  1. There's no guarantee he's a star , hopefully. We're so thin on high end prospects.
  2. It may change but Tanev is our best defensemen just entering his best years as a player. I think trading him now is a bad idea. Especially not for Brisebois just because he's doing fairly well in junior.
  3. I think Taney has the skating and puck moving we're looking for. I'd keep him.
  4. This all sounds great, but let's remember that cup winners usually have an all star, near Norris quality, defensemen and at least a couple all stars in addition. This all sounds good but I see that all-star. Here's hoping it's the Fin.
  5. I can see what you mean, but hasn't Kane been a cancer for every team he's played for?
  6. Why even think of trading our best young d-man and best prospect when we're trying to develop? He's our draft and we'll sign him.
  7. Today the best teams have smart mobile D who move the puck and join the offence. We can take for some top nine forwards but the best d aren't usually found in trades. Juolevi is a good piece of the puzzle but we're not done setting up our D
  8. Build from the back, it's way harder to get a high end defence man that a top six forward. This is a great pick.
  9. True the game is getting faster, but the last time i watched the playoffs the refs put away the whistles and d-men could hack and whack at anyone who came near the crease. Chara can't skate. But he could practically be called for penalties almost every shift in the playoffs and it works for him.
  10. Watching Gaunce outplay Virtanen last night perfectly explains why Virtanen needs to go back to junior. He needs more skill and he needs to process the game more effectively. You get that from playing big minutes in every situation. Not playing sheltered minutes and running around trying to lay out players on every shift. He's got one assist in eight games and hasn't looked dangerous. That's not what I expect from my top ten draft pick. Virtanen could be good some day, he's got the toolbox, but right now all I see is size, speed. Add some skills to those elements and you have an NHL forward.
  11. Send him down and make him work on his skills. It's great to be big fast player who can through a body check, but that isn't top six material, that's a good checking line player. He was chosen 6th overall, let develop into a skilled player with physical assets.
  12. Hutton looks great, he's not going anywhere.
  13. Lucic is slow, has hands of stone. We don't need caveman hockey. What is he going to teach Virtanen? How to spear a player in the pills from behind? run a few goalies? miss open nets? If he was any good, he'd still be in Boston.
  14. Baertschi shows speed, good hands, and finish. He can set up plays and doesn't shy away from contact. He's a skill upgrade for this team and he's young. It looks like the Flames tried to us him as a bottom six type grinder and he doesn't fit that role. Then they gave up on him too soon. Let the kid play to his strengths, he'll develop a more complete game, enjoy the fact we got ourselves a good young player at a good price. He'll be stoked to play Calgary, this could be a good series.
  15. He recently turned 18 and is a top 6 forward on the Junior team. Isn't that stepping up? The kid's showing and elite set of tools, it's one tournament and he's looking good.
  16. Skating is a skill and he's the best skater in his draft year.
  17. Too soon, I still see the potential.
  18. I think Linden is great, like we all do, but is he really GM material?
  19. The more I watch the more I wonder what Tortarella is doing. It's clear to me he doesn't understand the massive toll Vancouver's air travel takes on the players. He has skated his first two lines and top four D until they've all started to drop with injuries. Everyone who has followed the Canucks knew this would happen but Tortarella decided to run his stars into the ground. What's more, the Sedin's aren't made to play in your face D. And let them kill penalties once in a while but you can't play them this much, especially with so much travel. They're targets while they're on the ice and it's no surprise one of the cheap shots caught up to them. Too many times this season the team has looked barely able to finish the 3rd. Meanwhile, the fourth line has barely hit the ice. Tortarella's answer? throw a hissy and hope that motivates them. A.V. is looking like a freakin' genius.
  20. No way that was goaltender interference. I love how there's a reply and the announcers say nothing. They go absolutely silent. And Weiss, finish your checks, what do think you a fourth liner does?
  21. Maybe you missed the news sparky, but the entire event, including Tort's antics, turns on fighting. So yeah, that IS the topic.
  22. No doubt about it, the Kings looked rattled. With almost a period in penalties the 'Nucks still out shot them. That was a great effort and I hope we took some notes on how to play the Kings. But for one bad bounce they outplayed them. I especially like how Doughty didn't want to hold onto the puck like he often does. He was getting rid of it sooner than later. Nolan wins the prize for most spineless. I think the Kings are rushing up my list of most classless team. Run the Sedins, run the goalie, then run away.
  23. Two thoughts: we may have hit the jackpot with Tanev he's still young and he just keeps getting better and better. And Kassian might just start earning top six minutes, he's starting to get it. Oh yeah, and does Mark Lee really have to cheer for the Kings so openly? OK lastly, I want to go on the fan tour to LA and Anaheim next year.
