  1. Shariff Abdur Rahim for Steve Nash in about 2000
  2. 2011 Gillis work: 33 Samuelson 32 31 30 Malhotra 29 Alberts 28 Erhoff/Torres 27 Hamhius/ Ballard/Higgins 26 Rome/Glass/Tambellini 25 Lapierre/Bulduc/Volpatti 24 Oreskovich (Nonis- Raymond/Edler/Hansen) 23 22 21 20 Hodgson/Tanev I don't see a lot of difference between you list and my list from 2011. 14/15 players in your chosen age group, however I only listed players Gillis brought in, I did not list Sedin X2, Kesler, Bieksa, Burrows, Schnieder, Luongo. It is true Benning has done better with drafting, But Gillis drafted CoHo at 10 in 08 and there were 4 players better in the first round KarlsonCarlsonMyers and Eberle. there were good Dmen later in that draft that Gillis missed on. Gillis signed Samuelson, Malhotra,Torres, Hamhuis, Rome, I think those guys stack up pretty good agains Jim's signings Gillis stole Erhoff, Higgins and Lapierre and I would give Jim the edge but the Miller and Ballard/Oreskovich deals had a similar payout. But my point was, I think it is time we stop blaming Gillis. He did some good things, drafting was not his strong suit, but at this point lets look at what Jim has done and stop blaming MG or even Nonis. Every new GM picks up the pieces of the previous regime. Jim has had plenty of time to build his own team. At this point Jim has added 5 pieces to the roster through the draft.
  3. It is true, Mike Gillis left a hole where his draft picks should have been, but 6 years might be all the time we get to lay the blame at his feet. Jim has done some good things, Gillis also did some good things, (just not much in the draft) But how long does Jim get to use the Gillis excuse? Jim drafted Tryamkin, but he has not played for several years Jim traded the pick that could have been Brandon Montour Jim could have traded Darek Dorsett while his value was high, but chose to sign him for big $$ to play 100 more games over 3 years Jim could have drafted Rasmus Anderson or Vince Dunn Jim could have drafted Andrew Peeke or Samuel Girard or Viktor Mete Now I am not saying the moves that cost these picks were not helpful or neccesary, but they were choices made by Jim Benning, not Mike Gillis.

so we agree that we are both just fans trying to make sense of what we read and hear. Neither you nor I are playing the "I got a buddy who works for the sister of Jim's housekeeper, so you can take this to the bank..." card. But where do you think that info would come from, that Judd is unhappy? It is not in his best interest to leak that kind of info. All it would do is weaken his bargaining position with the Canucks and any other team he hopes to work for. Sometimes coaches use the media as do players and occasionally owners, but they never look good when they do. If Judd leaked info about his displeasure with the Canucks other teams will look at him as someone who cannot be trusted. So where would that info come from? I think reading between the lines is really our only "source"

That is kind of funny because there are several posters here that regularly say they expect Benning to "Do his magic" at the draft table. If Benning is the guy doing the magic, then great, he is the guy we need to keep. But if the "Magic" is actually the work of Judd Brackett, then he is the important cog. If that "Magic" is the work of Chris Gear or John Weisbrod then they need to be kept. These guys are not interchangable, one guy might be Petey and another Loui E. It is important to know who is who

in both cases the team and player/employee are in negotiations. What would you expect to hear exactly? there is a Benning quote that has a 'take it or leave it' sound, Re Brackett, what do you hear when reading that? I live in Victoria, i never talk to Jim or any of the other players in this situation, I do not have inside information. What I do is read internet info and express opinion based on that. What do you do? for all I know Jim and Judd might be lovers, but I have no info to support that. I the info I have read supports Judd leaving the Canucks

It does sound like Brackett is on the outs. I have never heard of Chris Gear before, but he sounds like a business/money guy With all the bad contracts Jim has signed it seems like a good idea, but Gear was here the whole time. What I find interesting/concerning is that some fans have suggested Benning should go back to scouting, and that seems the direction he wants to go. that is the interesting part. What is concerning is that Brackett seems like the logical person to take up the GM slack, but he is on the outs. I don't know anything about Chris Gear, maybe he will make a good GM and make good picks and trades, it does not seem to be where his expertice lies. Its almost like this team is running with a vacuum at the top. Or more specifically a vacuum between the Aqualinis and senior management. Look at the top of the food chain 3 Aqualinnis at Chairman and Alt Govs then Benning at GM then CEO, AGM, AGM/Chief Legal(Gear), then Smyl as Senior advisor then on row 3 Michael Doyle President,hopitality/live entertainment... <does that seem like an after thought? I am not asking this rhetorically, does anyone know what Michael Doyle has done to rank President? So yes, kind of a funny structure they are using, with a gap a Pres/Vice Pres and a GM leaning toward Scout.

I think I'd sign him as assistant GM with the view to move him into the GM job in the not to distant future there I said that

I just looked up the 2011 Bruins Seguin Zach Hamil Jordan Caron Jamie Arneil are the players drafted during the Benning era Maybe Jim had input on some trades, but that team was not built by Jim's drafting It looks like Jeff Gorton, current Ranger GM had a lot to do with the 2011 Briuns. Gorton was intrim GM from March 25- July 15, 2006. He left a pretty big foot print in a very short time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Gorton

  11. I heard 2 metres or 6 feet or one Cariboo length apart
  12. I listen to a lot of CBC I'd really like to hear from some of the travellers who have brought this virus home to kill their families and clients
  13. generator ventilator percolator anihilator elevator All the same to the Orange Dumpling

  15. So after 911 the airline industry had to impose strict new screening procedures. Will this happen again? Is it time that the metal detector also screens for fever. I must say I am slightly irked that the gov't is talking about a bailout for business sectors X,Y, Z and airlines. Lets face the truth, airlines brought us this pandemic. I hope better health screening is the outcome.
  16. I agree except for Gainey, Lehtinen and Ramsey it has been a center's award
  17. A little off topic but it looks like it took the Selke Trophy some time to sort itself out. In the early days Steve Kasper won with a -18, a few years late Rick Meagher won scoring 25 points and a +4. I remember a backlash after that one, then Gilmour won with 127 points and +47. I think it became the "scorer with big +" about then. But back on topic. +/- isn't unfallable but like most things hockey it evens out over time Bo has gained some +s being on the ice for empty net goals and has lost some being scored on with the net empty. Like I said, Things even out. As many want Beagle and Sutter off the team, one of Bo, Petey or Gaudette will need to take over PK/Shutdown. Maybe it will be Miller, but Bo being able to protect a lead late in games would be helpful
  18. I'd really like to see Bo pick up his defensive game. Last game with Erickon sitting and Beagle out, Miller and Pearson picked up the PK slack. Bo is leading the minus stat on the Canucks at -15 For the Canucks to compete Bo needs to be a Selke player while still getting the heavy match ups. He is just coming to the point in his career where other Selke players have started to perform. Guys like Bergeron and Kopitar really rounded out their game at about Bo's current age. Its time for Bo to step up and become the defensive leader, while maintaining his offense Bergeron at 20, -28 at 25 , +20 O'Rielly was a - player until last year at age 28 (Selke +Cup) Toews was a big + player at age 21 Kopitar, 24 years first big + season Those are all the Selke winners since Kesler in 2011 and all have Cups. Selke consideration is Bo's next big step

    Fire Green!

Poor Petey, came to the Canucks an offensive Juggernaut, and within 2 seasons they have transformed him into a defensive center
  20. Currently we have Beagle Ericksson Edler Tanev Sutter Motte Fanta Myers unless Beagle is injured and Ericksson is scratched then we get Miller Pearson and if Edler is out then Benn, so who is your second group? I woudl think at some point Horvat starts PKing this just seems like the Gudbranson Hutton experiment all over again
  21. who kills penalties? who kills when Edler and Beagle are injured?
