    Lets not kid ourselves or be too hard on this team - we are at best a Wild Card entry and likely quick 1st round exit team. The goal now is just make the damn playoffs :) surrender that 1st rounder for JT and move forward

      I always thought this was a borderline playoff team that'd probably just miss out. I definitely think this is a playoff team next year though.

       

      Wouldn't hurt my feeling to just miss out on the playoffs this year yet be competitive for them year round. Also gives us a top 15 pick in a deep first round

      Yeah that wouldn't be the worst, to keep a top-15 pick.  Maybe Toffoli also walks but likes his time here so he signs as a free agent and so we wouldn't give up the 4th either.

      Guess the kids just have to chalk one up for learning then.

      If Toffoli walks he'll get a large offer (as do many UFAs) that we can't compete with.  Being close to LA is a big plus for us.  Not being able to offer him a ton of money is a negative.

      Something is wrong with that Fla team.  They lack compete.  As the games get harder to play, too many of their players hide on the perimeter and fail to engage.  They, by all rights of roster, should destroy the Oilers, but they are getting destroyed.

      Totally agree - watching them live in Edmonton on Wednesday I was really impressed with their play. Definitely looking a lot more promising depth wise than last year.

      Cici and Kerfoot arbitration will award 9 million for the two.  Leafs might have to walk from both guys.  I really think a team should offer sheet Marner at 11 million times 7 years.  Islanders should do it.  Come on Lou!  Stick the knife into your old boss and twist.  You’ll like it, and so will we all!

      Buffalo should offer sheet Marner. They have 40+ mil in cap space after this season and can easily lock up their RFAs by then too.

      Is Myers overpaid, certainly.  And We probably overpaid Benn a bit too, but when all is said and done, on paper, we've kind of insulated Hughes with better options than we had at the end of last season.  We added qualities to our backend that we were lacking last year, and hopefully the sum of all those moving parts will be greater than the individuals.

      Can't stand McGuire either. When it was suggested by someone else on the panel, that Quinn Hughes will improve the PP this coming season, he basically gave a "pfft", saying we don't know that. VAN never seems to get the same treatment or respect from the media. Seeing Panarin sign for $11.3 or whatever in NY, I hope another team offer sheets Marner $13.

      Hearing numbers as high as 12 million long term which is beyond ridiculous for an undersized guy who is a PPG. He isn't a 50 goal scorer or 100+ points. Anything 10 or more should be reserved for the most elite. He is not.
