[Rumour] Brad Hunt, Nic Petan to test free agency
lmm replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I would say management did not deem Rathbone ready and that is why the likes of Juulsen and Brisebois got games ahead of him Rathbone clearly hit a wall, he was -5 in 9 games, he was also -5 in his last 4 games in my recollection, Rathbone looked pretty lost out there near the end of his 9 game run, (while he was racking up his -5) he looked good early ,but that faded quite quickly Schenn was only "gifted" 5 games while Rathbone was up, and they only played 2 in the line up at the same time But Schenn leaped over Rathbone, Hunt and Poolman into the top four while Hunt played over mostly Burroughs, Burroughs was the biggest casualty to Hunt's minutes You can say Hunt sucked at defence (sic) but he was -3 in 51 games and he pretty much lost his spot to Dermot, so you can be happy about that I would rather have seen Burroughs than Hunt, but not so badly that I feel the need to have a tantrum over it Juulsen and Brisebois could have combined to go -41 and -82, i am not buying you Hunt is terrible at defence (sic) story I like Rathbone, and I hope he does well, but IMO he was rushed and I am glad he was sent down when he was I won't mind if he stays down for most of next year either, (maybe gets those Brisebois/Juulsen minutes) although I hope he has a good long career I also hope Brad Hunt can add another 100 NHL games to his resume, just not with Vancouver -

You are actually mostly wrong Hunt may have blocked a little But Schenn blocked Rathbone more than Hunt So did Bowey (who was brought up when Rath was sent down) and played 2 games before he too was dispatched and Hamonic, who played 4 games before and 20 games after Rath was sent down and Juulsen who played 8 games, all after Rath was sent down and Brisebois who played 1 game after Rath was sent down and finally Dermot who played 17 games after the trade deadline which was well after Rath was sent down That is 48 man games played by players other than Schenn and Hunt that were played by players chosen over Rathbone If you care to take out Hamonic/Dermot there was still 11 games played by minor leaguers instead of Rathbone Brisebois and Juulsen played all of their games after the management change. Blame Hunt if you want, but you will just be wrong -
This isn't really a 3 way deal its PLD for Schneider and Kakko then flip Schneider for Garland and a 2nd so, is Garland and a 2nd enough to pry Schneider out of Winnipeg? Garland seems a bit like Ehlers lite Winnipeg needs a top 6 C

You've been a Canuck fan too long

Not Loui, I was spot on with that one but Jake, I thought he would get it together at some point but it just seemed to be one thing after another Also, Jim Benning, (initially) I was fine with the Kesler trade... but after that, no, followed by more no and then Loui and then...

i doubt she is all that embarrassed at that moment more like seeing stars and wondering WTF? it feels like I just got kicked in the head!!! But You know I probably hold less malice for those two than your average hate filled Canuck fan I have seen waaaay toooo many busts in Canuck unis to be bothered hating them all. I kinda think the Hockey gaud should be the poster boy for "Hockey is for everybody" Seriously why waste your energy promoting 2slgbtq and people of various colours when you've got this straight white guy that is just as weird as anyone I keep pulling for Gaudner kuz that bugger knows how to let his freak flag fly

[Report] Canucks announce Hockey Operations enhancements
lmm replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
First let me say that I don't hate OEL I think he is a good player Overpaid, too much term, and I did not like the trade, but as a person and a player I think he is OK. Also, I do not believe that there are 32 top line centers, or 32 number 1 goalies or 32 number 1 D-men At any given time about 1/3 of the league fills these spots with the best they have available, which is a number 2 playing up. Ironically, one such goalie likely wins the cup this year. One Canuck example would be the 5 year period when Alex Edler was our number 1 D-man Another would be when Brendan Morrison played top line C Or when Eddie Lack or any of the "Goalie Graveyard" gang were our starter. With that said, I think you are over valuing both OEL (in general) and Quinn Hughes (presently). Hughes may well get there if he keeps progressing, but he is not there yet. I do not agree that the whole Canuck team are punching bags, sure many lack push back, I don't think anyone will agree with you that Horvat, Boeser or Pearson are punching bags, they may lack aggression however. Highmore on the other hand... I believe there is a book on OEL, that because he can be a game changer, is better played hard. You'll never hear any player admit it, but I'd bet (and this is just my opinion) that around the water cooler or maybe the skate sharpener, that is what players think. In a way it is a testament to his ability, because if he was not good/(with the ability to be) great nobody would bother I don't think there is a stat on number of absorbed hard hits, but if there was, I think OEL would be near the top. Maybe in his younger days, he could avoid those hits You can say D-men last longer, but Subban, Karlsson, Burns, Vlasic, Yandle are all between 32-35 YO and not helping their teams win Some d-men and players in general play well into their 30s, most reinvent their game And the Sedins were a liability at 37 Pavelski scored 81 points, at 39 Joe Thornton scored 51 points and was 8th in team scoring 51 points and leading a bad team in scoring is not going out on a high note Finally I agree, Toews and Cernack would look good on the Canucks, or any NHL team -

BOLD 1 do you really think there are 16 teams that would trade their number one guy for OEL? I'd like to see your list. BOLD 2 OEL was a punching bag out there this year, Every big forward in the league seems to want to run him hard. I see injuries in his future BOLD 3 people said that the Sedin's style of play would age well It didn't I expected OEL to play well this year and he did, I still don't think the contract will age well -

There are all sorts of good reasons not to have kids, like the planet is over-crowded or you don't want to pass on some congenital defect. There are also lots of good reasons to have kids One weirdo should not sway your choice one way or another I have 2 kids and they are both awesome and I have 1 grandchild I can tell you that being a parent is just paying your dues for the awesomeness of becoming a grand parent what makes you so sure this kid had a "Loving Mother"?

on the face that seems true but I think it is time to acknowledge that Jim Benning was a cancer on this team Linden and Benning could have worked well also But Benning found the opening to secure control and sweep Linden aside I am actually surprised how forgiving Canuck fans are of Benning He who talked many times about bringing in character guys, never, and I mean never showed an ounce of character as an employee, co-worker or subordinate I am a little surprised he didn't take over coaching as well while it seems on the surface that Gillis and Benning should have worked well together Gillis would probably have ended with a knife in his back, just as Linden did Its funny how many have a long list of players that they would never want near our precious fellows, Kane, Kane, Richards Doughty, Brown, Watson, Kassian, Marchand, but they gave ol' Jimbo a pass
