  1. Is Tim THomas to the Islanders old new or new news? I forget now if that was an old story? He is not signed yet but they have his rights until tomorrow i guess. EDIT: NVM i see it is old news
  2. Totally KC and I was thinking Northern California too, I know San Jose is there, but Oakland? perhaps there is a market just north of Oakland for an Oakland team?
  3. MSG NEWS 2013 Frenzy Edition: The Rangers have been busy in the opening salvo of the Free Agent Frenzy, and while Madison Square Garden News could not independently verify names and dollar figures, we have learned that GM Primal Optimist signed off on 3 serious offers, and word is leaking out that one may have been an offer sheet targeted towards a Western Conference team's RFA player.
  4. Think of three nights in Vegas and for 3 hours of that your at a Canucks game! Woooooo!
  5. I have a couple ideas, one that is overlooked a lot for some very good reasons, I think is viable for very good reasons: Wynn might want to put a franchise and an Arena in Las Vegas. If not him, then some other billiionaire casino owner. The casino props up the team, the team gives another venue of things to do in Vegas and when the arena is empty it can seat 18,000 fans for the top touring acts int he world to hit up and do a 3 night set in Vegas. There are downsides, but it would be a destination away game for 30 other teams fans which would keep it in the black while as i said earlier, giving another reason to come to vegas and spend more money at the hotels/casino's owned by the same guy that owns the team.
  6. I suspect you will have your wish inside the next 730 days. There are two more teams out east than out west for a reason. My bet is as soon as Phoenix is settled, look for two franchises awarded for the 2014-15 season, or possibly dribble in for the 15-16 season
  7. I really like the way this was handled this season, we can't all drop our RL stuff to fire in offers at midnight, so the monday to friday window is superb planning by the exec. Thumbs Up.
  8. The Rangers would like to offer GM Squeak congratulations on the announcement last night. I understand Commissioner C2X was in attendance at Glendale city council and received a rare standing ovation from the gathered crowd of fans, and opponents, while the city ratified a deal that will bring in new ownership of your Coyotes. edit: The rumours of the 'Yotes moving full time to Quebec City must have been nerve wracking for you.
  9. I can almost hear 29 keyboards being overworked right now. haha. Happy Canada Day to each and every one of you! Enjoy it, I know I will.
  10. 11. for arguments sake, how many teams would have use for Schneids? 9 or 10 right? most teams have their starter and have him for a while, generally speaking. So those specific 9 or 10 teams that 'could' use him maybe 5 or 6 of which may have been interested in cory for their specific futures..so those tire kickers, maybe they knew Gillis, and most likely did know, was in a corner from the moment AV pulled Lu and went with Cory and simply weren't willing to pay the price he was worth, because they knew eventually there would be a fire sale and they stood a 20% chance of getting Cory cheap. He is not the best goalie in the league, and he is not the cheapest goalie in the league and he is not the youngest goalie in the league. He is a legit starter with a lot of skill, but I think in the end the 5 or 6 options on where to move Cory simply held Gillis by the throat until he choked up Cory Schneider. nothing we can do about it as I believe truly it was lit by AV in a game situation and fanned by ravenous media and fans until it engulfed Canuck Nation. At least now its more or less extinguished. EDIT: also do we fire MG over it, and taking into account the new CBA changed the situation dramatically. Lu's contract was okay prior to this lockout shortened season and was managable, one way or the other, but with the new CBA moving Lu was harder than smuggling plums. in the end, I believe that people get better through learning from mistakes. I don't want a CEO who has never made a mistake running my company, i want a CEO who managed to rise up despite his mistakes and shortcomings and who has a wealth of knowledge learned from those very mistakes. I think our favorite teams owner has made a fortune by allowing people to learn from mistakes and incorporating that into corporate knowledge. I am with MG, but I admit that he may very well be on a shortened lead from here out for a few years. He is certainly on the right track with this years draft crop.
  12. Yeah it was a turdsandwich, no matter what end they took a bite out of, it oozed with yuck. I think if they were thinking of moving Cory last year then yeah they likely could have gotten more back, but do we know they were not shopping corey and simply not getting what they thought they could for him?
  13. I think everyone agrees we sold Cory extremely cheap, but you have to admit it was a fire sale because frankly, MG had a massive forest fire to put out in the crease and it was intensifying with the heat. Not the best solution imaginable, not by a long shot, but a solution none the less, imo.
  14. I understand the reaction to the trade, absolutely, but I agree with OTTS. The goaltending situation has been alleviated, we got two great draft picks in the first round, some depth up front and a rocking all around good defense and we have our core. 100% the goalie situation was absurd, and there weren't many options available or they would have been taken. In the end, MG did what he should have done all along which was stand behind his contract with Lu, and stand behind Lu, shipping out Cory for what he could get on the market. With the cap the way it is, we couldn't get a contract on the market that was worth getting because we can't afford to pay it this season, and the ninth overall pick is okay by me in a draft year where that ninth pick would be a top five in any other year. I have heard some disturbing tales that perhaps Lu is scorched but all i have seen from Lu is no comment to press types and then a tweet #NOtradeclause. The rest is rumour and hearsay until we know better, i imagine we will hear sometime this week.
  15. Ahhh that explains a lot, i tried to check for every missing name from all 7 rounds today and no luck, but i was tired by then too. I will search last years and update the lists in the morning. Best of luck in free agency folks. The draft was immense fun, and i love doing it a week early so we can see the outcomes ..oh what a difference a day makes, and a week!
  16. On the up side, even Cory said that he really appreciates having been mentored by Lu and now by Marty..two of the ultimate best canadian keepers in the league. "Yeah I took over ffrom not one but two gold medal winning olympic goalies." has a nice sound to it. Cory will be the new face of the devils franchise in very short order, and as was eluded to by some twitter comedian named strombone1 maybe next contract he will push for a #NOtradeclause.
  17. 8. (*20*)NY Rangers (via Phoenix) - Anthony Mantha 47. (*56*)NY Rangers (via Dallas) - Marc-Olivier Roy 49. (*49*)NY Rangers (via Ottawa) - Gabryel Boudreau So here in New York we would have taken Bo Horvat 10th, but he went 9th..and we honestly thought Mantha was not going to be available by 10th. So I feel lucky, and I want to congratulate Squeak on a great draft, being as we are all Canuck Fans. I quickly picked Roy at 47th after my target was picked just earlier, and so when canuck2xtreme asked me to flip him for 49th i collected my wits and selected my next target. Gabryel Boudreau, from what was off the page according to the sports writers. Turns out though that San Jose Sharks agree with me, as they took him at the exact same spot. So lucky or foolish, who knows and time will tell: but I got Mantha and Boudreau combined within 2 picks of where they went in the NHL draft. ; )

  21. Jensen, Gaunce, Horvat, Shinkaruk in the pipe, I bet we see 2 of them this year, possibly all four for at least a few games. Tanev is still shaping up very well for the back end. Me'thinks we go Dman/goalie with the next couple
  22. I might just be the only fan on the boards right now that loves how this lockout season has gone. Bye Bye AV, Keeping Lu, got a fantastic young centerman in the system, cleared out some cap space, brought in the most entertaining coach in the league today, and one who has a cup and a Jack Adams (*jack adams not won by his allstar goaltender either, suck it AV)..and many more awesome bits to my fanyear. #GMMGplayinforkeeps
  23. It is still a fact that Luongo has ten goalies with higher cap hits than his and by september it will be 11 and by next september it will be 15. Eating his 5.33m this one year of tight cap space gives you Luongo calibre goaltending at leage mean/average price for years. Cory's 4million is a steal and drives his value sky high, I don't blame MG for holding out for the ransom price. There is always a fallback position later.
