  1. I am tempted to try to increase the number of self drafted roster players I have from two to about a third of the club, 7 or 8 guys, but that means less trades over time to basically hang onto my prospects longer. Arguably I should have done that earlier to be in a better spot today, but I consider my time in GML until around 2017 as 'the learning curve' haha, followed by three years of trying to get up near compete levels for the East, now that some windows seem to be closing though, I expect big things for the Blueshirts in the coming years.
  2. I was thinking that must be a big part of the idea, use picks as assets to gain targets outside the draft. Took coffee number two to catch up to that one, haha. I think it will be successful too actually, but seems the more picks you draft with over a two year period, generally, the longer it will take to realize results as in getting into the playoffs after the first of the two draft years. Meh, overthinking it, I know. The biggest upside to a shotgun draft approach is you have a much higher chance of one of those random 34th overall superstars for 18 years in the league kind of guys. It has its appeal.
  3. I have seen some teams with a vey long list of draft picks, and I am sure it is a good strategy for some to tear it down to the wood and rebuild and rewire the whole house, but I have questions. Just how do you finish the strategy? Presuming you have 25 draft picks over two years: that means you have 25 twenty one year old's under contract in a few years, leaving just 25 contract spots to ice an NHL level club. Not saying it isn't doable, but of your 25 youngsters there will be a pretty large chunk of 'busts' and 'cuppa coffee guys'. pretty much half your 2nd round picks and 2/3rds of your later picks won't make it, one in four of the first round won't make it either. So I see it as a shotgun approach of sorts, where you generally aim at the target and pull the trigger and a certain % of your shot hits the target while many pellets just sail on by. I would be afraid to try this approach becuase paring down the roster to 25 playing pro's and 25 kids over two or three years sounds like a very hard thing to climb out of in year 5 say, when you come to the sorting hat moment of realizing 8 of your draftees are worth having and the 25 NHL'ers you have aren't that hot due to being sold off previously for picks. It is interesting, and daring of course to try it, I am interested to see if it works, looking at a handful of GM's lately trying it so it should be fun to see play out over time. Just an idle thought for a wake up cup of coffee here in Madison Square Garden. This post is just an idle curiousity, I have no care in the world about the teams with lots of picks, I find it interesting and wish you all good luck in the draft! (and I will say, it seems the kids these days are much better scouted and prepped for the big show, so the odds are probably better for the 2020 draft class that this chart suggests, at least for the earlier rounds. I suspect the 2021 class is not as deep though, due to covid evaluations are all over the place. In any event, draft night for the first round will be a fun fun fun time and hopefully my household has no medical emergencies for the 2-4 rounds the next day! EDIT: I am certainly not claiming my method is better by any stretch, clearly my club is in the have not column for many years, so I am aware i suck, haha, but looking at the various strategies this one has its advantages I think in the here and now, with back to back covid interupted seasons, if your going to flip the deck, now seems to be the time to do it, so good for the guys who have steered it there, I just don't know that I could pull that off successfully, but it would be awesome to have that many picks: the draft is the biggest fun for me as I go all in on scouting about 100 players via the internet leading up to it.
  4. Welcome to the CDCGML BCNate, it's a keeper league so my best advice with 1sts and stars, keep em. These sharks will swap you a popped inner tube for yerr gramma as a welcome gift, if you let em! Haha But if you need to make some adjustments hit me up at the intermission! P.O》
  5. Assign: The New York Rangers Assign Casey Mittelstadt recall: The New York Rangers recall Rasmus Kupari. rushing, sorry.
  6. Thankfully YES! Credit where it is due: IMO Myers had a great game last night. No complaints. lol
  7. puck hoped over his stick last game in the Ozone near the blueline, puck left the zone, was retreived by canucks, passed to 57, 57 gave it away and 19 or 20 seconds after he couldn't keep it in the ozone, the opposition scored. That was goal one or two of the evening. Goal 4 against the canucks had 57 on his knees near the corner, having just lost a battle without the puck, whlie he was getting off his knees, his check scored from alone in front, about a 6 foot shot on net. Will be watching again tonight, but I am hopeful we get a new loook for this game or two.
  8. 4-3 Canucks!! WITH LUCK JOULEVI GETS A GAME IN!!!! Myers looks tired, could use a rest, lol. missed an Ozone pass that left the zone last game, 19 seconds later on the clock the opposition scored. then on the fourth goal he was on his knees near the corner having lost a battle without the puck, whle his check scored from 6 feet out in front. Again, just thinking he could use a seat for a game or two, while Joulevi could really use some game time to continue to build up his skills to the NHL level we all want to see and expect from him!
  9. I don't wanna be a bouncer that gets punched in the face by two guys fighting outside the club, but I do hope that we can all stop trying to make this WWE Fantasy Sports Entertainment (*although now that i type that, it does sound fun) let us all just get back to our fun little teams doing our fun little trades and not let language and irritability get in our way? Covid time has put everyone on pins and needles, I suggest we give some grace where it is needed and move on to funner things. I will miss you Bomba if you decide not to come back, so please do continue to play the Blues. It is a better league with you in it.
  10. *assuming Braden Coburn cleared waviers, the following transactions Waivers: New York Rangers waive Scott Harrington to be assigned to the Lake Cowichan Lakers. Recall: The New York Rangers recall Braden Coburn from the Lake Cowichan Lakers
  11. Waivers: The Vancouver Canucks waive Matt Calvert to the minors. Recall: the Vacouver Canucks Recall Alexander True from the minors.
  12. Every time I see you post his name I say loudly in my head, "Rrrrrrriiiiicooooolaaaaaaaa!"
  13. Assignment: The New York Rangers assign Rasmus Kupari to the Lake Cowichan Lakers Recall: The New York Rangers recall Michael Rasmussen from the Lake Cowichan Lakers
  14. Assignment: The Vancouver Canucks Assign Gavin Bayreuther to the minors. Recall: the Vacouver Canucks Recall Alexander Carrier from the minors.
  15. One last reminiscing post: WILB, gone but not forgotten. The only GML GM to die in office. Rest in Peace. Really makes any subtle rule changes seem incredibly insignificant.
  16. I didn't record everything at first, but my team history now records all the events I think are relevant to the Rangers historical notes. My first recorded trade was I have since gotten a little more anal, lol. My more recent trade that has been announced in thread (several more coming) and I have recently seen via the team history that the player with the longest tenure as a Ranger is: Connor Murphy, and we are so happy to still have him here! it is a rich history; One year our goaltender of great reknown actually scored a goal and THAT little nugget of 99 points or so put us just over the top and into the Playoffs. As it was and is our only post season appearance, the fans still remember it fondly while arguing over the issue of firing me or my coach from time to time. ; ) EDIT: Looking back in the dead letter files of the Fantasy Hockey section, GML 11-12 I was listed as the Rangers GM already and thatMike was listed as the SJS GM already... did i join in 10-11? It would seem it has in fact been a full decade! wow. Time Flies when you are having fun. This post from the 11-12 season makes me pretty sure that it was my first season with the Rangers. Looking for a hiring post to confirm. IN the meantime, I think this was me posting what I had found to be the Rangers inaugural draft results from year 1. haha, Aha, I had the sharks around November 2011, and the Rangers by th end of that year. I am up to speed now. lol, making notes at the bottom of my team sheet so i don't have to search in another decade. Huh, so this was the day, eh Sharpie? OMG Sharpie, that quote above was a ban you got before you even recruited me into the GML!!! LOL....I thought it was the long one, but nope. I know this because i just found my hiring to the Sharks post. I officially joined GML on September 18th 2011. Yay me. Best I can find is that after March 6th of 2012 is when i joined the Rangers, and they finished that year 4th worst, I think. Three days ago i was 5th worst. Progress!! hehe. AHA April 9th 2012 I took over the Rangers, solved!
  17. TheMinister is a great guy, he's gone a little quiet lately, but likely busy and as was said, staying out of the fracas. I don't blame him, I was pretty loud to him at stupid things I don't remember about, oh hey, how the league was going, lol. I feel in reminiscing that I owe you all an apology for historical drama. I have since come to realize the error of my style. Also, I have a good therapist now. Rofl. Edit: a large part too is the incredible time sink I learned it is to try to manage a league when I experienced the EKL. It is a lot on the best days, the worst ones must be horrible. Here's to more great days ahead!
  18. How many cups did you ride that Pony to? Not just the one, I don't think?
  19. I think I got here after Romo, seems to me he was here when I got here, that Mike took overSJS from me, so he came in after me, OH and I just remembered Sharpshooter recruited me out of Canucks Talk! Before the nuclear option happened with his account, lol
  20. I took on the SJS first but as a replacement GM, "RQ'd" and came back as the Rangers, "RQ'd" again and realized I was being crabby and apologized and rejoined before a new GM was hired. Been here ever since. Love the league, love the people, love my team.
  21. Then how the hell did I end up with Hurleys good looks and one day about a decade ago I woke up on this island off the coast AND here in GML? Huh? And who peed a little in my Gonch? Oh nvrmind that last one.
  22. Rangers rise 4 or 5 sp0ts in a day and it stands to reason with my luck, the league implodes as a result. I am sure, all things being equal, I will fall back down again, would that appease the hockey gods and we can keep this bus rolling down the transcan?
  23. Contract Termination; The New York Rangers request that Filip Chlapik's contract be voided as he has signed with the Pelicans in the Finn Liiga. https://www.en24news.com/now/2021/03/pelicans-acquired-filip-chlapik-who-played-in-the-nhl-the-sm-league.html Mr Chlapik is a decent player who gained our respect in the club, we will miss him however, this opportunity to play over in the Finish Senior Mens League will give him an added boost to his career years, and give him a chance to thrive playing the sport we all love, now that his North American opportunities have seemingly dried up.
