I just can't think of a recent trade involving a dman as good as OEL though. McDonagh maybe?
-
Yip. Strong no for trading Hogs or Pods. Just no.
-
Agreed. I have mentioned before that Pods and Hogs are integral pieces for us in that we will need some young forwards exceeding their entry level deals moving forward. To get to the next level that is.
-
I see what your getting at. Boeser for OEL. Hogs included for cap dump LE. I don't want Jake though. Done with him. Now lose Jake, Brock, Hogs. Yikes. Sign Toffoli but I assume your keeping Jake as well?
-
No way. Not even close. Way too much to give up.
-
Too much imho. Not worth the cost for us.

Funny, OEL picks two teams and neither have a first this year. I've lowered my expectations on this trade a lot. It will come down to how badly Arizona wants OEL out, or how bad OEL wants out. I imagine OEL is salivating at joining an up and coming team like the Canucks, with Petey, Eddy, maybe Marky. In the end it may just be so much easier for JB to sign Barrie to a one year show me deal. Something Barrie is probably into considering his value is low. Plus, Barrie is a righty. The deal for OEL to Vancouver just doesn't seem possible unless Arizona bites hard on this one.
-
Yip. Not sure where the relationship between Arizona and OEL is. They may just agree to hold off for now. Maybe OEL takes a stand and demands a trade but what leverage does he have. "I won't show up to play?" Arizona says, "perfect, we don't need to pay you" lol.
-
Exactly. And would OEL waive to go to a team like the Sens? Doubt it. If the Canucks had a first this year I suspect this would be done already. The odd Demko rumor out there. Maybe Demko gets that first that could then go to Arizona. Sign Marky. Again, it's just a real complicated deal to pull off for Arizona and Vancouver.
-
I tend to agree. What Arizona is needing in trade, the Canucks don't really have. They kind of do but not really. I suspect if a deal does get done it could really be sloped in our favor. One thing though, I doubt a team exists, that OEL agrees to, that wouldn't have to send cap back. Most, if not all competitive teams are maxed out or trying to fill other needs. This may come down to Arizona just ripping the bandaid and pulling the pin on the trade with the Canucks just to move on.
-
Hmmm. That's Vrbata in the picture with him. Both Canucks some day? Lol.
-
The only way I would want a first going Arizonas way in this trade is if LE is part of it. It's worth it then.
-
I like the conservative approach mixed in with some risks that may pay off. Lots of names out there to improve the D. It needs upgrading for the team to take the next step. I would think JB has kicked tires on it all and this potential OEL deal makes the most sense. Only JB and staff know how many of the other options are even options.
-
Yip. Only if we include the 2021 first it has to be LE going their way. Even if we have to retain a million. Sutter can be trades on his own, even if it's a late round pick.
-
If the Yotes have a choice between Rathbone and OJ I'm guessing they pick Rath because of OJ's injury history. Rathbone is a heck of a prospect. A package of Jake, Rathbone and a pick is pretty good.
-
For sure. If we trade Jake I'd sign Grabner to a cheap deal. He's a breakaway machine. Hughes will find him with the pass aplenty.
-
Not me. To get over the top we need another top flight dman. A player a notch or two above Tanev. Would like Carlo or a Cernak but OEL could be the kind of gamble that could pay huge dividends. Players like him just don't come up for grabs very often. I'm sure JB is checking all these options though.
-
We can have them all. JB will get this done yet. We will lose Marky and Tanev and probably Stetcher though.
-
Acquiring OEL is a risk for sure as like any trade I suppose. I think a team does need to take a leap of faith or two or three to get over the hump. Just playing it safe won't cut it. At worst OEL ends up a mediocre, overpaid dman. At best, he could be rejuvenated on an actual up and coming team. I'm betting on the latter. I've always really, really like OEL's smooth skating game. He's even somewhat physical with a great shot. I could easily see him the type that finds another level come playoffs. I was disappointed he re-signed in the desert his UFA year hoping he would come here instead. The potential upside, if he can be acquired at a bit of a discount, is definitely there imho.
-
Ya. I think if we had our picks this year the OEL deal would be done. No regrets, love JT Miller and hopefully Toffoli re-signs.
-
I remember when they hired wonder boy Chyka and he was the toast of the draft his first year. I think that's the year they took on Datsyuk's contract. I remember hating on the guy and thinking this won't end well. Looks like I was right on that one. Next up for failed wonder boys, Dubas.

[Signing] Golden Knights re-sign Robin Lehner
rekker replied to Mackcanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Because it's an unfair competitive advantage but the advantage goes to teams-markets that the NHL is trying to grow so they look the other way. If the competitive advantage was swayed towards an eased tax situation in Canada you could bet it would be looked at. What can the NHL do? Easy. You find the median for the percentage of income paid to taxes throughout the leugue. Once you have that whatever your teams advantage, say 15 percent no state tax advantage, gets taken off your max cap allowance. -

The no tax states are in southern markets where they are trying to grow the game. It's an unfair advantage imho. Lehner's contract is less because of it. Several contracts in Tampa same thing. NHL could care less if these teams have an advantage signing players. But if these teams were Canadian, and winning, my guess it would be different. Final four this year had three teams in tax friendly states. -

Yip. What if the tax breaks equaled lower AAV for all the Canadian teams vs where it mostly benefits the southern markets now. Think this would fly? I think not. -
Not a chance.
