  1. Pure reaction borne of frustration. Guilty as charged. Do the crime, pay the fine. Moving on......
  2. NRA files for bankruptcy after State of NY investigates the alleged redirection of $64 million to personal use of its leaders. NRA will re-form in Texas to avoid those pesky NY regulators.

  3.  Florida is going to allow up to 5000 fans per Panthers game. Florida has one of the worst COVID infection rates in the US. On the bright side, this will be the first time in history Florida will lead the league in attendance. And COVID cases.

wander if  other teams might refuse playing in that situation i might unless it was a outdoor rink

  4. Toews has broken many Canucks fans' hearts over the years, but he is a superior leader and an outstanding player when the going gets toughest. I think of him as a better leader than Messier was at his peak. If Jonathan Toews says he is too ill to play, believe him. There are dozens of possible reasons for deep fatigue, and a lot of them are bad. Let's all hope that he's able to find out what the problem is and then to be successful in treating whatever it is. The league is a better league with Toews healthy and strong and I hope he fully recovers.
  5. Glad to see MLB officially recognize the Negro League as a major league. Looking forward to a younger generation learning about Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell and Satchel Paige, among others. Disclosure: I am old enough to have seen the legendary Satchel Paige pitch against the Vancouver Mounties in the summer of 1961. I still remember how excited my dad was to see Satchel play.

      Loooooong overdue.

  6. Doubtful. Calgary doesn't sign him unless their doctors have cleared the knee.
  7. My old grandfather used to say about Alberta drivers "they hell for straight, but no damned good for curve."
  8. Today Benning avoided incurring $54 million dollars of salary burden on two players. Markstrom may provide good return on investment for most of his contract, but Tanev is Tanev and he does get injured a lot, so maybe that's an overpay. In any event, the signal is that Vancouver is going with a young lineup and management would rather sacrifice serviceable veterans in order to change the face of the franchise. Still, I'd look for Benning to undo his remarkable display of day one restraint by doing something goofy on day two. I really hope it isn't Tyson Barrie for too much money and term.
  9. I can't see Markstrom staying for three reasons: 1. He won't get the term the would likely want; 2. He won't get them money he could get elsewhere; 3. He will want expansion draft and trade protection which Benning won't want to give him. So if Markstrom goes, Benning goes out and buys a 2.5 million dollar veteran backup on a one or two year deal, but then has enough money to sign Tanev and Toffoli.
  10. Not exactly true. Lucic and Marchand were drafted in June, 2006. Phil Kessel was also drafted by Boston that year. Benning was hired as Director of Player Personnel on July 25, 2006, or a month AFTER the draft. Here are the players Boston drafted under Benning's watch, with NHL players in capitals: 2007 - Zach Hamill, Tommy Cross, Denis Reul, Alain Goulet, Radim Ostrcil, Jordan Knackstedt 2008 - Joe Colborne, Maxime Sauve, Michael Hutchinson, Jamie Ariel, Nicolas Tremblay, Mark Goggin 2009 - Jordan Caron, Ryan Button, Lane McDermid, Tyler Randell, Ben Sexton 2010 - TYLER SEGUIN, Jared Knight, RYAN SPOONER (no longer an NHLer), Craig Cunningham, Justin Florek, Zane McIntyre, Maxim Chudinov, Zach Trotman 2011 - DOUGIE HAMILTON, Alexander Khokhlachev, Anthony Camara, Brian Ferlin, Rob O’Gara, Lars Volden 2012 -MALCOLM SUBBAN, MATT GRZELCYK, Seth Griffith, Cody Payne, MATT BENNING, Colton Hargrove 2013 - Linus Arnesson, Peter Charlie, Ryan Fitzgerald, Wiley Sherman, Anton Blidh, Mitchell Dempsey 43 players drafted, one star forward (Seguin) and one star defenceman (Hamilton) playing, with two NHL defencemen (Grzelcyk) and (Benning) and a backup goalie (Subban). While Benning has drafted very well since coming to Vancouver, his reputation as a draft wizard prior to coming here was a little overblown.
  11. Sounds easy, but if Markstrom insists on expansion draft protection, and Benning won't give it to him, then I'd think Jacob walks for more money, term and security. But if he does sign without protection, I would leave him unprotected and protect Demko.
  12. I don't disagree that OEL would be an awesome addition to the Canucks. I just can't see the dollars and term working for Vancouver, both in the short term and the long term.
  13. Big fat no. The guy is 29 and has seven more years making $8.25 million. A year from now Quinn Hughes will be asking, and getting, $10 million. So will Petey. Or do you tell those two guys, " Sorry, but I blew the budget on OEL. and Ol' LE"?
  14. Now Trump is saying the boogymen are coming. No word yet on who they are, where they are from, who is employing them. Apparently they were on their way to the RNC but somehow never showed up. This guy is flinging everything at the wall hoping something will stick. But thugs in black? Really? If he is ever charged with a crime, he can easily pull off an insanity plea, since he is batsh** cray-cray. The conspiracy theory that President Donald Trump pushed Monday that a plane “almost completely loaded with thugs” had been set to disrupt the Republican National Convention was almost identical to a rumor that went viral on Facebook three months ago. There is no evidence of any such flight. When Ingraham asked for more information about the flight, the president said, "I'll tell you sometime." He then alleged the people had been headed to Washington to disrupt the RNC. (Weird that he says they boarded a plane this past weekend. Coming to disrupt the RNC. Which ended last Thursday.) The claim about the flight matches a viral Facebook post from June 1 that falsely claimed, “At least a dozen males got off the plane in Boise from Seattle, dressed head to toe in black.” The post, by an Emmett, Idaho, man, warned residents to “Be ready for attacks downtown and residential areas,” and claimed one passenger had “a tattoo that said Antifa America on his arm.” That post was shared over 3,000 times on Facebook, and other pages from Idaho quickly added their own spin to it, like the Idaho branch of the far-right militia group 3 Percenters. One post claimed that “Antifa has sent a plane load of their people” and that the Payette County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it. Within days, that version of the rumor picked up enough steam in Idaho Facebook groups that the Payette County Sheriff’s Office had to release a statement insisting that the viral rumor was “false information.”
  15. Overall, nice work. You put in a lot of work to make your proposal and it is appreciated. I share your excitement for the future of this team.
  16. Legitimate question: Are you able to form thoughts and express them without the use of videos?
  17. Exactly. As someone in the same age ballpark as Alf, I have learned that the most important thing in life is our relationships with those that love us and those with whom we are good friends. And we have to work hard to keep those relationships because they are precious and they are what sustains us. So, to squander such an outpouring of genuine regard and sincere concern is a mistake. It tells people that you are more than willing to bask in the kindness of strangers, but that is also a one way street. Most one way streets lead to dead ends. At this point in your life, Alf, why taint the milk of human kindness with bitterness?
  18. At the moment, players are payed for 82 games. If you suddenly cut the season to 50 games from 82, that's nearly 40 percent loss in revenue. The owners would demand a nearly 40% player cut, and their reasoning would be pretty solid: if I have 40 percent less revenue, I should be able to pare my expenses by 40% as well. So, no to reducing the season, no to extending the bubble for the regular season, and pray hard for a vaccine not made and pushed by Russia.
  19. Juolevi played 6:16 in his first NHL game. He made no mistakes and was able to move the puck out of danger quickly and accurately. He seems pretty calm and deliberate, but it was a very small sample size. Even so, he did not look out of place.
  20. Never thought I'd live to see the day when: 1. Americans were barred from entering Canada. 2. Weed was legal. 3. My duly elected government was openly advocating the use of glory holes for safe sex. Strange days, indeed. Most peculiar, mama.
  21. Good observation. I'm certain the Democratic Party realizes they need to make the voters choose between a unified, coherent and comprehensive platform and the chaos that is Trump world. Forget Trump's base which will jump, beg and fetch when so directed, but the undecideds are going to want to hear concrete plans, not three word slogans that mean nothing. (Drain the swamp, Build the Wall, Lock her up.) Trump has no plan, no vision and is completely out of ideas. Worse, he listens to nobody but his own distorted self. Meanwhile, Joe Biden is organizing and building alliances and formulating plans and vetting VP candidates while Donald is obsessed with statues, flags and confederate generals even as he ignores the realities of COVID-19.
  22. Excuse me....I just wanted to know if it was still okay to post Joe Biden stuff in the Joe Biden thread or has it completely morphed into a bash Trudeau thread? Thanks.
  23. So the duo Lady Antebellum changed their name to Lady A out of respect for the racially sensitive nature of the antebellum period, which was when slavery was deeply ingrained in Southern culture.

THEN, the duo turns around and sues a black blues performer named Anita White who has performed under the name Lady A. The duo wants the legal rights to the name and are willing to sue the lady to get the name. So.....black lives don't matter?
