  1. I cannot remember the last Pacino film I liked. Didn't like Heat that much, to be honest. Might be Dog Day Afternoon, which is also overrated. As for De Niro, his last staring role I liked him in may have been Raging Bull. They have both really taken a turn for the unwatchable.
  2. 4.5 is being very generous. I couldn't find anything redeemable in that film, not even Leslie Mann.
  3. We all have guilty pleasure films. The Other Woman just isn't one of them for me. While there are many problems with the movie, I'll just list two of the most palm worthy ones: 1. Cameron Diaz can be a lawyer. Miscast. 2. Nicki Minaj is qualified to be an assistant. Miscast.
  4. I was probably 13 or 14 when I first watched it. I remember watching Pulp Fiction when I was 13 (1995), so it would have been shortly after that. I've seen it probably twice since then, just to see if I was missing something. I watched it in university again, so probably when I was 20 or 21, and then again a few years ago (late 20s early 30s). I've definitely given it a fair chance. Don't go in hating it, just completely neutral. Maybe it's just me, though. Not going to crap on people who like it, I'm trying to ease up on my elitist attitude. Unless, of course, you're D-Money, who thinks The Other Woman is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
  5. I am going to be that guy. I never understood the love for Scarface. It was "ok", but definitely overrated.
  6. Not a movie, but currently blowing through Suits. Terrific show. Put it off for far too long. About halfway through season 3 right now. While all the characters are terrific, I really like Louis Litt. Great character.
  7. I do like him, I just don't think he's as good as he once showed or as good as his sister (see: The Honourable Woman). Along with Brokeback, also really enjoyed Zodiac, Prisoners, and Source Code. Otherwise, meh.
  8. Should he? I like Gyllenhall, but he did do Love and Other Drugs and Prince of Persia. Not exactly the terrific films.
  9. Jurassic World - 7/10 I really enjoyed it. Expectations were lowered going into it, so I knew that it would never top the original (which I would give a 10 to). Chris Pratt was as charming as he always is, and Bryce Dallas Howard was "ok". The kids were needed for the story, as they always have been in this series. However, they could have been written better. At the beginning of the film, they set it up that the younger one's knowledge would come into play. It didn't. He just had to remember how many teeth a dinosaur had. So that was a setup for nothing. Otherwise, really enjoyable.
  10. Trainwreck-3/10 I didn't get the love or praise this got. Will edit later to post "issues" with it. EDIT: Alright, so first off, the best rom-com I've seen lately was "They Came Together", featuring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. Written and directed by Michael Showulter and David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) and a stellar cast. THAT was a funny, funny rom-com. This was the "same old same old" as we've come to expect over the last decade. But what made this a lot worse, especially for a Judd Apatow film (though not written), is how eye rollingly unbelievable this script was. Also, out of nowhere, Amy Schumer would start narrating, as if there was a narrator the entire film. However, this only popped up once or maybe twice, so it was just odd. But lastly, it just wasn't funny.
  11. The Man From UNCLE - 4/10 This could have been so, so much better. Armie Hammer, who I think did a stellar job in Social Network and Lone Ranger (yup), was definitely the standout here. Made it watchable. Henry Cavill, on the other hand, continues to show that he is an abysmal actor. Not nearly enough humour, which is where it fell short. Definitely not enough action to be interesting or set itself apart from, say, Mission Impossible. The female lead, who was phenomenal as Ava in Ex Machina, was brutal here. Jared Harris, who was terrific in Mad Men, had a throwaway role, as did Hugh Grant. Again, Hammer was really solid. So much so that he makes this movie watchable. But Cavill. Boy, oh boy.
  12. Really? If true, that's pretty clever.
  13. If I can sit through an episode of Modern Family, 3 minutes of Two and a Half Men, and Hot Pursuit, pretty sure I can give The Moodys a shot.
  14. Well, from what I've heard, it's supposed to be funny.
  15. Never seen True Blood, so can't comment on those. I have seen the last four seasons of Dexter though, which are legit terrible. I've seen a few of the older Doctor Who's, they are exactly what you would expect. Not very good.
  16. While I love Doctor Who, it is not for everyone. That said, you managed to slog your way through, what is, the absolute worst season of not only Doctor Who, but of almost any TV show in the last 10 years. David Tennant's seasons are a lot better. And to me, his 3rd season with Catherine Tate (played by Nellie Bertram in The Office), is really funny. Their relationship is a lot more sibling love and ribbing than with the other companions, who just swoon over him. And again, Matt Smith's first season is also very good. The rest of his, snooze fest.
  17. Not a film, but just tried watching Modern Family. It's just really, really terrible.
  18. Lots of films over the last few days, thanks to another week off. Mad Max: The Road Warrior - 9/10 Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome - 8/10 Spy - 5.5/10 First half was really quite funny, especially Jason Statham and Rose Byrne. Last half, while a nice turn in plot (making it less predictable), was a little weak. A Most Violent Year - 7.5/10 While not the best drama I've seen the last few years, certainly solid. And Oscar Isaac has been on a role lately.
  19. I remember that review! There was a video of a monkey peeing into it's own mouth for it
  20. Fletch Tried watching this late last night. Chevy Chase film from 1985. Got through about an hour of it. Either I was just too tired or it just bring me in. I'll finish the rest tonight.
  21. I like rap as much as any 33 year old, married white guy can; however, I found that song intolerable. But it was apparently awesome enough to not only get nominated for an Academy Award, but to win as well.
  22. Hustle & Flow Do you like to watch films that have a lot of hype and a terrible soundtrack? Then look no further.
  23. Just flew back from a week in Vancouver. Because of airplanes, I get to watch such gems like, Hot Pursuit - 0/10 Quite literally, the worst film I have ever seen.
  24. I have seen it. I think I gave it roughly the same. Really tough for an actor to carry a film by themselves in one setting. But Hardy did a terrific job compared to other actors in the same genre (ie. Castaway, Buried). As good a film in one setting as could be.
