  1. I can't recall ever hearing of a player announcing he'll test free agency a full year before even getting there. How well does THAT go over in the dressing room next season? Oh hi, guys, I'm just here for the year so don't mind me and I'll stay out of everyone's way. 'Kay? And twenty-two middle fingers rise in salute.
  2. Miller finished ninth in NHL scoring, Here are the salaries of the others in the top 10: McDavid 12.5 Gaudreau 6.75 with a big raise coming this summer Huberdeau 5.9 with a raise coming 23-24 Draisaitl 8.5 Kaprizov 9.0 Stamkos 8.5 Matthews 11.64 Tkachuk 7.0 with a big raise coming this summer Miller 5.25 Marner 10.903 Anybody who thinks Miller signs for anything less than 8.5 or 9 million is living in a dream world. Or, as Brian Burke once remarked, "a drug-induced fantasy".
  3. If Allvin and company are going to sign any Penguin, I'd prefer Letang over Malkin. And I'd keep Miller. But none of these things is likely to happen.
  4. I dunno, but does anybody else get nervous seeing a Russian in a tall building in front of an open window, having just signed to leave Russia, depleting the KHL?
  5. Rathbone is also one of Ryan Johnson's favourite prospects, and Johnson is an influential member of the Rutherford Empire. Rathbone is a loyal, smart, coachable guy who will spend the offseason working on his defensive game. If he is successful, he will make the season opening roster. To those eager to give Rathbone away for a lottery ticket, just go watch this kid play three or four games, then tell me you want to trade him. You won't.
  6. Amen. I get angry when thoughtless keyboard jockeys refer to this player or that player as "useless" or "junk" or (my most hated term) "garbage". Tens of thousands of kids play hockey, most of whom dream of an NHL career. A small percentage of those kids have the talent, the size, the skill and the opportunity to play at the NHL level. There is not a single player on an NHL roster who is a bad player; all of those have been filtered out the system by the end of Junior. Not every NHL player is equally skilled, but every one of them has put in the time, the effort and the dedication to be the best they can be. That dedication demands respect and not the disparaging comments made by critics who have never played a single minute of organized hockey.
  7. Like it. Whitecloud is a right-hand, cost controlled defenceman at a reasonable cap hit for several seasons. Paul is that big, right shooting centre who could bolster the third line. I think Vegas would be reluctant to add a first rounder, but you never know. Maybe if Vancouver added Poolman to the trade? Of all the proposals I have seen, this one seems the most realistic.
  8. Not at all. Using the Internet Hockey Database it took about five minutes, which you would know if you bothered to look for evidence to support your opinion in the first place. Again, if you bothered to look for evidence to support your opinion in the first place you wouldn't make unsubstantiated statements. But now you have me intrigued. Thousands of Swedes? Really? Can you list more than fifty? Actually, 393 players of Swedish birth have played in the NHL, and I found that in less than 90 seconds. But do keep on digging, you're just getting deeper.
  9. Dan Milstein on Donny and Dhali: "I look forward to talking with you after the free agency". Hmmm. He represents UFAs Mikheyev, Zadorov, Namestnikov as well as Kuzmenko and Klimovich. Are one of the UFAs interested in Vancouver?

  10. Right on. The team that turned the season around and nearly made the playoffs was the same team that sucked to start the season. The right coach brought out the high level skill those players had, and it was a belief in that high skill level that Benning used to assemble the team that ended the season. I get really tired of the "Benning never did anything right, ever, in his life, and never will" crowd. Yes the man had his limitations, as do we all, but many of his acquisitions have proven to be sound. Give credit where credit is due and be grateful for the players he acquired who are now important pieces of a developing team. I'm eager to see what Allvin and his massive staff will do, and am confident that they know infinitely more about running an NHL team than I or any of us do, but Ghost is right, the foundation is already there, it just needs remodelling and updating.
  11. Do you not recognize a blackball when you see it? He pissed off Bettman at least twice; once when he was a player agent and was instrumental in driving player salaries up See: Bobby Holik), and once when he signed Luongo to that ridiculous back-diving contract. If Bettman isn't a fan, then you'll be out of work for a very long time.
  12. Victor Hedman, Oskar Sundqvist, Carl Gunnarsson, Nicklas Backstrom, Carl Hagelin, Patrik Hornqvist, Johnny Oduya, Marcus Kruger, Nik Hjalmarsson, and Viktor Stalberg all played four rounds in winning a Stanley Cup in just the last ten seasons. So when, where and how did you become an expert on the "inherent psychological limits" of Swedes?
  13. I apologize if I missed this, but do we know the exact list of teams Kuzmenko met with? I have Edmonton, Vegas, Nashville and Florida. Not all confirmed. Anybody?
  14. I've always liked how Bear played the game. If his health is fine, I think he'd be a good add at a reasonable cap hit.
  15. Or: It is in Vancouver's best interest for other teams looking for a number one centre to think of Miller as that guy. Also, he couldn't very well say "we have two good centres in Horvat and Petey". By leaving Miller off that list, it telegraphs that he is probably available. It is the difference between Vancouver perceived as being eager to move him and Vancouver being reluctant to move him, meaning the cost goes up. Bottom line, if Allvin doesn't get a good enough offer for Miller, they still have him for another season and JT will be hungry to earn a big payday.
  16. Bang on. None of those little guys are left in the Cup Final. Look at the rosters for Tampa and Colorado. You won't see any small guys. Every one of the Tampa defencemen is at least 6-feet and 200 pounds. Most of their forwards are also bigger guys. Same with Colorado for the most part. I think it suggests that, as you say, smaller players might be great in the regular season, but often fold in the playoffs.

  18. Pastrnak's agent, JP Barry, has shot down rumours of a split between Pastrnak and Sweeney. He states that they are prepared to sit down over the summer and look at an extension. Pastrnak denies he has any animosity toward Sweeney. This is just another in a long line of off-season rumour-mongering by reporters with nothing else to report.
  19. The Canucks organization is not a democracy; it is a dictatorship, and as long as the owners like the logo and uniforms, they stay. Personally, I detest the orca because it is/was a corporate logo for a company no longer involved with the team. You do realize that probably thousands of NHL fans think that a Canuck is some sort of smiling fish taking a header through a plate glass window. Overall, the Giants have the best logo, followed by Abbotsford. The orca has to go, along with the stupid stick in the rink. A few years back, someone did a logo mockup of an aviator that looked pretty cool.
  20. Imagine having Darnell Nurse costing you $9.25 million for the next EIGHT years. Cody Ceci at $3.25 million for the next THREE years. Or Tyson Barrie at $4.5 million for the next TWO years. Or Duncan Keith at $5.538 million for ONE more year. Tell me, please, how Edmonton can be better next year when it is clear their defense is deficient.
  21. Sort of like Canucks fans did for years after Calgary eliminated Vancouver on a goal kicked in by Jim Peplinski(?). Karma be a bitch.
  22. Fun fact: Markstrom has allowed 15 goals in less than three games. Not only that, but he looks to be badly in need of an Ian Clark, since he is spending way too much time on his knees, too deep in the crease.

C'mon he's got Jason LaBarbera as his coach :emot-parrot:

  23. Maybe not, but he survived the Great Purge so he must be doing something right. I thought he was responsible for the power play, but I could be wrong about that.
  24. Glad to see that Tyler Motte is getting such positive reviews in New York. Good, honest player who brings it every game. Hope he signs for what he's worth, which is more than the minimum.

    1. Putgolzin

      Putgolzin

      Yup, good for Motter.

I liked the idea of him doing so poorly that we could pick him up for a nice price in the offseason.

But no chance he would play along on that pipedream.

    2. canucklehead44

      canucklehead44

I think he would have re-signed for less than what we are paying Dickinson. We lost draft ranking, cap space, and got a far worse player out of it. I really liked Motte

    3. Angry Goose

      Angry Goose

My bottom 6 dream was to have both Motte AND Paul for next year.  The playoffs (and trade) have ruined that

  25. Anyone here remember peak-Messier? The guy who could play any way you wanted, was strong and tough and had really good offensive instincts? Well that's Podkolzin. Why would you ever trade that away?
