  1. They recently beat the Bruins in reg. and took TO to overtime, they can play well when they want to. This is no gimmie by any means.
  2. I'm just curious who exactly is the UFA target that will fill the top 4 RHD that will sign for $5milAAV that isn't on the very wrong side of 30+ years old? I'm not trying to be critical, I just don't have a clue who this could be? https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/free-agents/2023/caphit/all/defense/all/desc/right?signing-status=ufa
  3. This is purely for marketing purposes. While wealthy by 'normal' standards neither of these two individuals have the kind of wealth that would even register with the NHL and their majority owners.
  4. https://www.tsn.ca/claude-julien-head-coach-team-canada-men-s-world-hockey-championship-1.1787047 Question is will we make PO and if not how many Canucks will be at this tournament?
  5. A proposal on CDC where we get the best player on the best contract yet again, what a shocker!
  6. I disagree with this philosophy. Look at the step back we took losing Toffoli/Marky/Tanev for nothing. We simply don't have the organizational depth to continue losing high caliber players let alone a potential MVP level player like Miller for a 'hope' of making the PO. Where would we be now if we recouped solid assets for those UFA's we lost for nothing? If we were real contenders I'd say risk it, but as we all can clearly see, we're nowhere close. We can't afford not to get assets back if Miller isn't re-signed.
  7. https://www.tsn.ca/nolan-baumgartner-under-18-hockey-canada-1.1785606 I didn't know tht Baumgartner was the assistant coach at the Olympics:
  8. Our minuscule odds of making the PO are saying that this is a 'must-win'. I have to believe them since numbers don't lie, right? We can maybe lose two games the rest of the season and still maintain our minuscule chances, and Arizona should definitely not be one of them. GCG!
  9. Doesn't matter, it's still 100% speculation that Fiala was the one being offered in any deal. Kuzma made that part up - it's not debatable it's in the article.
  10. It may or may not be a fact that a team called about Miller - I don't follow social media much so I have not heard Allvin nor JR confirm that the Wild specifically made a trade offer for Miller - and I highly doubt they'll every confirm or deny that. It is certainly speculation that Fiala was offered in any potential trade - Kuzma completely made that part up - there's no 'fact' to back that up whatsoever. This thread is based entirely on speculation - that is the only 'fact' about it.
  11. This entire 360 page thread is based on speculation and it didn't get locked.
  12. Allvin can qualify Boeser if he wants to retain his rights, that'll give him time to work out the cap-implications. I see Miller and at least one of either BB or Garland traded (maybe even a D-man, Pool/Myers) this off-season or before the next TDL so there's potential to create the elusive 'cap-flexibility' Allvin and JR have been referring to so often. Additionally, it's clear with the example of the Hamonic trade that there are other options to create cap-flexibility if/when necessary - in that situation Allvin essentially halved the cap hit from Hamonic and replaced it with a comparatively competent player. I don't see having to explain to Miller or anyone else why he takes a 'friendly discount' as I don't see Miller (or BB at that QO cost anyway) here long-term anyway. I agree it will be interesting to see what Allvin does, but I think he has a lot more options than people think he does.
  13. I'm sorry to derail this thread somewhat, but Quennville should never work in the NHL ever again. He was complicit in ruining a young man's life. He was in a position of authority and leadership on that team and I don't think anyone believes him when he says he didn't know what was going on.
  14. I also suspect he's got some nagging health issues. Just as I suspect EP did at the beginning of this season as well. That said, Brock is a competitor, we know that, he wants to be with his teammates and wants to contribute to the 'push' - really hard to shut that spirit down if your a coach.
  15. Part of me hopes your right that there's a path to PO somewhere/somehow. The other part of me is like: higher pick = moooaaaarrr better.......But then I realize we'd just lose the lottery anyway so PO or bust, right?
  16. Day-to-day 'undisclosed upper-body' injury. Specific return unknown.
  17. This is exactly why even if we run the table it likely won't matter. Every team close to us in the WC standings aren't going to tank the rest of the season.
  18. BB said before yesterdays game that BB was skating, but wouldn't play vs. LV. From the tweet I saw there wasn't any further info than that.
  19. Is he great though? Or would he just be better/cheaper than what we have other than QH?
  20. Worst case scenario, they just qualify him and have his rights for another year (I believe that's how it works). Then under your scenario he'd still bring more in return as a rental at the next deadline (like Copp). If everything everyone says is true, and I've heard this a lot when Allvin was announced as the GM, he (Allvin) is an incredibly smart person who is capable of 'thinking outside the box', that's one of the reasons JR liked him - he likely has several scenarios he can fall back on with regards of what to do with Miller/BB/Garland/Myers/etc....
  21. Copp got Wpg quite a bit more than that and he's essentially a pure rental. I think Allvin could do better than a 3rd or 4th for BB. Say what you want about his upcoming contract, but the fact is in any regular length season, Brock is a perennial 20+ goal scorer, that's higher value than a mid round pick imo.
  22. I dream of living debt-free, is there something wrong with me.....?
  23. I don't see NYR interested in BB. They need a play-driver, not a back-seat driver. That might sound harsh, but I don't think anyone can say that BB drives play. Also, maybe I'm being too presumptuous, but in my view Winnipeg's 'window' is long gone. That's how fast your time comes/goes in today's cap-dominated NHL. As such, I don't see them interested in trading PLD. I think they targeted PLD specifically so he'd be there when the current core is done - which might be sooner rather than later.
  24. That was pretty blatant and uncalled for. I don't have an issue with this discipline.
  25. You're looking at this too narrowly JM, I don't see many people saying Miller himself is the problem - at least I'm not saying that anyway. I keep hearing over and over that Miller is a fantastic player that many teams would be lucky to have - but for how long is the question? Signing a 'not young' player to what would essentially be a career payday to a long-term contract which surely will be both buyout-proof and attached with clauses is the problem - not Miller specifically. Signing Miller doesn't fix the issue you already identified which was the situation JB left us in - completely void of any depth in the organization at any position. That is to say, we have virtually NO defensive depth in the organization. I know people are hanging on to the Rathbone hope but that's no guarantee - beyond that there's nobody who's going to make meaningful contributions down the line. At forward, we lack any real 'blue-chip' prospects let alone middle-six guys or grit. Overall our prospect pool has got to be one of the worst in the league - that wouldn't concern most people if we were a perennial contender like we were under the Gillis regime where we had to sell out the future to stay at the top, but sadly as we all know we're a mediocre club at best and we're not going to get better signing Miller in my view - the best we could hope for under that scenario would be to stay mediocre. That said, I'll admit, if other assets (Garland/BB/JR/ect....) could be identified and liquidated to fill other needs, that presents options as well but creates new concerns at the same time.
