  1. I should know better than to expect a direct answer. What are you trying to say, Strome, because your reply makes zero sense.
  2. I live in the Lower mainland. How does an independent Alberta make my flight to Toronto longer? I’ll wait.
  3. So sky, mountains, foothills, cow patties and wheat. Good summary.
  4. Question: if Alberta somehow manages to actually separate and become a sovereign nation, how many present Albertans would decide to leave Alberta in order to retain their rights and privileges (and obligations and responsibilities) that are theirs as Canadians? I only ask because I would assume there are a lot of Albertans who don’t support independence. I just wonder what happens to them if their Canadian citizenship is taken away. Even if only 10% decided to move away from Alberta, you’d be losing about 450,000 people, virtually all of whom would probably have the financial means and job portability needed to start somewhere else. Quite a hit to the fledgling nation’s economy, to say nothing of the talent drain.
  5. I think the point of the “rest” is to have a day away from the rink where they can think about and do other things. Maybe walk the dog on the sea wall, go out for lunch with their partners, go to a movie. You know, a day off.
  6. They just played five games in nine nights and starting with Colorado, will have nine games in 16 nights. It is obvious a few players are banged up. Rest is good, even if it doesn’t fit your model of coaching and motivation.
  7. Read his post again. He said he enjoyed the game. He didn’t say he liked the outcome or that he enjoys mediocrity. Of course he wants the team to be successful. He’s also seen more hockey games than you’ve had hot meals, so maybe a little tolerance on your part would be good
  8. 1. He has the team contending for a playoff spot, which a lot of so-called experts said wouldn’t happen. 2. He has worked with Jake patiently since inheriting him in Utica in Jake’s second year when so many on CDC were labelling him a bust. Look at Jake now. 3. He is loyal to his players. If you want loyalty in your players you have to be loyal to them. 4. He does not publically call out his players when they make a mistake. 5. He has found a way to use guys like Motte and Eriksson in ways that benefit the team. No, Loui will never again be a 30 goal scorer, or even a 10 goal scorer, but he is often out in the final minutes protecting a lead (last few games notwithstanding) 6. He has integrated young guys into the lineup and helped them develop at the NHL level, and I’m talking Gaudette and MacEwen, not obvious stars like Hughes and Pettersson. As for bringing you guys up with youthful energy and not playing them, well, youthful energy is great, but NHL skill is greater and if a regular can play, he’ll play ahead of the energetic youth from the minors. 7. He’s helped Boeser become a more complete player. Yes he has. 8. He appears to have created a stable environment where the players want to play for each other. After playing over 900 games in the NHL himself, he would know how important that is. Now it’s your turn, Alf. Tell us why Green is a bad coach.
  9. You have no idea what he is saying behind closed doors. Green is not one to call out his players because he knows that doesn’t work. He will present a united front publically and deal with on-ice problems privately, away from the prying eyes of the media. And not to be impolite, but how many years experience as an NHL coach do you have? If the answer is none you are in no position at all to assess coaching competence. Like zero.
  10. Seriously? You think a pump up video is the motivation this team needs? Is this high school?
  11. Yes, because Baumer is solely responsible for bad bounces, giveaways and injuries to defenceman. Benning has been looking all year to upgrade the defence and hasn’t been able to. Myers is out and Hughes is obviously playing hurt. Wouldn’t be surprised if Edler and Tanev are also playing hurt. But go ahead and blame Baumer if it makes you feel better.
  12. Man, why are you even here? You have nothing positive to say and you just want to stir up crap. Won’t the other kids at school play with you?
  13. Why don’t you look him up for yourself? He plays for Northeastern.
  14. Balance is good. Winning is better. This is the NHL where every game is hard to win. You play your best goalie until he needs a rest, then you go right back to him. The NHL is not a developmental league and if you aren’t 100% ready, you sit most of the time. Demko has now lost two of three. How is that going to get the team to the playoffs? And if the team ends up missing the playoffs, will you say that’s okay because at least Demko got more starts?
  15. Imagine that some supposedly grown man thought the best way to criticize a 17 year old girl would be to depict her being sexually assaulted. Then imagine actually having the image printed as stickers or decals and distributing them to other men to affix to their vehicles. Apparently the RCMP are investigating. Good. The actions of the very few are not representative of the greater population, but there sure seem to be a lot of grown men in Alberta who hate this girl with a passion bordering on obsession. I can think of three or four Wexiteers who probably have the sticker on their pickups, just above their truck nuts.
  16. Had Shaw forever, then moved and switched to Telus. Have had zero issues in eight years, even during the changeover to fibre optic. Have never had a service outage and have all the high speed internet our household needs. I also like that I can PVR whatever programming I want from anywhere in the world. It all comes down to personal preference, and I am sure there are just as many satisfied Shaw customers.
  17. You misunderstand me. I am not pulling for him to fail, I am only saying we can’t assume he’ll fit in right away and that if we assume he’ll be ready, we could be wrong. I am urging caution. That’s all.
  18. What criteria are you using? He isn’t in the top 30 defenceman in points in the KHL. He isn’t even the highest scoring defenceman on his own team. So if scoring isn’t your yardstick, what is it and how do you measure it to claim he is one of the very best men in the league? I am legitimately curious to know what information you have that I have yet to find. People like me? You mean people who are cautious and want hard information rather than opinions based on I don’t even know what? Find me some legitimate evidence to back up your claim. And yeah, that’s what people like me want to see.
  19. Let’s be realistic. Tryamkin may not be an NHL defenceman, but he may be. We won’t know until we see how he adjusts to the NHL after three average seasons in the KHL, a league not on par with the NHL. Besides that, let’s say he becomes available in late March when the team is in a high stakes chase for the playoffs. Do you really want to bring in somebody as a project who hasn’t been here all season and has zero chemistry with anybody? And on top of that, there’s no evidence that his English skills are any better than they were when he left. And do you sit Stecher, who delivers 12-15 solid minutes a night and bleeds blue and green? Honestly, I just don’t get all this Tryamkin adoration. There is zero evidence he is ready to step in and play at NHL calibre level. Mere gigantism is no guarantee of hockey skill. If he’s coming over early, he’ll need time to adjust to EVERYTHING. He should be targeting training camp to try and earn a job. If he shows he’s earned it, excellent. If not, buh-bye.
  20. Smart thinking. DiPietro has just been handed the keys and his mission is to take Utica all the way. He would likely end up practicing and sitting in Vancouver. Benning and company understand that the young guys need to play and play a lot to gain experience in difficult situations. On balance, acquiring Domingue for a career minor leaguer is quite an astute move. Once Markstrom is back, Domingue can support DiPietro in Utica. All good. And to all all those who are mad that Benning didn’t make a big deal, two words: Tyler Toffoli.
  21. Thanks. Guanajuato isn't a hotbed of hockey news. But does anyone know who backs up Mikey D?
  22. I am very far away from Vancouver and news is limited. Pardon the question but is Domingue going to report to Vancouver or to Utica? And if it is Utica, who backs up DiPietro? Thanks.
  23. Rathbone’s age and comparables are irrelevant. There are only three questions that need answers with Rathbone: 1. Is he ready to turn pro? If yes, proceed to training camp. If no, back to Harvard. 2. Is he NHL ready? If yes, make him the seventh guy and work him in gradually. If no, send him to Utica to play a ton. 3. Is he ready to start in the top six in the NHL? If yes, pair him with a veteran and let him learn. If no, probably send him to Utica with instructions that he play twenty minutes a night in all situations. We as Canucks fans have been spoiled by how quickly Bo, Boeser, and particularly Petey and Hughes have made an impact at such a young age. We can’t reasonably expect that Rathbone will have the same immediate impact. It would be great if he was able to play effectively and chip in a few goals and assists. I guess I am suggesting that if he DOESN’T make a big splash, that doesn’t mean he’s a disappointment or a failure. I think he will turn out to be a good player but it may take awhile.
  24. Anybody know why Tyler Madden wasn't dressed for Northeastern tonight?
