  2. Here is a better plan. Finish the regular season with 73 games currrently all teams have played between 68-71 games so every team gets 2 games minimum to shake off the rust set up the remaining games in mini tournaments in the West Colorado and StL play a home +home and Colo plays 1 other team, winner of the home/home wins division orit comes down to Colo's extra game Vegas/Edmonton home/home for the Division Dallas/Calgary/Winnipeg/Nashville/Vancouver/Minnisota play to shake out 3rd, wild cards ( 4 teams get in) Arizona/Chicago/Montreal/Buffalo/Jersey play for draft possition East Washington/Philli/Pittsburg/ Tampa play for position Toronto/NYR/NYI/Carolina/Columbus/Florida play for 3rd + wild cards ( 3 teams get in) Anahiem/LA/San Jose/Ottawa play for draft position Detroit /Boston play because no one is catching them for top or bottom. Some poor bugger, or maybe lucky gets a game against Boston In 10 days all teams that have a chance will get their chance while the winners of the loser teams get an extra lotto ball, or something Colo could jump Stl Edm could jump Vegas or Calgary could jump Edm or even Vancouver could jump both Edm + Cal it would be quick and exciting Then 1st round - best of 3 (how 70s) 2nd + 3rd rounds best of 5 Final best of 7 this is so fun, maybe I'll even make a schedule

that would be repeating myself and it was not a question the first time around as I pointed out earlier, YOU are playing 'silly bugger'
  4. I could see this plan having real egg-on-face potential for the NHL. The NHL likes to think that it is one of the big 4 pro leagues in North America and it has a long history of not really looking at the pros and cons of its rule changes. (1 case in point is the loser point, but there are more) What they may very well find happening is that fan interest, in suspect markets, is not as great as they expect, the ice is bad in many arenas, fans do not want to come inside during the heat of the summer, summer vacations, NFL start up, causing the NHL to be exposed as the greedy second rate league that it is. Followed next season by increased player fatigue and injury due to a short summer and even more compressed schedule. Remember just last week when Calgary and Winnipeg got roasted for poor employee relations regarding layoffs. this plan has the potential to shine a very bad light on the NHL compared to the other major leagues There is opportunity to come out of this looking really good or really bad, but the NHL has never been good at looking both ways before it leaps Bobrovsky looks pretty good right now paying the salary of arena workers, will the NHL expand on that or will it come away looking greedy? At the end of the day, the actions will be measured against the rest of sport.

if you are strill unfamiliar with TG's mistakes after 20 pages, you must not have been reading this thread maybe try reading before posting
  6. they could have avoided it, but it wouldhave been very unpopular to make sweeping changes without knowing how bad it would get. As gov't is in bed with business, gov't cannot stall business without proof. now we have proof, it will be interesting to see how the next pandemic plays out. Gov't likes "evidence based" desicision making, now we have evidence the evidence started to pile up once the first cruise ship was quarentined, but still that was not enough to swing popular opinion or business opinion it would have been deemed irresponsible to have to have solved this problem too early, because it would have seemed to have been heavy handed just like climate change the public needs to feel the danger before it believes it to be real science is not good enough

Babcock is a funny case though. For a long time he was in near Bowman status, probably over-hyped, then he gets "Me-tooed" in the Peters/Crawford mess, but never really gets anything proven against him, over-hyped in the opposite direction. Then you look at Toronto and you think, 'wow, these guys don't want to play the right way'. I would think Babcock is reasonably close to Torts in that he can ask for a lot and if you give it to him he will go to the wall for you. how different is Babcock's leaving TO than Torts leaving Vancouver? Torts is still a good coach and can do a lot with a weak team, but he scares guys like Panarin out of tow, and Willie Ny hated Babs. I think the teams these guys want to coach will go farther than the current Maple Leafs roster under any other coach

that train has just pulled off to a siding for a bit. not much to complain about with TG being undefeated for over a week

Greens capability as a coach has everything to do with mistakes he makes behind the bench. the reasoning for those mistakes are possibly/likely because of inexperience. Kushman is supporting his arguement with fact you are trying to twist his words do you even have a point to make , or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing?
  10. kind of like when Torts was here why did the leafs get rid of Matt Martin?
  11. if Bo goes out there and dominates and causes/wills a goal, then yes
  12. I don't hate Green, and have said in the past that I think he will one day be a good coach. Kind of reminds me of AV. However I do not agree with many here that use the "Not the OILERs method" How would the Oilers have done if they hired Tippet 8 years ago? or kept Quinn ? I know Quinn, RIP so that is a problem, but what if they went Quinn- Tippett? I don't care to remember all of their coaches, but Kreuger might be like Green in that I think he has the potential to be good but needed more experience. Eakins is back in the NHL so either he sucks (like Willlie) or he has gained some experience MacT was part of the OILER OLD BOYS who all sucked but might be akin to Stan Smyl as coach. would the Oiler have been better to keep MacT, Eakins or Kreuger for 3 years each? there is something to be said for stability, but also something to be said for hiring the best, most experienced coach available I do not believe in the "growing with the team" theory so to recap don't compare to bad teams do compare to good teams ( and not just when bad teams have slumps) don't expect young players to progress while your coach is working through his growing pains hire experience right from the top
  13. well, the Caps did transition to a great coach sortly before winning the cup ad have not won since Trots left. When you add adjectives like Terrible you make it a black and white argument. Be honest now, where do you have Green amoungst the 30 other NHL coaches + the 2 that are unemployed?
  14. those were just "off games" that every good team goes through right Bree
  15. Miller...... Toffoli Horvat Pearson....... Eriksson Petey Rous....... ........ Gaud MacEwen ....... Sutter........ Motte Virt Edler Tanev Stetcher Hughes ...... Myers Fanta Benn Domingue Demko
  16. I don't buy the young team excuse. It is true Petey looks tired but he, Gaudette and Hughes are not costing us games if they were the mistake makers, I'd buy that excuse A couple of bad games by Demko fit the young reasoning, but more often it is not the young guys
  17. maybe this whole"Meaningful games in March" matra is part of the problem, If that was the goal, they have attained that goal what next?
  18. At some point you have to ask is "playing hard" enough to win? Willie , by all accounts had the team playing hard. Above someone mentioned Trotz's Preds were underskilled but played well. teams are regularly picking off passes to the point, (it happened to Bo for about the 4th game in a row) the Canucks are a predictable team They had no shots like the 2 that were scored against them, but they did "pass" up several similar chances so as hard as they play, they do not stop high grade chances and they do not get high grade chances. Either they are poorly coached, uncoachable, underdeveloped, or scared to play in tough areas Or maybe a combination of the 3. the question is why?
  19. I have wondered the same about Bo, but didn't someone just post that Bo played all but 3:33 against McKinnon? McKinnon could have won the game with 5 mins with Bo in the box. Sometimes you have to play smart
  20. how is that working for you now? did she forgive you, or sigh in relief? Happy Womens Day to you and her
  21. and I am not saying it doesn't happen, but when it does it usually just stalls a GM firing AV was in contract heck with everybody on a NTC , Green is in a similar spot with Loui, Balls and Rooster Jim has replaced the NTC with untradable high $ contracts the effect is similar If Jim did not trade for Miller last summer many would be calling for his head Just as Gillis should never be aloud near a draft table again, Jim should not be aloud near July 1! I am digressing into GM rant, I don't think Green is near as good a coach as AV was or is THe thing is about people saying a GM does not get to fire 2 coaches, Jim never fired Willie, we could just pretend Willie was finished
  22. I never wanted Horvat I think I am on record as wanting Beagle I have been on board for 'culture change ' for 8 years Bo (C) with Sutter(A) and Edler(A) does not scream culkture change to me That said I am not for ripping the C from Bo unless we want to trade him as well. Then he ends up in Boston within 2 years and burries us for the rest of his career
  23. Firing AV did not help at all. We needed roster changes and firing the coach was "easier" We continued to need roster changes for 5 years after AV was fired AV was fired because Gillis painted himself into a corner with bad contracts AV was a scapegoat I think Jim knows this and is trying to be the opposite, hence Willie got to run out his contract and Green will too
