Teams dont trade picks for players that cant stay healthy for a month and make 3.5 to 4.5 a year. They aren't even worth picks. Even if you could get a sixth or seventh why bother. Better off to see if Baer can be healthy again. Maybe Sutter gets healthy and is worth something at the deadline with money retained. Fact is similar players are to be had on the waiver wires for free. They become an issue to dump only if kids are knocking at the door to take their jobs or cap restraints hit the team. Anyways, to be discussed another time. Got a game seven to watch. Enjoy the game.
Nah. Granny is a dime a dozen player who teams mostly have or is easy enough to sign or find a youthful replacement. Baer is a legit top six and I'm a big fan but with his injury history he has no value. Sutter is a favourite of mine as well and I agree he is a player you need to have to win. But with his injury history he is worth nothing as well. Maybe these guys are throw ins with deals but no one is offering value for these guys. Canucks are best off keeping them to see if they can stay healthy and maybe increase their trade values. As it stands though I believe they have little to no value.
Hope to see the Blues hoist the cup tonight and O'Reilly win the Conn Smythe. He has really won me over this year. Not a pretty skater, not a sniper, just a guy that guts it out shift after shift, game after game. Bo reminds me of him. Go Blues.
What value can you put on Sutter, Granny, Baer? With injuries, inconsistencies, contracts, I think they are worth next to nothing to be painfully honest.
I can agree if a suitable replacement is found but what options are there? Especially an option costing zero assets? One they wont need to expansion draft protect? Assuming they can structure Eddys new contract as such.
For sure but I would argue we Canucks have done a better job rebuilding at all positions. It's slow, but without the benefit of number one and top three picks I think JB has built up way more organizational depth.
This. The pressure is on Holland for sure. I give McD two more seasons. Maybe one. If things are status quo then the murmurs of him wanting out will start. Hypothetically, if this was to happen would it necessarily be a bad thing for the Oilers? The return would be huge and may just kick start them properly. It may be a good thing for them to actually look at what kind of depth they could build from that one trade.
I agree that Ghost doesn't fill an immediate need but I would consider him an upgrade over Hutton. If there was a deal on the table involving Ghost and Hutton I would look into it. But ya, we need a Parayko type addition over a Ghost addition if Hutton is still here.
Sticking point may well be the fourth year. Eddy probably wanting that and JB not sure about it. I find it hard to believe another team, let alone a city Eddy wants to go, will offer four years.
While I agree it would be ideal to get younger and stronger on D a replacement for Eddy is not easy, and very costly to source. As others have mentioned he's a very reliable top four dman. I suspect Hughes will at some point be moved into that number one PP spot. This may help eliminate some of the negativity surrounding Eddy. It would certainly be nice to have a more mobile, more accurate, quicker passer manning the point on the number one PP. As long as they dont need to protect Eddy in the expansion draft I'm all for signing him. His veteran presence will also help our youngsters along.
I wonder if Larsson, top 4 righty, Swede, UFA next year if not re signed could be an option July. Would love to sign him over Gardiner or Meyers this year.
