While I agree with both of these posts, for the most part, a few of his films have been watchable since Mars Attacks!: - Sleepy Hallow - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - though not as good as the first, still a decent kids film - Corpse Bride - Sweeney Todd I haven't seen Frankenweenie, so I can't comment on that. Though I had heard that it was a decent film. I turned off Dark Shadows midway through, as it was really quite terrible. And while I sat through Alice in Wonderland, the only reason we finished it was because we knew "that dance" at the end was going to be a trainwreck, so we had to finish it, just for that. My thoughts on Burton are pretty much how most other moviegoers think, which is his films are progressively getting worse and worse. However, he has made some decent films since Mars Attacks!, it's just that none of them reach the heights of his earlier work. Also, people tend to forget that he directed Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, which is amazing.

Forgot about this one last week. Alex Cross - 3/10 So Matthew Fox was actually alright in this. Not great, but certainly was passable in his role. More importantly, Tyler Perry was not awful (nor was he awful in Gone Girl). However, the film really tapered off as it progressed. Not incredibly memorable. In fact, I barely remember it and it's only been about a week. Decent for a movie playing in the background, though.

I've seen AHX probably 3 times, last time was about 10 years ago. Would not be able to watch it now. My tolerance for heavy films is not what it used to be.

The Equalizer - Antoine Fuqua needs to take a break/10 Exactly what you'd expect from a Fuqua/Washington pic. Not a good thing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Lego Movie - 9/10 Forget what I gave it the first time, but still holds up. Remember liking it the first time, but that the ending was what really elevated it and separated it from other films. Was starting to tear up near the end, just like the first time I watched it.

Gone Girl - 6.5/10 Well written and filmed well. Affleck continues to show why he is better behind the camera than in front of it.

Your Highness - 0/10 As unfunny as you can get.
-
Lucy - 2/10 Watchable. Until that ending. Besson does it again.

Of course not. I mean, how else would you be able to find out where your wife is?

Wife and I received a boatload of free movie tickets over Christmas, so many that we'll have to waste them on terrible movies. So, first up is the 12%!!!! on Rotten Tomatoes, Taken 3. D-Money, just try and hide your jealousy.

there's plenty of technically worse movies out there, but for the talent level involved and what I presume was a decent budget, this might get my vote for worst ever (note: I have not seen Battlefield Earth) I've been watching a lot of bad movies lately for sh*ts and giggles, so I'm going to have to check this out.

I was not too kind when I reviewed Grand Budapest. However, I found out that it was definitely the mood I was in when I first watched it. Sat down with my wife, who had not yet seen it, about 2 weeks ago. Loved it the second time around. The girl was played by Saoirse Ronan. Her most notable roles were in Atonement, The Lovely Bones (though I don't know why anyone would have watched it), and Hanna (criminally underrated).

While I share skepticism over Jurassic World, as I adore the first one, I'm not too concerned with the director, as Safety Not Guaranteed was one of my favorite films from 2012. That said, he is also writing Jurassic World (along with the writer of SNG), so if it does suck (which it looks like), then it's less because of his directing and more due to his writing.

I keep forgetting she was in American Pyscho. As for starring roles, the only role I liked her in was Election. As strong as Broderick was, that movie was all Reese. Barely remember Walk the Line.

Locke is in my top 5 films from 2014. So great. The older I get, the more I drift away from heavier films, opting more and more to just turn off my brain and just be entertained. However, Locke was absolutely incredible. Loved the message that doing the right thing can ultimately wreck the happy life you are accustomed to; but that a man should be "man enough" to ultimately do the right thing. My wife, who hates realistic films films because they depress her, also loved it due to the message.

Oh, I never said it wasn't terrible. It is absolutely brutal. But I only watched it because Hardy was in it and was the only reason why I kept watching. Had he not been in it, the fact that Reese Witherspoon was in it was reason enough for me not to watch.

Looking forward to Mad Max, as Tom Hardy has made every film he's in watchable. Yes, even This Means War. In other Tom Hardy news, The Revenant comes out near the end of the year, also starring DiCaprio. I'm done with Bond films, and this coming from a guy who loves the Roger Moore films. Aside from Casino Royale and GoldenEye, I haven't enjoyed a Bond film in a long, long time. Abrams makes things watchable, so obviously Star Wars VII is going to be watched. I am in love with Jurassic Park, so even though the Jurrasic World looks like garbage, I'll still see it.

Best review you've written.

I've seen quite a few movies lately, so I'll briefly review what I can remember watching. Christmas Vacation: 9.5/10 Long story short, one of my favourite Christmas films. Classic Chevy Chase. ------------------------- 22 Jump Street - 6/10 Funny, but forgettable. Don't regret watching it and, as far as comedies go, it's passable. But certainly far from the best comedy I've seen. ------------------------- Neighbors - 3/10 Chuckled a few times, and not as dirty as I thought it was going to be, which was a welcomed change. Rose Byrne was solid, as usual. That said, forgettable and would not watch again. ------------------------- Maleficent - 7/10 Surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Not much to say, really. Good kids movie with a good twist on the well known story.
-
Chris Cooper absolutely stole the film with his "maniacal laugh" bit.
-
The Muppets (2011) - 8/10 Was never a fan of The Muppets, could take them or leave them. This was really fun and cute though. Reminded me of good kids movies that offer enough for adults. Lots of fun. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Escape Plan - 6/10 About what you would expect from Arnold and Stallone, and about as good as it could be for two aging action actors. I had fun.
-
The Interview - 2/10 I chuckled a few times in the first 20 minutes. However, the film took a huge turn for the stupid when the CIA came into the picture and the story took a turn towards North Korea. Probably would have been a better comedy without the North Korea angle but keeping Rogen and Franco as their same characters. It was hands down the worst film Rogen and Franco have been involved with in a few years. However, Rogen has had his hands in quite a few stinkers. He did write The Watch, after all.
-
The Maze Runner - 5/10 Worth watching, I guess. SFX were really well done; although, this should be expected nowadays, as there is no excuse for poor SFX. Acting was decent, for a YA movie. That said, I came out of it confused because nothing was explained and there is still, I assume, another movie or two coming.
-
Nightcrawler - 8.5/10 Terrific acting, well written and beautifully shot. Not a perfect film, with a few choices from the director I wasn't too fond of. However, still better than majority of films on the market. --------------------------------------------------------- The Hobbit #3 (so very tired) - 5.5/10 It gets a passing grade from me, simply because I'm a big, big Tolkien fan. However, this was hands down the worst out of the 3, and the first film was bad.

Comedy Bang! Bang!
