Funny, multiple people have reached out to me to tell me how toxic the local media are and what a breath of fresh air it has been since they tuned them out.
Don't get me wrong RW, I agree there needs to be some difficult decisions made here. And we likely need to take a step back in order for the entire franchise to take a meaningful step forward. But I don't feel trading away picks is the way to go. At the risk of triggering a certain portion of CDC, I believe separate deals involving JT and one of BB/Garland could provide a substantial return upon which a legitimate retool could occur. The logistics of said deals can be debated ad nauseum, but the gist is to sell high and target team needs while restocking picks & prospects.
I see a Debrusk-type scenario where he signs below his QO for whatever term that takes him to UFA, then the team gages the market and moves him for whatever reasonable offer presents itself at the right time before his extension expires.
Verbeek and Ducks ownership - not afraid to make tough choices that take a step back to facilitate moving the entire franchise forward. And no, this isn't shade at Aquaman/JR - different markets, different priorities.
And that's the entire argument in a nutshell, if you sign JT to a market-value extension, better prepare to gut your depth and not be able to improvethe defense - and by that what I really mean is Garland, he's fiesty, no?
Don't know what it is about this player but he's never impressed me - average size, average production, doesn't stand out on special teams, not insignificant cap-hit, then there's the public trade request.....
It may not be the Dermot sweepstakes but rather the Miller sweepstakes. After the Hamonic deal, you just need to find a taker for one of BB/Garland and you've essentially covered Miller's extension, IF that's the route you want to go, but the issue is you're already chipping away at the little depth we had by doing so.
