  1. If the club comes back next season essentially the way we are constructed now I'm not interested in following and definitely not interested in spending money on the team - been there, done that, came away disappointed. Management/ownership are you listening? There needs to be change, meaningful change - not Hamonic/Dermott level change but real change. I'll try to stay optimistic because it seems like you get it (gm/coach change) but there needs to be a sign that the changes aren't stopping there?
  2. This is sad news. As someone who watched his entire pro-career on TV (only saw him live twice during the playoffs in '82) even I knew as a kid this player was something else. I effing hated the Isles in the 80's, but Bossy, he was a special player.
  3. Definitely not just you. Call it what you want, ownership pushing for playoffs at all costs, fans theoretically not paying for tickets to see a 'rebuild', having to overpay to lure veterans to a mediocre club, poor judgment on the GM's part, terrible pro-level scouting, or just plain incompetence - but whatever you want to call it, it has NOT worked and it has been painful to watch at times. For every bright spot (Demko/EP/Miller) there have been set-backs (LE, Beagle, OJ, ect...) and they've been enough to keep this club in a state of constant mediocrity. But, and thankfully there's a but, that was the previous regime. Remains to be seen how this current regime will address the deficiencies of this club - and sadly there are many deficiencies.
  4. I know what you mean about finding players in the draft that outperform their draft rank, but I'm not sure the Lightning are your best example - they found some gems in the draft but they also have a first overall and a second overall as franchise players on their team for the past decade and a half.
  5. The retool in my view needs to be substantial, and if done right, will likely result in this club taking a step back (in the standings) in order for us to take several steps forward in a few seasons' time. You're not going to make 'lateral' trades so to think that Allvin will trade Miller for another Miller-type player at that stage in his career is foolish; therefore, one could assume if Miller (or anyone else for that matter) is traded we're going to be getting younger/cheaper/good draft picks - as a result, we're not likely going to be as good until those assets mature. Additionally, if Miller is in fact traded, people need to get over this one-for-one idea where if we don't get a player back that eventually ends up as good as Miller we've somehow lost the trade. If we get back two or three players/assets that eventually, when developed, add up to more than the sum of what they were traded for then in my view that's a win (for example, if we got a legit top 6 forward and a top 4 d that contributed to this team for the next 10 years on reasonable contracts that's a win in my view) - combine that with addressing team needs, adding cap flexibility, and not being tied to a boat-anchor contract is yet more win for the club long-term. This team needs substantial changes - if you don't agree with that I'm not sure we've been watching the same games the last week or so.
  6. 2010-2015 LA Kings is a great example of how to build a team Alf - Doughty, Pearson, Toffy, King, Clifford, Forbort, Quick, Kopitar, Brown, Voynov, Martinez, Lewis were all drafted players and developed 'in house' by their franchise. Williams, Richards, Gagne, Carter, Mitchell were great 'adds' to the core of the team later on. We need to be mirroring this plan imo - draft the bulk of the team and develop them ourselves, then add to it once most of the players are 'developed' and ready to compete. As we've seen recently, we're nowhere near there yet despite what the BB era tells us.
  7. The SHL obviously hasn't been paying attention, If that was the NHL they'd have just 'rigged' the relegation games so their flagship team(s) got in (Bos/Tor/LA/Chi/etc) lol....
  8. Just saw Beagle lose his mind vs ANA.  Where was that fire when he was here?

Physical play has always been part of the game.  I am all for the league calling penalties to keep things in check so that the skill elements of the game can still be exhibited, but the ability to both initiate and respond to physical play is part of the game too.  Showboating or doing something that may be perceived as attempting to embarras an opponen is an easy way to get a target on your back.

The crosscheck on Zegras was hard but, as others have pointed out, it's something that he should have expected digging at the goalie for the puck in a 5-0 game.

I personally do think Beagle went over the top in his repsonse to Terry considering he never actually saw Terry drop the mitts.  I imagine Beagle assumed he was being challenged to a fight considering that he just gave a hard cross check to Zegras since that's typically what happens.

I think the commentary by Tyson Nash about the Ducks "skilling it up" and then getting beaten up was part of the whole thing being overblown.

He's on an expiring deal. He's looking for one more NHL contract before calling it a career.

  9. If we are to believe Rutherford, he's not interested in trading away high picks - he wants to use them to build the future of this club. Things change and now Allvin is in the picture, but in the article (below) he specifically mentions not trading away high picks. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-jim-rutherford-ready-to-get-aggressive “How we’ll look at this in the future is we won’t trade high picks. Anytime we’re making a deal it’s for younger players and we’ll try to bring this team, really make it stronger over the next couple of years, to where it can start to be a regular playoff team.”
  10. I realize why people do this - set a trade demand and then qualify it with 'nothing less' and I'm not criticizing the practice. But in my view it is FAR more productive to set a 'parameter' of what you're looking for in a potential deal instead of identifying 'exact players/assets' that you will accept or there won't be a deal made. For example, instead of saying Lafreniere/Schneider/Chytil-Kravtsov/1st or nothing (which puts you in a position to not get a deal done) management would be much better off simply saying the ask is "blue-chip young roster forward, blue-chip RHD on ELC, top 6 forward, and a high pick". This way you have a lot more flexibility when dealing with other GM's around the league who may have interest, but not necessarily the 'exact' pieces you mentioned.
  11. To answer your question, no - not interested in 'full tank'. And to add, if we wanted to tank, all Allvin would have to do is trade Demko and we'd be done like dinner.
  12. The worst part of the NHL reffing situation is that while we all can accept that they'll make mistakes sometimes - the entire review process is kept under complete secrecy - there's ZERO transparency or accountability to fans or teams. This process does not build trust with the league - in fact it builds mistrust against the refs and the league itself.
  13. I'm not sure what the exact plan is or how Rutherford/Allvin will get there, and I wouldn't believe anyone who would tell us they do know. That said, one can look at the state of our franchise and surmise a few things. For example, Rutherford/Allvin have both said publicly numerous times that this club needs cap flexibility. They've also said this club needs to get younger. Additionally, they've said that they would like to keep and/or accumulate more picks, not trade them away. Finally, they've publicly said (or at least Rutherford has said) that this team needs a 're-tool' not a 're-build' and that it should take about two seasons (one now that this season is essentially over as far as mid-season transactions go). On top of what was said by management, it's clear to anyone following this club for that past several years that this club lacks any real 'blue-chip' prospects - and I'm talking at any position - our prospect pool is full of potential depth guys and/or long-shots with boom/bust potential. Taking all of this into consideration the big picture is that a significant trade (involving Miller/Boeser/Garland/ect....) could potentially solve almost all of these concerns at once. Not to beat a dead horse, but a Miller trade could result in: getting younger, huge cap flexibility, acquiring high pick(s), acquiring 'blue chip' young players/prospects, and facilitate a 're-tool'. Re-signing Miller would allow us to retain a great player don't get me wrong - but several of the aforementioned parts of the 'greater plan' that Rutherford/Allvin have said become much, much more challenging - not impossible, but very difficult in today's cap era.
  14. Rangers are exactly the situation we are trying to avoid here. They're going to most certainly lose Strome due to cap issues. That'll leave a huge hole at center/forward for them. They already had to 'give away' Buchnevich due to their cap and he's going to end up nearly a point/game this year for STL. They'll likely be trading away Georgiev for scraps as well this off-season due partially to cap issues(and yes, I know he wants to play more) and Copp/Motte are pure rentals for them. The Rangers arguably haven't even entered their real 'window' and they've had to get rid of guys (or will lose key pieces this off-season) - this is what happens if you are a top-heavy payroll team - you can't sustain the payroll for the mid/bottom guys. Probably why a team like CGY went absolutely all in - they're going to have to make some very, very difficult decisions this off-season as well. I know people want to re-sign JT bad, and I fully understand why, I just haven't heard a logical plan from the re-sign JT folks that allows this team to have both cap-flexibility and meaningful depth to the organization - not to mention how are we going to get younger and more skilled on defence and become a 'contending' team within 2 seasons as Rutherford said was the ball-park plan?
  15. LOL.....let me trace this.....unknown source to Friedman to Daliwal to Twitter......must be legit, right?
  16. Sad news. Love that band. Just watched the replay of the Fighters in Glastonbury the other week and decided to learn 'Everlong' on my acoustic guitar. Gotta feel for Taylor's family and friends. I know he was Grohl's best friend.
  17. Deserved call-up, nice to see management recognizing hard work. Sends the right message to everyone.
  18. These look great, the artist Chase Gray did a fantastic application of his art on this medium. I wonder what they'll cost? I read the last special warm-up jersey price caused some controversy?
  19. I'm getting bell-notifications for threads others post in.  I didn't subscribe to these and they're not quotes or mentions?
