  1. Former player and now a highly regarded head coaching candidate who has never been at the helm of an NHL club, now expected to do something with an under-performing squad - sounds like I've heard this story before.
  2. They were gifted a competitive team and we all know why - sadly for them there was only really only one way to go when you're given a 1st place team - down. They traded away the wrong goalie in favour of keeping/pursuing flashy 'big name' players who they thought would take them over the top. Somewhat anticlimactic that their organization/fan-base never really got to enjoy the ride up the standings - I used to resent their organization for being 'gifted' what they got but now......well yeah, I still resent the NHL for doing that who am I kidding.
  3. Price, because who is dedicated enough to fly to hockey practice on a plane?
  4. Won't support NY because eff them for '94 and screw you Mess. Can't support Car b/c DeAngelo is a pos of a human. Go FLA sadly.
  5. I don't really like the proposal wt Det because I'm not a fan of downgrading the teams overall skill level just to target a team need - we simply don't have the organizational depth to do a move like that imo, instead may I suggest looking at LA? And may I suggest going big? When the dust finally settles there they'll realize they're going to need to add to their forward group to compete with the other PO teams in the west and they are deep with RHD. Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Clarke, and Grans - they don't have room for them all and have their own team needs. I'd go Miller for Clarke in a one-for-one straight up hockey trade. I think the value is there for both clubs (unlike most CDC proposals which require us to rob the other team blind in order for it to be fair).
  6. I doubt they fire Dubie and I doubt they rebuild. They lost to the 2x defending champs in a close series. And I wouldn't want any of those TO assets mentioned in the proposal - any Miller trade should be able to return much better than that. Adding a cap-dump will a Miller trade negates any value so that's a no in my view.
  7. If Barzal is average then sorry to say, so is Petey. They both produce at somewhat similar rates overall in their careers so far, and yes, I'd say for Dobson, what he's done so far in his short career, he's elite for a 22yo defenceman.
  8. Give us your young, elite stars, and take back our average forward and a rental - sounds about right for CDC.
  9. No, simply because I have no interest in helping an organization that was 'gifted' a cup-level team and then effed it up.
  10. Zero interest in Fiala becoming a member of this organization. He strikes me as a punk who likes to instigate but will never back it up. Also, he seems like the kind of player who disappears in the PO when the going gets really tough.
  11. I really liked the way that JR presented the situation at his end-of-year media availability. People here likely already saw it, but he said what you two are saying essentially - that every player regresses, the question is when and how much they regress and would the years they stay 'elite' be worth the years they regress? I also liked that JR was blunt and said the numbers need to work for the club, if not a non-emotional decision would be made. I understand JR's comments to translate to, "We have an internal number in mind, if we can't get to this number he will be moved".
  12. According to this he still calls his childhood town in Switzerland his hometown - says he is still very fond of Bern.
  13. That's not an insignificant investment and I can understand the hesitancy. I'm wondering, would one make up the difference in initial investment with a reduction in operating costs over time, and how long would that take do you think?
  14. What about Kane with that flying elbow last night? Or Kassian with the cheap-shot cross-check to the back? I never knew how dirty the Coil were until I saw their true colours come out last night.
  15. I'm really surprised it took him this long to decide to go back home? I guess the dream of getting back to the NHL is a powerful one. Wish him the best of luck - I'm sure he has some good hockey left in the tank.
  16. Got this one last year and it did a great job during that July heat wave: https://www.costco.ca/danby-14%2C000-btu-ultra-quiet-portable-air-conditioner-with-voice-control-and-rapid-cooling.product.100715465.html I won't cool an entire house/condo obviously, but if you are strategic where you place it, it works.
  17. Right, I completely forgot about Askarov - he's supposed to be a blue-chip prospect as well.
  18. Sorry to derail the convo but the Rangers could sure use that 'vezina' calibre goaltending right about now - he's going to have to steal them a game or two if they have any hope of staying in it. I thought Marky was going to have a dip in performance without Clark guiding him but he proved me wrong - he might be better now than he was with us. Smashville keeps finding these great goaltenders - Saros is a 4th round gem!
  19. I remember watching Marleau playing for Seattle Thunderbirds as a 16yo phenom and Chara for the Cougars as an import rookie. Man does time ever go by fast.
