I just got the shivers. Congrats young man. Props to JB and staff. Would of been so less controversial to take Glass. Can we trust in the scouting staff already?
-
I hear you. Is what it is. Plays responsible but has lost his offensive touch. I still think he will find that touch again with the right young line mates. Better than the Lucic contract that's for sure.
-
Not sure if it's been mentioned. I just love how when Jake hits someone against the boards the glass shakes and rattles. Then once hit the opponents always seem to look for him. Like a "Frkk. I felt that look"

I think the Pettersson is to slight to make the jump is overblown. But I think the jump to the small ice isn't talked about enough. Yes he looked ok in the world juniors. The closing speed of the NHL and tight corners and half walls will be a big jump for him. He didn't even play junior here in North America. We should all temper our expectations of EP making the leap next year. My guess is he goes up and down between The NHL and AHL.
-
EP is smart. Smarts go a long ways to competing effectively. I don't want to discuss player for player, size vs skill as it is somewhat pointless. I assume we both agree you need a mix to be successful. E.g. I like Stetcher and I like Guds. Both righties. But we won't win a series dressing six Stetchers only. Or six Guds only. EP will get his chance in preseason. If he can handle it he stays. He gets a few games regular season. If he can handle it he stays. His biggest adjustment will be the small ice. As any European. He played well at World Juniors. But small ice NHL is a different animal. I look forward to seeing his progress next year.

Oh baby don't even get me started. I have a tough time discussing what happened in 2011 and the reffing. It puts me in a bad place. I will agree with you and leave it at that.
-
Ya. Will be cheering on the Jets for sure. Chara almost single handedly shut down the twins in 2011 though. Especially on their home ice where they could match lines better.
-
And added to that flubbed outlet pass is the puck shot back into your zone. Compounding with more ozone time for the opposition. Often with you as a dman who just made a nice pass now stuck on the ice tired.
-
Funny. Been around kids for years. Some things are just god given or god not giveth. You can improve of course. But no matter how hard you work you can't manufacture what has been gifted to some players from the hockey gods. Lol.

I know. I have the same hands! Lol.

Yes. I want Sikura as well.

I agree its a team thing. But if Point and Kopitar battle it out ten times in a corner Kopitar will win more than five of them. And also have less chance of injury which bodes well in a seven game series. I'm not totally disagreeing with you though as Point may win more of the open ice battles. But for playoffs size is an asset. TB just picked up a very solid McDonough with good size. If Hedman equals PK or Keith in skill I would take Hedman in a series all day long. Chara and his wing span are still killing it. It's kind of a tough thing to discuss because it does, as you said, depend on team dynamics. I am very interested to see how Winnipeg does this year. They are built a little more towards old school with more size than most with lots of skill still. Will be interesting too see how they pan out. Then you see a player like Leipsic come along and even though he's small he is a tornado to play against. But does he fair better in a seven game series than say a Josh Anderson? Could discuss it all day is suppose. I do know that everything in sports and hockey is reciprocal. Always is. Skill and speed is the name of the game today till a big team comes along and wins a few cups. Size will come around at some point and factor more into the equation again. Its always revolving.
-
I get you. But still. All things being equal. All things. Size will tip the scales. It's still a physical game. Especially if your goal is to win a seven game series times four.
-
I miss Sbisa. His last year here he was really starting to put it together. He's tough. I would of like to see more of Holm. But Holm is hardly irreplaceable through scouting euro leagues or the NCAA.

Thought about that after my top six comment. Bear is a very skilled and smart hockey player. He is decevingly good at his board battles. Not in a physical way but with leverage, angles and stick work. Seems third lines are becoming less of a checking line and more of a hybrid line that can score more often. Bear could maybe fill that role.
-
I hear you. They both skirt that top six or nothing type player. Neither will be checkers. I'm not ready to give up on either yet. Bear has it when he wants it. He just has too many games where he is perimeter. It seems he is getting more consistant though. Goldy needs confidence. You can see when he scores how he can become more dominant. He has ways to go defensively but has gotten better. Tough to say where they fit in future plans. Ultimately they get pushed out of their jobs by better players. That's the sign of a deep team.
-
Goldy. Forgot to quote you. But since on the subject. If we sign Kane this summer perhaps flipping Bear for a young dman would also be an option.
-
Good offensive instincts for sure. Thought he would be quicker though.
-
He may be a good option to develop with the team. Maybe he gets valuable enough to flip for a young dman.
-
True enough. The way he played in the Beanpot. You may be onto something!
-
Good job team USA. NHL Network talking heads saying maybe they should of had more NCAA players. Speed and skill. It was bewildering why the leaft Gaudette off that roster. They would of been better with him in the line up that's for sure.
-
Dhaliwal. Good work. Sounds like there is still work to do. By the sounds of it he is receiving some good coaching. OJ is following a normal development progression. Sure, would be nice to have been quicker like Serg or Mcavoy but it isn't. Our society is all about instant gratification. Sometimes it takes time to build quality. I'm proud of the organization for not rushing the kid. It will happen when OJ is ready.

Was thinking the same thing. The last three years between junior, memorial cup playoffs, prospect camps, draft camps and combines, Young Stars, World Juniors. He has probably played as much upper end hockey as possible in those three years.

Good on you for actually viewing some recent game action. More than many of us can say.
