting Clarke and their 2nd. Makes sense in terms of both team needs and cap situations of both teams. We don't need these multi-player trades involving 3 different organizations like CDC loves to make up nor do we need to rob another team blind like CDC often suggests to make any deal fair. Keep things simple: Miller to LA for Clarke and 2022 2nd round pick.
  17. I would take Clarke and a 2nd without hesitation. LA needs exactly what Miller brings, they can afford to re-sign him, and they're loaded on RHD.
  18. Acquiring a guy like Vilardi needs consideration. He's an RFA and we no longer would benefit from any ELC years which in today's NHL economy is like gold. I could see our previous regime being all over an already-developed player ready to step right into the line-up next year, but I'm not so sure JR/Allvin prefer that route. They've both spoken at length about specific team needs and the barren prospect pool in the organization. JR has expressed a desire to acquire additional picks as well. If Miller is traded I don't see the package not including pick(s) of some kind as well as a young roster player on ELC or not yet in the pro's. In a post I made a while ago which coco outright stole from me in his proposal ( - relax, I'm kidding, sort of) I suggested Miller for Clarke and this years 2nd. If that doesn't move the needle for JR/Allvin I'd do the same package but try to get LA to include either Helenius or Pinelli to fit our young C prospect organizational need.
  19. We can address our RHD by doing Miller to LA for Clarke and a 2nd this year. Meets both teams on-ice needs and works cap-wise for each. There's no room for Clarke on their right side and we have zero depth on d.
  20. Both Chiarelli and McDavid acknowledged that money was left on the table and that McDavid indicated he signed for less money so the team would still be able to ice a competitive team. The exact amount that was left on the table is debated, but I've read anywhere between $700 000.00 to $800,000.00/year for the length of the contract which equates to over $5 000 000.00. https://www.businessinsider.com/connor-mcdavid-contract-per-year-help-oilers-2017-7 https://globalnews.ca/news/3576695/edmonton-oilers-connor-mcdavid-contract-extension/ https://www.sbnation.com/2017/7/5/15923678/oilers-sign-connor-mcdavid-contract-extension-nhl-free-agency-2018
  21. If we didn't have cap issues and a barren prospect pool - no doubt Miller would be re-signed here, but that isn't the case unfortunately.
  22. First order of business for Blake - trade Clarke for Miller.
