Rumor: Virtanen to Oilers (PTO/1 year)
lmm replied to BureBurrito's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
because the Canucks are trying to promote a holier than thou image I think Aqua hopes for a senatorship in the future the Oilers have a long history of giving second chances, way back to MacT in the 80s In vanland if you have issues, be they sex, booze, dope, or questionable play there is an underground railway to get you out of town it used to be mental illness too, but since Rick Ripien died and "mind Check/Speak Out" came along they have had a change of heart on that one THey embraced Tyler Motte and got good milage out of empathy press from that one I never believed that Kassian back injury story for a second the last play the Canucks stood with was Bertuzzi, (pre Aqua) then Aqua acquired and they got rid of Burkie as well. they didn't even wait for Virtanen to have a day in court, rumour/charged, good enough for us, outta town you go I'd be willing to bet they found out some dirt on Leipsic and figured they'd jump ship before it hit the press Honestly it is my least favorite aspect of this club, and probably the real reason they cannot get over the hump maybe they should change their logo to Mr Clean -

Phil Chicken and egg is a good analogy because it is hard to tell that is why I defend +/- it is not always reliable but it is not always unreliable so to use it exclusively would be wrong but to dismiss it total is also wrong IMO -

looking at your second paragraph I would group those player 3 ways Pat Kane is in a group by himself Superstar/Difference maker/ Floater when the season is lost, who pads his stats/ Probable 500 goal scorer/ 2 time -20 player Kessel/Jones/Larkin are in the same category as Gagner and I would ad OEL, (these players can come from any line or pairing) but players cast above their ability Kessel was not the Super star Toronto thought they were acquiring, neither is Jones or OEL, gagner, already discussed is not the 2nd liner that he sometimes appears he might be Kids, Chychrun is the oldest of the rest at 24 not ready to be prime time players but put in that role, could still round out their games Of all those you listed, Larkin is the one that most fits your reasoning, he might be a really good second liner forced to play line 1 He reminds me of Horvat when he is asked to play too high up the line up Sure, some guys like Kessel/Jones / Larking are good players asked to do too much and it costs them, but Gagner gets caught in between the top and bottom 6 Canuck fans often talk about players that can "Play up and down the line up" Higgins/Burrows/Hanson/Pearson come to mind and that is where Gagner/Gaudette/Goldobin miss the mark. That said Gagner is a step above the other 2 -

+/- is like the Luke Schenn/Tanner Pearson of the stat world peopole keep trying to minimize the usefulness but the bottom line is players the continually have bad -s play on bad teams because they are bad player that do not help their teams win. Its true good players can have an "off year" then bounce back, Like Edley's -39 under Torts but players that consistently go there, do so because they are bad at defense in Gagners case, not good enough for lines 1-2 not strong or defensive enough for lines 3-4 so he keeps finding work on bad/desperate teams -

Oh come now, lets stick with this century Philip Larsen and while we're at it Svendo and Rodin to complete the 3rd line -

Chiasson reminds me a bit of Luke Schenn and Pearson, guys that are continually spotted the 13thF or 7-8th D and then play virtually the whole season on the 2nd line/pairing if Chia plays 2 full seasons or 3 part seasons, he might make 800 NHL games, half of which were earned under PTOs that would be Masterton worthy

that 2019-20 year was an anomaly he scored 6 empty net goals If he did that for 4 years he'd be top 20 in the league, Like Sebastion Aho, 6years 22 EN goals if he did it for his whole career he's be up there with the Great One for the league lead but he did it once, and he scored 3 more even strength goals in 19-20 than he did last year, so yes better, but not much better than 2021-22 his +/- was better in '22 (I know, people hate that stat) and he played consistently on the most effective line in '22, no matter who he was playing with. I think 2022 was an "unsung hero" type season, while 2019-20 was a "Can't miss the empty net" type season he did seem to score a lot of tip ins in the 2019-20 highlite package that maybe he did not get in 2022, so maybe he was playing a more net front game in '19-'20 he is getting older though, so a permanent drop may be coming

I like your first line there. I find it interesting that many who disagree with my take on things, comment that I listen to too much media. CDC is the media that I hear. ( i don't know why this just went italic) There is another thread titled " the hypocrisy in media and fanbase..." some folks really want to spread the blame I guess a lot of people really do believe the media, but I don't, and you sound like you don't either It is there and almost impossible not to hear, but believing is a different matter

I have always watched the Canucks, actually I used to listen on the radio Some times I waste tooo much time here I just went camping for a week, (didja miss me?) I thought not, I didn't miss you either But it was pretty much the first thing I did when I returned, check CDC. I took up dancing 6 years ago, its fun too, but can take up too much time also so, I bought an old car, done that before, but not for several years I also took up cello and Spanish I try to practice cello every day, Spanish , not so much I took up trying to ride a unicycle, if I stop posting all together, its probably because I cracked my head I go to a lot of live music shows I hate the NHL, and sometime I don't even like the Canucks, but somehow I still pay attention If I have an addiction, its probably to this team, and this place
