We might win the Presidents trophy if we keep this up
-
I think that is a bit extreme. He will probably have to take a job an assistant coach first tho. He still has time to come back. Or as head coach in the AHL. People in the league respect him - it’s just fans that say the worst things about coaches and players. Same goes for Jim Benning. He definitely did more good than bad here. JB, Willie D and Green all were here during the roughest years. It will pay off more going forward thanks to the ground work made by all of them (Willie to a lesser degree as most players he had are gone now). I’m sure JB will have learned a lesson or two about rebuilding, trading and signing so he’ll be a more complete GM if and when he gets a job again in the NHL.

I agree that we definitely need a Kane-like player on our team. I’d prefer it to be a Kane-like player not Kane himself. But between having a Kane-like player and not having a Kane-like player, I’d maybe like to have Kane here. Maybe. The trading genius Jimbenningof2021 would have moved Hamonic and Ferland to San Jose for Evander Kane at 50%.

Opting out of the Olympics would give the league a chance to play all the missed games during that time. I really was looking forward to the game tonite but they should shut down for 2 weeks and give everyone a chance to get well, keep a distance to teammates and spend some time with families. Win/win all around. Olympics are not gonna happen now, that is pretty obvious.

I’m happy that they have good quality depth players to call up. You’d think a team would run out of options at this pace.

[PGT] Winnipeg Jets at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 10, 2021

Bruce Boudreau is still undefeated with a perfect record under two different GM’s. If Jim can find a GM for us soon, he might go undefeated under three different management groups. Now there is some stats many coaches dont’t have -
Getting moved, fired or positioned differently within the team when new management takes over doesnt mean you suck at what you do. We need a fresh start, new set of eyes on things and since we’ve been at the bottom of the league for 8 years now, right against the cap the whole time, no-one has a secure job in the org.

[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
Spoosh replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I could be wrong but I don’t think he’ll be making moves right away. We need to play some games still and look at where guys are at with Bruce and his system. We are not in the best position to get the max return for anybody on the roster yet so no point moving players. And as we are so close to the cap we’ll need to move a significant contract if we move a pick. And likely he’ll focus on the GM search first and after that it’ll be the new GM making the trades. I for one am not worried anymore. My worries moved on with Jim and Travis. The olny way is up for us now. The only way down from where we are is if we forget to pay taxes or arena bills. -
New GM new faces. After the big move (Hamonic call-up) made by the only undefeated GM in Canuck history - expectations are sky-high on CDC.

[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM

This is great news! This gives us a more calming and respectable front office look already. I’m still hoping and expecting us to hire Scott Mellanby as GM. Makes a lot of sense to me and it would be exciting to see what he could so with the team. I was not against having Benning here (changed my mind in just the last two weeks I guess), but always hearing the same message year after year and seeing us in the same spot eventually got boring to watch. It didnt sound convincing enough to me in the end. btw, both Benning and Gillis disappeared from the media and were seldom available for interviews during the last 1 1/2 years before the were removed by the team. Like both got bored of that part of their jobs. That was kinda sad. I get that it isnt always fun as the media always try to trick you knto saying something they want to hear. But carving out time to being properly available for 15-20 mins once or twice per month shouldn’t be too much to ask given your position. That has always bothered me with both of them. I’m pretty sure both would have been liked a lot more by the fans had they been more vocal at times and given just a bit more info naturally in advance about things without being specifically asked about it in a presser. -
On CDC… I don’t see how that would be an issue.

I was under the impression he was already on the team but good stuff I guess.

[Report] Canucks fire Jim Benning, name Stan Smyl as interim GM

I can live with it for now but I can’t recall a group of voices have made a winner in the NHL. A goup can and should be heard but it needs a trong leader and I hope one comes from outside the current team that has a fresh take on the whole situation. No previous attachments to staff, players etc. -

Finally. Nice to wake up to some good news for a change. I hope the new president and GM will be found soon and I hope the people won’t come from the current group. We need a new voice on that front as well. -
We are still last in the pacific and only behind Arizona in the west so two wins now doesn’t really help. Only prolonging the inevitable. If you know you must make changes and are going to make changes eventually, you need to do it now. A good businessman must know that. First a GM and then a coach. Preferrably both at the same time.
