  1. Man, Good Time was another great example of just throwing you right in. I still haven’t watched all of Uncut Gems, which is crazy. I only watched the first 30-40 minutes
  2. I hear you. It’s a risky move by writers/directors (ultimately the writer) to make. When it pays off to begin a movie in the middle of a story (ie: Marriage Story, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Oldboy, You Were Never Really There, etc), it really pays off.
  3. I’ve heard good things about Swallow
  4. Toronto Maple Leafs Starting Lineup: Lucic - Forsberg - Ouellet Perron - Avery - Ponikarovsky Siren - Little - Torres Melin - Sutherby - Radivojevic McCabe - Kubina Voinov - White Backman - Stralman Smith Fernandez With the first overall pick, the Toronto Maple Leafs select...
  5. Lucic and Smith in the top ten for their respective positions? Nice
  6. 1BR Really like thriller/horror films, especially those that include feeling of isolation. I recommend you go into it blind. I really enjoyed it, especially the ending.
  7. Toronto assigns Vitali Tuomainen to the AHL.
  8. It was really strange. Mark Ruffalo is the ultimate supporting actor, who should never be the lead. And Hathaway should really never be the 3rd or 4th lead in a movie. She’s far too talented to be used in this role. Her role really could have been done for a fraction of the cost by hiring any unknown actress. Her role was fairly unimportant.
  9. Watched it tonight. Echo what you said how it feels like a movie that’s been made several times before. I did enjoy it, though. Not the same type of movie, but since you mentioned Spotlight, that was a movie that felt like it was better to be a documentary or a book. I found it excruciating to get through. Interesting story for sure. Exhausting to see how long the whole thing went on for. As for Ruffalo, just a personal preference, but I’ve never been a big fan. He’s good as a supporting actor (ie: Zodiac, Shutter Island), but not a fan when he’s the star. Also, why was Anne Hathaway in the movie?
  10. Toronto Maple Leafs Lineup Milan Lucic - Peter Forsberg - Michel Ouellet David Perron - Sean Avery - Alex Ponikarovsky Jarno Siren - Bryan Little - Raffi Torres Bobby Melin - Brian Sutherby - Vitali Tuomainen Bryan McCabe - Pavel Kubina Vyacheslav Voinov - Ian White Christian Backman - Anton Stralman Mike Smith Manny Fernandez
  11. Toronto Maple Leafs call up: Jarno Siren Bobby Melin Vitali Tuomainen
  12. Go f**k yourself, Chris Tanev! You’re not welcome here!
  13. Toronto has one offer out. Should the player sign, we’ll be set for next season.
  14. Perfectly happy that Nick Leddy, Leos Cinibulk, Conlan Crawford, and Martin Marti aren’t quite ready to sign. Also, having Milan David playing overseas is great. He’ll get playing time and sign when he’s good and ready.
  15. Hopefully I get him, because this was an absolute no brainer for a depth player.
  16. Toronto places a claim on Branko Radivojevic
  17. Mad Max Fury Road So, for my 38th birthday, decided to do a deep dive on, what I believe, is one of the most successful pure popcorn movies, around. And by deep dive, the true nerdy “research, watch, take notes, and discuss.” Have seen it a number of times, and each time I appreciate it more than the previous, especially considering how much of a nightmare it was to create, how many hours of footage was shot (over 435 hours), how much the actors hated working on it, that not one extra sustained an injury on the movie (and that the extras were made up of Cirque du Soleil performers and ex Olympic athletes), and then how great it turned out. By and large, popcorn movies are just, “Turn off your brain and don’t think.” And even then, some are bette than others. On that front, I really do like this better than others. Not much is said, and yet you know so much about the world (of you haven’t seen any of the previous Mad Max movies). The world is in peril, everything sucks, and women are treated very, very poorly. As a Mad Max movie, it really works as an overall “end” to his story, even if that doesn't ultimately happen and they make more (Miller is making a Furiousa movie). But that’s why I especially love the ending. Furiousa and the rest of the women ascending up to rule the Citadel, while Max is left (chooses to stay) below and forever wander the world alone. It’s sad, but a fitting story for both. Can watch it over and over again. So many great scenes, but my favourite might be when Max goes off in the distance in the night to kill/take care of those trailing them, but Miller shows enough restraint to not show this action scene, you just hear explosions. When he gets back, he doesn’t say anything, he just has blood on him, to which they say: “Are you bleeding?” “That’s not his blood.” Again, Miller is a great director at knowing when to pull back and not show. And that’s ultimately why I love the movie even more. So many movies, where an entire world is created, writers and directors feel the need to explain or show so much (ie: see Star Wars prequels, Matrix sequels). But here, Miller doesn’t explain, nor are there rants of expositions thrown at the viewer. Miller, although creating a popcorn movie for everyone, doesn’t treat his audience like morons who need to be told what they’re watching. He knows his audience is smart enough to figure out the world, what words in the world mean (Witness Me), and where the characters ultimately end up, without the characters even saying where they are going to, or what will happen next.
  18. 5 year projected lineup, if I don’t make any changes. Jarno Siren - Dirk Thomas - Marcus McLean Bob Melin - Sam Katalina - JB Thibodeau Milan Lucic - Bryan Little - VM Moisio V Nesterov - PH Escuder - V Tuomainen Leos Cinibulk - Slava Voinov Nick Leddy - Conlan Crawford Jonatan Loow - Brendan Leeb Milan David Chet Pickard
  19. Toronto Maple Leafs Draft Wrap-Up After another disappointing season, it was time to make big changes again in the draft. While I didn't have a first round draft pick last year (one which would have netted a 9.0B defensive prospect at 9th overall), I was still happy with how last years' draft turned out. This year, having our pick that ended up winning the lottery was incredibly helpful to the long term success of the organization. Milan David At first overall, it was a toss up come time to pick between David and Danik Owen. While, at the moment, Owen had better overall glove, blocker, recovery, and mental game, I feel that by the age of 24/25, both will be similar, except in two areas: Recovery and Rebounding. Owen will always have the edge in recovery, but rebound control looks to be going to David. Both will be all-star, franchise defining goalies, but acrobatic goalies are not common in the league, with only Tim Thomas and Jonathan Quick as the two current ones. Having Milan David, who models his game after Dominik Hasek, will be a huge factor for us once he's starting. Marcus McLean Once David was drafted, both Steve Mason and Leo Courally (9.0C) were not necessary long term. Leo Courally was traded to the Islanders for the 19th overall pick, which was used to draft Marcus. A RW, who I desperately needed in the system, the 8.5C powerforward has good grades overall and models his game after Scott Hartnell. We already have some piss and vinegar in the lineup with Milan Lucic and soon to be added Bobby Melin. Having another guy will help balance out the lineup. Jean-Benoit Thibodeau Another right winger, Thibodeau was selected at 30th overall, and models his game after Steve Sullivan. An 8.5C finesse player who will help distribute the puck and keep up with killer wheels. Veli-Matti Moisio My first of three blind picks. The LW/RW Esa Tikkanen comparable with an 8.0C grade powerforward, will be a great fit long term, who has high "A" grades in scoring, physical game, and mental awareness. While the above two players are RWs, Veli is a LW/RW, which will be an interesting fit. At this point in the draft, was shooting for the 9.0B player, and believed him to be a LW. However, with Jarno Siren, Milan Lucic, and now Veli, I have an abundance of players on the LW. That said, Lucic would best be utilized as a third liner in the future. Kurtis McGee My next blind pick, I was faily certain that Kurtis wasn't going to end up the 9.0B prospect. However, considering I have loads of talented youth about to step in and develop in the AHL, the 6.5D LW prospect will be a staple in the AHL, helping mold our youth. John Fortin I was certain with this last pick that Fortin (6.5D) would not be great. The 9.0B had already been taken, so it was strictly by positional need. In fact, center has been a position of weakness in the lineup for the draft over the past 5 seasons. I drafted a 9.0C center in last years' draft, but he won't be ready for a few more years. And even then, I still need high end center talent. What Fortin will do is help mold my high end/elite wingers in the AHL, and possibly develop into a serviceable NHLer himself. HIGH END PROSPECTS (anyone over 8.0 or higher) Overall, the future is finally starting to take shape in Toronto. I need another 9.0 center, hopefully in next year's draft, in order to really start getting this lineup in order. Milan David: 10.C Goalie (Dominik Hasek comp) Jarno Siren: 9.0C LW/RW (Teemu Selanne comp) Jonatan Loow: 8.5C LD (Calle Johansson comp) Bobby Melin: 8.5D LW (Bengt-Ake Gustafsson comp) Dirk Thomas: 9.0C Center (Pierre Turgeon comp) Samuel Katalina: 8.0D (Michael Nylander comp) Brendan Leeb: 8.0D RW/RD (MA Bergeron comp) Conlan Crawford: 8.0C RD (Dave Babych comp) Nick Leddy: 9.0D (Brian Leetch comp) Marcus McLean: 8.5C RW (Scott Hartnell comp) Jean-Benoit Thibodeau: 8.5C RW (Steve Sullivan comp) Veli-Matti Moisio: 8.0C LW/RW (Esa Tikkanen comp) 12 prospects (not to mention the 7.5s I have in the system), that will all be high end players. What this does mean, I'm sure, is that there will be a log jam, and one (or several) will need to be moved to another organization in order to reach their full potential. The bolded players in particular, all defensemen, will likely see one of them moved, in order to bring in an equivalent center prospect. To add. If you are a team that finds yourself with an abundance of 8.5/9.0 centers, and needs to balance out long term to have a high quality winger or defenseman, let's talk.
