  1. Jacob Markstrom, the sieve. One thing we can truly be "thanks, Jim" about that we got rid of him, what is he .875?! Single-handedly giving the Oilers the series. Again, Sutter needs to make him sit.
  2. Really, really glad we kept Demko now. A healthy Demko never puts on a joke performance like that last night. Markstrom can be a bit of a sieve. Sutter should sit Markstrom until further notice. The Oilers must be defeated at all costs and the Flames have a very, very capable backup tender.
  3. This is insanity. You are suggesting sending JT Miller to a divisional rival??????? Sending him to Vegas?? Seriously??? The rest of the OP is great but I don't relish the prospect of Vegas and Miller destroying us every time we play them.
  4. Hey Alf, 'sup? I firmly believe that the reason no Canadian team has won the cup in 29 years is because it's meant for us. Canucks meant to be the first to hoist it. And I do believe our time is soon, very soon indeed.
  5. Not a chance in hell, unfortunately. The Kings cannot keep up to the juggernaut that is the finely-tuned Oilers machine. Was pretty confident that the Flames could oust them but not after how commanding Edmonton has been in the playoffs so far, while the Flames have looked pathetic and unable to score anything. McDavid is on a mission and will settle for nothing less than the cup for his team (goes off to vomit now).
  6. OK, let's look at things objectively, Canucks fans. Hear ye, hear ye. The Oilers are playing the best hockey they've played in 32 years. They look on par with Colorado and Florida. The Flames haven't done anything yet to suggest they won't get out of the first round. So, our arch rivals, the Flames and Oilers, are playing the best hockey they've played in decades and look unstoppable. Wouldn't you rather Toronto be the Canadian team to win it all rather than the Flamers or Soilers? Edmonton is playing at other worldly levels right now (Remember how they dismantled Colorado in that last home game). I'd much rather see the Leafs in the SCF than those 2 scumbag teams. And, honestly, the Leafs look OK right now but the Oilers are playing like soon-to-be Stanley Cup champs, which is terrifying. So, Go Leafs Go!
  7. The Flames are heavy, heavy favourites to win the Stanley Cup this year according to the experts. One of the best teams the NHL has seen in a long, long time. Markstrom, once again, according to the experts, is the run-away for the Conn Smythe.
  8. 538 projects the Stars to finish with 96 points. If we win all 4 remaining games, we would finish with 95 and Dallas would just have to lose 1 point that 538 is projecting to them for them to fall to a tie with us, in which case we win the tiebreaker and get in. Vegas has a 3-game road trip to end the season and they play Chicago in an emotional back-to-back after defeating or losing to the Stars. Either way, Vegas will be in full let-down mode for that Chicago game. They lose that Chicago game (and no way are they beating the Blues at home next Friday), then it's game on. So, it's an extremely uphill battle yes. I'd freely grant that but the door is still cracked open. All of this is premised on my belief that we will defeat Calgary tonight, though. If we lose to Calgary in any fashion, obviously, but especially if we lose 5-2+ again, then we don't deserve to make the playoffs and a very strong case can be made that the Boudreau recovery after the Green firing was just a mirage. I always knew we'd lose to the Wild but if they lose to the Flames too, well then they deserve to be burned at the steak and management should have free reign from FA to disassemble and construct a new team as they see fit. In that case, JR and PA should go to FA and threaten to quit if he doesn't give them permission for a full-on retool/fire sale/rebulld/etc. The game against the Flames will show who this Canucks team really is. I'm just arguing let's wait until the results before crucifying them. Of course, if they defeat the Flames but lose to the Kraken the way they lost to the Senators, they still deserve to be burned at the steak. I'm just saying, let's wait and see is all. By this time 24 hours from now, we'll know exactly what we have and exactly what we need to do. Edit: I believe they can still make the playoffs but if they don't and JR, PA and FA try to sell this as a successful year that requires few if any adjustments, I will be right there with the howling mob going "WTF?"
  9. ABSOLUTELY SICKENING TO READ THIS THREAD. MAKES ME WANT TO VOMIT, REALLY. What needs to happen for Canucks to make the playoffs with 4 games left | Offside (dailyhive.com) WHY ARE SO MANY ON THIS BOARD EAGER TO WRITE THE CANUCKS OFF THIS YEAR AND EAGER AS HECK TO SEE THE BOYS NOT MAKE THE POSTSEASON? IT'S HONESTLY LIKE PUBLISHING AN OBITUARY FOR SOMEONE JUST DIAGNOSED WITH STAGE IV CANCER AND OPENLY PLANNING THEIR FUNERAL, WHEN PEOPLE HAVE SURVIVED STAGE IV CANCER AGAINST THE ODDS BEFORE. GLAD THE PEOPLE ON HERE AREN'T MY DOCTORS OR MY FAMILY MEMBERS. THE MINUTE I GOT THAT DIAGNOSIS, THEY'D TELL ME I WAS DEAD AND TO START PLANNING MY REINCARNATION. 4 POINTS OUT OF A PLAYOFF SPOT WITH 4 GAMES LEFT WHEN WE'VE SWEPT THE SEASON SERIES AGAINST THE STARS, WHO WE ARE CHASING. CAN WE AT LEAST SEE HOW WE DO AGAINST THE FLAMES TOMORROW BEFORE THROWING IN THE TOWEL? CAN WE AT LEAST DO THAT?? CAN WE?? I guess, this is a poor 'ole pathetic team and shouldn't even play in the same building as the Flames, Kraken, Oilers and Kings huh? No chance to pull out victories against those mighty colossuses. Must be pure fantasy to think we can beat any one of those teams or to think we can put a 4-game win streak together. We haven't had a 4-game win streak or more all season. Oh wait... The problem with this team is now clear. A toxic fan base who riots after 2 epic Stanley Cup runs fall just short and eagerly writes obituaries for a team just 4 points out of a playoff spot with a week left. The culture that the fans are breeding in Vancouver makes it impossible to build a winning team and makes us undeserving of a Stanley Cup. Once we stand behind our team for a change and don't riot if we lose, maybe then a Cup will finally come to Vancouver. Also, I have no problems with discussing retooling and adjusting the team AFTER AND IF WE ARE MATHEMTICALLY ELIMINATED. I'm not so much saying that we will make the playoffs as I am saying it's disrespectful to have posts like these until we know for certain either way. And if not disrespectful, definitely shows that the posters don't believe in the Canucks franchise.
  10. Just have faith. As long as the Canucks are right with God, the refs won't be able to steal games away from us, no matter how hard they try. Think of the refs as Satan, who have a master plan for our Canucks but God has a master plan also and the better plan, and God always wins.
  11. Yet another "coincidence" linking this team to 2011. Something else happened that year besides Dan putting up those awesome numbers, IIRC
  12. This game will be a lopsided loss in regulation, but we will defeat Calgary on Saturday night. Fleury owns us whereas we're due against Calgary. We will then go on to sweep Seattle and LA, and the game against Edmonton will help to settle the standings.
  13. I will remember exactly where I was for the rest of my life when I saw Sportsnet break the news on that fateful Sunday night that Bruce Boudreau was our new head coach. I instantly became a fanatic believer, after being indifferent or even wanting a tank, as soon as I heard his name associated with us. Bruce saved the Vancouver Canucks. I had a strong feeling we had just gone from a tailspin to on our way to being one of the best teams in the NHL
  14. Further to your point, the only reason we are fighting for our lives right now is because we lost to bottom feeders Buffalo twice, Detroit twice, and Chicago once
  15. 538 has them up to 19% tonight. Highest since the March homestand debacle!
  16. The New Jersey Devils are leading the Vegas Golden Knights! If we win tonight, the playoff drum beats ever more louder baby! P.S.: Over my Horvat meltdown. I've concluded his triumphant return will turn a playoff series around for us that we weren't doing so well in or that we weren't making the playoffs even with him in the lineup in the worst scenario.
  17. Congrats, Provost. You were right, I was wrong. Canucks are done with the injury to 53. You won't be posting a positive thread in November either about the 2023 playoffs, not with Boudreau likely walking at the end of the season along with Miller, Boesser and, perhaps, Horvat also. This season was the last season of competitive Canucks hockey, above .500 we will see in years. The hope was to get some playoff experience, maybe take that experience back to Boesser and Miller to get discounted contracts, and bring Bruce back to see what he can do with a full season, with some tweaks like maybe bringing Josh Manson in, a F to replace Garland maybe and some competitive playoff hockey this year, the prior season by then, to add to our juice. Now, this core is effectively destroyed. You don't build a new core in 1 or 2 years either. We are finished for at least 5 years. And god only knows who will replace Boudreau? Some pathetic clown like Desjardins or Green again, I am sure. And, no, not trolling, I've literally been crying off-and-on since Bo left last night. You have no idea how much losing your favourite player in the best season he has ever had hurts., especially on a night we pull to within 4 of 3rd or 5 of the wildcard. Swear to god on that.
  18. Just wondering if you all think that it's fair to say that the Canucks are decimated by injuries right now, that most devastating phrase?
  19. Just curious what your "probabilities" would have shown the odds were of there being a Game 7 against Chicago in WCQF Round 1, 2011 or the odds of that Game 7 being pushed to OT on a short-handed goal by the Hawks with 2 minutes left? Also, curious what your "probabilities" would have shown the odds were for the Boston Bruins coming back from a 0-2 deficit in the SCF were? Also, curious what your probabilities would have shown that the Canucks would come back from 3-1 down against Calgary in Round 1 in 1994 and win in OT in Game 7 in Calgary or that the Canucks would come back from 3-1 down in the SCF and lose the Stanley Cup by 1 goal at Madison Square? Also, very curious what your probabilities at this point would have shown of the 2011 Blackhawks making the Stanley Cup playoffs or of the 2012 Kings making the playoffs? Also, very curious what your probabilities would have shown the odds were of the Canucks going 2-0-1 in the 3-game set just recently held against Vegas? I quit online gambling because I cannot count the number of times that the probabilities given showed that my bet was a sure thing, like 3 to 1, and I lost more than I cared to lose. There was an English premiere game I considered betting on but by then was so scarred by my losses, I didn't thankfully. The odds were like, in decimal form, 1.50 for Manchester City to win and something like 15.00 in decimal form for a draw. Sure enough it was a draw. There was a MLB game involving some southwestern US teams I believe that I bet $200+ on earlier in the spring where the team was up 6-0. The odds given were like 1.20 for the team up 6-0 to win and somewhere around 4.5 to 5.5, that the team down 6-0 would win. Sure enough, the team given 5.5. chances to win walked away with the victory. Another example, slightly more even odds but I bet on Denis Shapavolov winning his round at the tennis Miami Open. It was like 1.65 to 1.6 for Denis. 2.5 to 2.7 for the other guy. The probabilities showed Denis was a sure bet. I bet a lot on him winning. The guy the bookies gave around a 2.5 to 2.7 decimal point chance of winning, of course, won. The probabilities shouted that Denis would win. Didn't work out too well for me going with it. Also, a lot of times, I used to be like "wow, 538's model predicts a 98% chance team X wins tonight. I should bet on them. It's guaranteed cash. The odds are 98%!" Sure enough, I logged off poorer rather than richer. If probabilities are the be all and end all, why does 538 have so many busts on their forecasts across the NBA, NHL and MLB in games where they give a 90% chance or higher of one team winning? f I was wrong, I should be be a millionaire by now by just betting every night on the games in the NBA, NHL and MLB that 538 predicts one team has a 90%+ chance of winning in. Sadly, I can't do that because I would go bankrupt because their 90% forecast busts too much to make any money off it. CBS Sportsline is another example. I lost hundreds betting on their A rating. They told me they ran a simulation thousands of times and team x beat the spread greater than 70% of the time in the simulations. So, I bet big. CBS Sportsline had an A rating and their simulations showed 70%+ of the time, team X beat the spread. Of course, team Y beat the spread instead. Why did Team Y win when CBS Sportsline gave Team X an A rating to win and their computer simulations showed thousands of times and 70% of the total runs a Team X beat-the-spread victory? Sports are decided by real human beings with intangible factors coming into play. If that was not the case, then I suggest simply sending the athletes home and letting the super computers simulate the results each night at midnight and fans of the various leagues can just sign up for a e-mail each morning that shows the results of the super-computer simulations and what the probabilities given by the mathematical equations used resulted in. No need to play the games. The "probabilities" already have established the victor anyways.
  20. No need to talk about cheering for other teams. Canucks are winning it all this year!! Once again, huge credit to Alf, who made me a believer with his posts at the beginning of the season.
  21. Thanks for the info. I started following the Canucks closely again post that Burrows/Maclean Incident. Started following them closely in early 2011 so wasn't aware of the ins-and-outs. It explains a lot! And yeah, I always hated Don Cherry. So not surprised to hear that. On a positive note, thinking of it, I think last night's win was one of the biggest this franchise has had since 2011 honestly. One of the best games. EVER.
  22. Maybe Green and Benning made the players extremely angry with something they did during the first '21 COVID outbreak. I think the outbreak in the spring shattered the team and made them lose all respect for the management and coaches.
  23. So 2 superstars, Elliott Friedman and Ron MacLean, both hosted weekday games for us this past little while (Maclean the Colorado, Elliott tonight). I think the broadcast talent has their eye on us as being something special this year. I have never seen top Sportsnet NHL talent do a local regional game for us. Elliott doing Canucks telethon night? I mean, come on, they don't bring a big gun in like that for nothing. Also, Elliot was IN Vancouver, not just opining from Toronto. I credit David Amber. He's been a huge booster of us for 3 years now. As for the game, that was an all-time classic. The emotions of it being the kid's telethon night made it even more of a tremendous victory!
  24. Probably because of pressing family obligations, which aren't there on the road.
  25. So, the Amber. Friedman, Bieska, Hrudey panel was surprisingly high on out chances. They said Van was soaring. EF even went so far as to say he sees 3rd in the division as a viable path for us. Said we have 2 paths, the wildcard or the divisional. How the Kings play tomorrow will matter a lot.
