  1. No he won't and no they won't because no he isn't.
  2. Funny thing about those long timers and lifers, we have been here since day one and have seen far worse stretches than this. I shudder to recall the dark days of Mike Keenan, or the incompetence of Bud Poile, or the plain vanilla years of Jake Milford and Jack Gordon, or the mediocrity of pretty much the first 20 years of this franchise, 1982 excepted. Yes, we all expected to have won a Cup by now, but we haven't and wishing we would won't make it so. So the oldest fans are most often the most faithful and hopeful, because we have the most experience with dashed hopes and disappointment. We've watched the ebb and flow of good years and bad years and are still here, probably because we choose to be patient, hopeful and faithful. Someday the Canucks will win the Stanley Cup and maybe we old guys will still be here to see it, but in the meantime, we continue to be fans.
  3. Agree entirely. NHL owners are not necessarily pillars of virtue. What if the Aquilinis sold to a guy like Harold Ballard, who ran the Leafs into the ground? Or John McCaw, the king of Orca Bay who forced local owners, the Griffiths family, out of the business entirely. Or Charles Wang, who was notoriously hands-on as he gutted the New York Islanders and signed Rick DiPietro to a 20 year contract? The cold hard fact is that people who can afford to buy an NHL team didn't get rich by being nice, noble or generous. As the saying goes: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
  4. Okay, so the answer is: Every one of those players was selected by Vancouver in the fifth round since 1970. So I guess I am saying that losing a fifth round pick is no big deal.
  5. Guess what these players all have in common? Bill McFadden Brett MacDonald Matt Cockell Prabh Rai Carson Focht Mike McNiven Robert Kron David Darguzas Peter Andersson Jacob Truscott Larry Bolonchuk Eric Murano Rick Bertran Adam Polasek Jonathan Myrenberg Paul O'Neil Sean Fabian David Jonsson Frankie Corrado Aku Koskenvuo Mike Rogers Gino Odjick Ryan Thorpe Ben Hutton Ty Young Doug Murray Dan Kesa Pavel Duma Anton Cederholm Rick Durston Brian Loney Kevin Bieksa Gustav Forsling Steve Hazlett Adrian Aucoin Rob McVicar Adam Gaudette Dirk Graham Scott Walker Nicklas Danielsson Carl Neill Darrell May Yanick Dube Mike Brown Cole Candella Moe Lemay Todd Norman Matt Butcher Kris Gunnarsson Doug Quinn Tyler Prosofsky Charles-Antoine Messier Toni Utunen
  6. DiPietro wanted out. The team wanted to move him out. Both got what they wanted and Vancouver gained a little cap space plus a player who might turn out to be worthwhile. Pretty tidy business, I'd say. And about losing Myrenberg and any other prospect, well, prospects don't help you win right now. Unless of course you don't care about winning right now, in which case, why are do you even call yourself a fan?
  7. Excellent point. For Hoglander to become more productive he needs to play on one of the top two lines. I don't see that happening inVancouver. More likely he gets traded and becomes a 15-20 goal guy. Because players leaving Vancouver often fare better on their next teams. I don't know why.
  8. I, too, have always wondered why Brisebois never got a legitimate look in the NHL. He's been a good pro and has raised the level of his game every year. Maybe some oher team might take an interest in him and give him a shot to play regular minutes. As the philosopher Ringo once sang, you gotta pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues, and you know it don't come easy. Brisebois has paid his dues, so let him sing.
  9. Pretty easy to tell the difference; the drunks are loud, sloppy and obnoxious. The high are just looking for nachos, cookies and Rocky Road icecream.
  10. Sadly, there will ALWAYS be an idiot who tosses a jersey. I mean, who spends $150 for a ticket and god knows how much for an official, customized jersey, then throws a hissy fit and throws it on the ice. All that goof has proven is that he is narcissistic fool who desperately wants to be the centre of attention. The best remedy to counter this kind of idiocy is to completely and utterly ignore it and not validate it with our attention. As Chilliwack once sang, If there's no audience, there ain't no show.
  11. If so, then why has he bounced around like a ping pong ball with seven teams in the last five years? Just asking.
  12. Just dropped in and haven't read anything in this thread. So, has anybody pointed out that Demko hasn't been Demko? I mean, he's made some good saves, but he hasn't made the BIG save, the one that steals a game.
  13. Nothing but the greatest respect for Horvat, both as a player and a man. He has given everything to be the player and leader he has become. That said, the massive commitment to JT Miller indicates clearly that management has decided Miller is worth more than Horvat, and that they probably can't afford the dollars Horvat probably deserves. I can see Horvat being traded, probably at the deadline when there would likely be a few teams willing to pay through the nose for such a solid player. I am still hopeful that Horvat will agree to terms with Vancouver, but he's going to want something starting with a 7 and I think management will think that's too rich for their budget.
  14. Why? Against the Oilers the defence consisted of Wolanin, Juulsen, DeKeyser, Brisebois, Burroughs and Keeper. All good players but none of them outstanding. Although I think he's played well enough, I don't think DeKeyser gets a contract. Of the rest, Burroughs might slot in as 7th or 8th defenceman. The rest will give Abbotsford a pretty decent defence. Be careful not to read too much into what is really just an audition for an eventual NHL job.
  15. Why is it nice? And when did one player become "a bunch"? Just asking.
  16. I recall that when the Larionovs got here, Jennifer took Mrs. L. food shopping. Having come from Moscow, where store shelves were often bare or had limited quantities, Mrs. L. frantically began filling up her cart with piles of meat and other food. Jennifer had to assure her that the shelves and bins would all be stocked again tomorrow and that there was never a shortage.
  17. I liked Bains a lot, but Aman looked NHL ready, albeit in a fourth line role. His skating, hockey sense and puck skills are excellent. I doubt that he's much of an offensive threat, but a strong showing in Abbotsford should earn him a call up if necessary due to injury.
  18. Good for Motte. He was not going to be a $3M a year 4th liner in Vancouver, so I'm glad he ended up with something. Ottawa may surprise a few teams this year.
  19. Do you think they just decided to randomly sign a guy they know nothing about? Do you think maybe their scouts and analytics people didn't do a deep dive into the player and his capabilities? Do you think with money so tight they would hand out a contract on somebody they didn't believe could help the team? Do you think that maybe the people who get paid to make these decision might know more than you?
  20. Refuse all you want, since it seems so important to you. Your self-righteous hissyfitting is about as impactful as a sparrow fart in a hurricane. Millions of people are actually sad to see the old girl go, and they don't much care what you think.
  21. Way to go. When you are shown to be wrong, you just double down. Canada is a constitutional monarchy with the Queen or King the head of state. This is true no matter how much you want to believe it isn't.
