Appreciate the support. Right now there is no indication that Air Canada is contemplating cancelling flights from Mexico City, but who knows what will happen by Tuesday.

The Mexican Minister of Education has just announced the closure of every school in the country from March 20 to April 20. No sports, field trips, assemblies or other school events. Still in Mexico due to fly back to YVR on the 17th. Fingers crossed.

You need to separate the alarmist, trivial, offbeat, idiosyncratic stories from the ones that give hard facts like numbers, advice to keep healthy and safe, and those directions that come directly from medical experts. And yes, there will be stories about a$$holes making money off the fear and greed of others. What comes around goes around. They will get their comeuppance one way or another.

He’s a left hand shot. Hughes and Edler are ahead of him, so no, he won’t be top four.

I am in Mexico right now and have been for four weeks. We are due to fly back to YVR on Tuesday. The president of Mexico is a doofus, calling Covid-19 a myth and telling everyone that we shouldn't stop hugging each other. Mexico has fewer than 10 cases reported, (but not being in any way proactive) but know this: if the virus does take hold in this country it will be a nightmare because there is a far lesser standard for public cleanliness here than in Canada. On another note, when arriving in Tokyo two years ago, we passed through a screener that showed body temperature to check for fever. I would hope Canadian airports have adopted the use of these scanners. That way, nobody can lie about any symptoms they might have. Also, we intend to self-isolate when we arrive home.

Just guessing, but if Vancouver was deemed to be in a playoff position at the time of outright cancellation, then they would have made the playoffs and would therefore lose the first round pick. That would seem logical to me. Other ideas? Anybody?

Joe Biden Debates Donald Trump September 29
Curmudgeon replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
The fundamental difference between a Trump presidency and a Biden presidency is that Biden is smart enough to surround himself with smart people, then let then set about repairing the damage that Trump has caused to trade, to international relations, to agriculture, to coherent, non- xenophobic immigration policy and a dozen other things. Biden is smart enough to know what he doesn’t know, whereas Trump truly believes he is an expert on everything. He actually believes, for example, that he has a natural ability for epidemiology because his uncle was a doctor of something somewhere. -
If the season is cancelled, nothing changes. Green will be back. Deal with it. If the season is suspended and the playoffs are held, I don’t know who makes it, but if the Canucks are outside, Green still stays. Deal with it.

Joe Biden Debates Donald Trump September 29
Curmudgeon replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
Trump’s loyalist base is consistent, but it remains a minority in the bigger picture. In nearly four years, he hasn’t grown his base much at all and there is some evidence that he has lost some women supporters. Even among his loyal supporters, there is support for his policies even if more are critical of how he conducts himself. If he runs against Biden I doubt if he will debate him, simply because he won’t prepare, he won’t listen to advice, and he can’t bully Biden like he did with Hillary. As long as Biden stays on message, all Trump will have is to attack Hunter Biden, call him Sleepy Joe and make a record number of false claims every day. This time the Democrats won’t sleep on the key swing states and will pour money and time into those states particularly hard hit by trade wars, dried up agricultural markets and promises not kept by Trump. On top of that, Trump’s incoherence is worsening by the week. Much of the time he rambles on and off topic, makes outlandish claims and keeps claiming everything he does is perfect. His act is wearing thin, even with some of his supporters. Still, it will be a close race, but know this: if he loses, heaven help the USA between the election and January 20, 2021. It will be one huge Trump grift for three months. Just watch. -
You are not wrong. Breakouts have been a problem most of the season. Other teams throw a hard forecheck on the Canucks dmen and they get hemmed in or turn the puck over. Even Edler and Tanev struggle. Only Hughes can move the puck pretty much at will. I really think the system they want to play has the forwards too far up the ice most of the time, making the defenceman have to get control of the puck, avoid the forecheck, then thread long passes to the forwards. I think that’s expecting too much of the defenceman when they are under such intense forechecking pressure. I have never coached but I would really work on trying to move the puck more efficiently so that they can be quicker in transition.

So how is Demko’s record since Markstrom went down? And how many times have the Canucks been down two goals before scoring one? And why do I cringe every time the opposing team enters the Vancouver zone with possession and control? Demko isn’t the only reason the team is flopping, but he’s the main one.

[Signing] Red Wings re-sign Alex Biega
Curmudgeon replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Really happy for Biega. Played to the limit of his ability every game, never complained and seemed like a solid team guy. All that and a degree from Harvard. Good stuff. -
You are priceless. You tell me that a sovereign Alberta makes my flight to Toronto somehow dependent on the US, then tell me about Alberta airspace and how that makes me dependent boy. Then I point out to you that flights from Alberta to Toronto also pass through American air space, thereby making you just as dependent on the US as BC. Now you claim you weren’t talking about flying, even when that was the entire subject of the exchange. You claim to want to debate but you never concede a point. Ever. Your idea of give and take is you give and everyone else takes. So funny.
-
And do you know that a flight from Calgary to Toronto also crosses into American airspace? So the whole “dependency” thing cuts both ways, wouldn’t you say?

Ha ha. Find and quote anywhere I said a single word about airspace. You won’t because you can’t. You thinking your point was obvious is the problem, because you so seldom actually explain what you think. You respond in six to ten word sentences that focus on a word or a phrase and, like the chess playing pigeon, you think you’ve won. It is also lame to bring another poster into the discussion when the disagreement is between you and me. When you have nothing left, you go for the cheap shot on somebody else. Or you tell people, repeatedly, to educate themselves when you really mean indoctrinate yourself into the independent Alberta mindset. Or, when you don’t have an answer, you fall back on “you’re not very smart”. Projecting yet again.
-
I said nothing about airspace and neither did you. This is the FIRST time you have explained what you meant. Has it occurred to you if you want sovereignty over airspace then Alberta is dependent on Canada and the US any time a plane leaves Alberta airspace? Your argument about airspace is silly and totally representative of how you seem to think an independent Alberta can dictate to the rest of Canada. You have way more power to make change inside Confederation than outside. An independent Alberta could make demands and Canada could say go pound (tar) sand. Isolationism is a dead end and if the world price of oil drops to $25 or $30 bbl over the long term Alberta is going to need help. Antagonizing everybody might feel righteous, but spite is a poor way to plot a path forward.
-
Did nothing of the sort. You are projecting again.
-
And there it is. Can't answer and resorts to name calling. To borrow an expression, dealing with you is like playing chess with a pigeon. You strut around, knock over the pieces, crap on the board and think you've won. Every time.
-
But yesterday you posted a meme saying that it’s not my Canada and that you’re Albertan first. So you are Canadian when you want to run a pipeline through BC but it’s not your Canada because Alberta. Now it’s your turn to respond with some gibberish about dependency on “Us”.
-
Do you understand you've never given me a direct answer?
-
I appreciate your thoughtful response. Thanks for your civility.
-
Says the guy who still writes “I seen” instead of “I saw”.
-
Annnnndddd you still make zero sense. If your Alberta is going to be populated by people like you, Alberta is worse off than I thought.
-
Strome: I asked you how an independent Alberta would make my flight from Vancouver to Toronto longer and you said something about dependence on Us. I ask you to explain what you meant. You then posted something totally unrelated and said somebody else got it. Maybe you are trying to battle on too many fronts, but I am still waiting for an explanation of how my flight to Toronto would be longer if Alberta were independent. Answer the question.
