  1. Wait and see. It's not like research and development on climate control isn't already underway. Nobody is threatened by rainbows. It's hurricanes that are the relevant context. I'm wondering why you assume that nobody wants to do anything about them? Of course we do. I believe that we will ultimately have the power to control them. You don't. Fair enough. Again, wait and see.
  2. You must be assuming that it can't be improved for the better. That assumption is false. In the very least we should be able to cancel hurricanes before they start. I don't think you'll find anyone being pro-hurricane.
  3. Would you rather have hurricanes of ever-increasing strengths rip up our coastlines, where most of our people are living? btw, we are already artificially manipulating the weather. It's been a long-term effort that has resulted in a worsening of it. Now we need to go all the way and control it for the better.
  4. Obviously it's in our best interest to control the weather. I'd say it's in our capabilities to do so. Why, you don't think we can? lol
  5. Before rising seas, increasing hurricane strength is a major economic concern. We're going to need to develop the tech to dissipate hurricanes in pretty short order. Cloud seeding with chemicals is possible today. Cloud seeding with lasers is coming. http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/24/tech/laser-cloud-seeding-mci/ And this is just the start. For now you can see the direct and forceful justification for climate change action on your nightly news.
  6. All we can do is hope. One thing is that we have to remember how young he is. In my view what we're seeing compared to his age only heightens his upside.
  7. Our club also needs more top line forwards. Actually, it would be nice if all of our forwards were actually top line forwards. This is a concern that branches beyond Virtanen of course.
  8. Question: Why are some people spending this much effort to be a douche about this particular prospect? What is there to gain, exactly? I've always wondered.
  9. That applies more to the Bartkowski signing imho.
  10. To do what? Hoist the cup?
  11. None. But this is the everyone but Virtanen thread you see. We're not sure.
  12. NYI returned Dal Colle to Oshawa. Will Virtanen make the cut in Vancouver? We will see.
  13. Whatever 'philosophy' we are to use with regards to winning in the future, it's certainly going to require more than the efforts of one player, let lone a non-elite prospect such as what was available to us in the '14 draft. People assuming that Nylander, Ritchie, Ehlers, or Virtanen is a player you can label 'franchise' and build a winning team around all need to give their heads a shake. I hope Benning's philosophy takes us in a direction where we are indeed are relying on a collection of legit star players instead of laying the blame of failure down on the feet of one prospect due to flawed overexpectations. However at this point, as it's been sooo long, I'm thinking the 2014 draft debate is perpetual for just the reason to debate and nothing more. I hope TO's great white hope does well and so does Winnipeg's and Anaheim's. Considering the rise of Johnny Fraudreau, I'd say that anything's possible these days. All these players are irrelevant to the task we have at hand however. Cheers.
  14. Those numbers are essentially meaningless.
  15. That was a sweet hit, but it's going to take more than hits to knock off the mighty, mighty Oilers.
  16. Because big font? My reason is that we should resolve other major team issues going forward, like the defense, before pressing the gas pedal on Virtanen's expectations level.
  17. Jamie Benn just won the art ross.
  18. No I think the plan involves Bärtschi. But seeing him get term while other similar RFA's aren't is interesting. At the end of the day it hopefully won't matter. I highly doubt the Canucks would have selected Rasmus Andersson anyway. And Etem for Bieksa is a pipedream.
  19. This process, as much as it has been advertised as normal, is not normal. I guess the question is how was NYR able to sign Etem to a 1yr $850k deal when he's more established than Bärtschi? Same with Beau Bennett. All three 1st rounders are in a similar position where they have to prove themselves as 23yr olds, but for some reason Bärtschi gets term? How's that? What should have been a simple signing has turned into a long drawn out process. imho Because he's a flight risk. Calgary's GM admitted this months ago. He threatened to go to europe if he wasn't traded and now he's using european league leverage to get more security. It's a good thing that he went to the Canucks as opposed to another team then, because we're willing to work with that in our current position. I've always said this was a good trade... For Bärtschi.
