  1. When people start hallucinating about offer sheets, they need to read this ^ and hopefully sober up. I don't even think I'd do it for McJesus. We'd end up like the Coilers but without Draisaitl, RNH, Nurse, and Bouchard - and unlike them we know we AINT winning lottos.
  2. Someone just tell me right now, as I don't have time to invest in the season, are the Jays going to be good or not this season ?
  3. That's some bush-league Slapshot shenanigans right there.
  4. Exactly. People act as if a 20yo kid can't improve in virtually every area of his skill-set if he puts in the work and receives the right coaching.
  5. People comparing Hughes to Dahlen and even taking the ridiculous next step and suggesting Hughes is the far superior player need to give it a rest - Dahlen was not only the undisputed #1 overall pick, he's had a rookie season that's completely lived up to his billing - in other words he DELIVERED on all of his expectations. This isn't like a year ago when they were both unproven picks - Dahlen has proven he is/was the undisputed #1. Hughes hasn't set foot on the ice as a professional hockey player yet. Do I hope he's good when he does - no, I hope he's GREAT, but I'm not such a homer to suggest he's better than Dahlen when he hasn't proved a dang thing yet at the NHL level and Dahlen is essentially stealing the Calder away from EP while nobody's looking. I get people naturally favor their own (in this respect Hughes), but to deny that Dahlen is the better player while Hughes hasn't even worn a real NHL jersey yet is far from just favoring their own player, it just makes everything you say lack any credibility whatsoever.
  6. If/when Hughes arrives i fully expect him to get a long, long leash. As you mentioned he's going to be thrown into arguably the most difficult position to play for a rookie and while he has all the skill in the world he's not physically on par with the average NHL player so let's realize that as well. People say the NHL is not a developmental league but something's got to give there because I don't expect Hughes to do the equivalent of what EP did here - I expect him to need some development.
  7. There seems to be a HUGE disconnect between what Utica management is saying publicly and what Petrus said in this last interview. Not trying to cause controversy here but the two sides are saying completely different things. Johnson says they had good conversations while Petrus is saying he doesn't understand why he never played.....?
  8. No, I'm not surprised. The only thing I'm surprised at is that it took this long for something of this magnitude to happen on as big a stage as last night. If the Nevada Athletic commission and the UFC are serious about making the UFC a 'mainstream' sport - we'll see repercussions on the scale of the recent Wilson suspension in the NHL. Consequences by the governing bodies will determine how seriously (or not) they take this incident - they have the perfect opportunity to send a clear message - let's see if they do or not?
  9. What exactly is/are these lists? Looks like they're a year old(17/18), or am I reading that wrong? Are they trying to say this year's predicted rank based on last year's stats?
  10. Scroll back to pg 15 in this thread. Fanuck beat you to pairing those guys, but yeah you can be prez!
  11. Dude, you stole that from Fanuck - he said that ages ago !
  12. My intent with the Lind/Jasek example was with reference to Fanuck's point of how people completely underestimate the jump from CHL to pro hockey. Lind dominated Jr and struggle as a professional while Jasek did very well in NA - essentially because of his pro experience imo. Relax everyone, I believe Lind and Woo are fine prospects and Jasek is right behind them.
  13. Jasek did fine under the exact situation you described.
  14. Jesus-H Fanuck.....it's Friday afternoon. Get out of the house.....or on second thought, maybe you'd better stay inside for a bit.
  15. Today was definitely more like what we expected to see. Good sign for sure.
  16. Don't get me wrong, nice hands indeed, but equally impressive - in a bad way - is the poor quality d-coverage on display in that clip.
  17. Then they'll just match the rest of the season .
  18. Careful there, while Richmond is in BC, it is not BC in and of itself.
  19. Recently (since about 1990) the first overall has about an 80% chance of becoming a player for you. This drops to about 54% once you get to 4th overall (numbers are relative to who/what is calculated and the metrics to define what a player really is but this is a reasonable ballpark figure). Surprisingly (or not ) it's really all over the board statistically when looking at which pics consistently produce quality NHL regulars but yes, overall the higher pics pan out more often. As for how often a 4th ranked kid actually gets picked at 4 - I've never seen that analysis probably because there are too many different ranking agencies/supposed experts to get consistent consensus draft order rankings I'm guessing. https://www.tsn.ca/statistically-speaking-nhl-draft-pick-value-1.786131
  20. I can't speak to the strategy of the Swedish hockey selection process but the precedent of not taking BPA (and a successful one at that in hindsight) has been set before. People cried foul and sketchy politics the year St.Louis, Giroux, Thornton, Seabrook, Neal, Letang, ect, were all left off the Canada roster as well. I think taking BPA is actually not the optimum strategy for short, single elimination game tournaments like the Olympics and the past history of the Canadian roster selection process more or less supports that to a degree. We all want EP to showcase his skill-set and get both recognition and experience but really, would rest and a bit less hockey be the worst thing for him right now?
  21. Yet he's destroying proven franchise players' scoring pace in the same league they established them. Sorry, I believe the kid is making a statement contrary to yours.
  22. There might be a chance BB gets hot again, but even if he does people don't quite understand that the NYI are the 3rd highest scoring team in the league while the Canucks are the 26th - even if BB gets help, Barzal's going to get his points too, and so are his linemates. The onlyway I see Brock keeping pace is on the PP.
  23. No. Don't get me wrong he'd be an amazing addition to the core, but they'd still need a big, physically dominant, versatile centerman/forward imo. No slight on BoHo whatsoever but he shouldn't be the one counted on to go head-to-head with the Benn/Kopitar/Laine types of the league, and JV's probably not that guy either. PLD would've been that guy and JB knew it.
